  • Well made and works great
I purchased this sprayer versus the other similary Chapin pro model that is about 5 dollars less. This model is built much better and has a self cleaning pump. For the extra 5 dollars you get a better pump action, metal handle that folds out of the way, and a stainless steel wand. The top opening is also wider and I believe it has an extra filter system. I filled it with water right out of the box and there was zero leaks. Operated perfectly and the pumping action is fairly easy and provides plenty of spraying power. I sprayed about 10 gallons of solution with zero problems. This u n it also has a back cushion as well as the thick padded shoulder straps. The only thing I noticed is that it didn't come with the lumbar support. The 6-8182 back strap if bought separately comes with the lumbar support. I didn't find it an issue but I may call Chapin and get the scoop on why it wasn't included. Maybe it's not needed. Anyway great sprayer and should last forever. Oh yea, the other model has a pressure meter on the wand, this one doesnt. But who needs to know the pressure coming out of the wand? It would fluctuate so often I don't see it being useful. Just pump it a few times and spray till you need to pump again....it's a no brainer. ... show more

  • Chapin 4 gallon backpack sprayer
What can I say about the Chapin backpack sprayer other than its another great product by Chapin. Very easy to assemble, comfortable to wear, easily adjustable straps. I like the simplicity as well as the durability in the creation of this product. As with any product there is usually 1 thing keeping it from being perfect, and that is the gradient markings are on the back of the sprayer hidden behind the soft back pad. It would be great if the level marking were on the side to make it easier to read. I sprayed 2 gallons on my weeds and it lasted quite a while so in my opinion the spray head is really efficient. It does come equipped with another spray tip and an allen wrench. ... show more

  • DON'T DO IT!!!!!!
I received the sprayer and put it together. I placed it on my garage workbench so as to make the straps easier to get into, and started filling it with Round Up herbicide. As I finished pouring the 1+ gallons into the container, I heard what sounded like a mini waterfall. I looked at the pump area and Round Up was pouring out of the seal that connects the pump to the bucket. I quickly placed the sprayer into an oil drain pan on the floor and surveyed the spill; Round Up poison made a good sized pool on my butcher block work bench and soaked several things, including paperwork. It was also on the garage floor and on me. The O-ring failure was not evident at a glance, and was missed when I looked everything over prior to filling the tank. Apparently the large diameter O-ring connection between the tank and pump had separated beneath the band clamp that holds it all together. I tried reassembling everything, but the surfaces would not square to one another and I couldn't get the plastic band clamp to properly seat the two sides together. I pulled the pump, applied some Vaseline to the O-ring and tried to re-mate the two assemblies. I could get it mostly together but couldn't flush the two surfaces up to one another enough to allow the cheesy plastic band clamp to hold everything together. I gave up. An hour later I was done cleaning up the hazardous spill. Hopefully I won't get sick from poison exposure - have you ever read the warnings on a jug of Round Up? Thanks for a heck of a Saturday morning, Chapin. One more thing - as I re-boxed the sprayer for return, I noticed the tape area on the Chapin box flaps had a couple layers of different tapes evident. Did Amazon take this sprayer in as a return, re-tape the box and send it back out again? Bottom line: STAY AWAY from this sprayer. I went down to a local lawn mower / tractor dealer and picked up the Stihl equivalent to the Chapin. It was a few bucks more, but the difference in quality was night and day. ... show more

  • 4 Gallons of Great
Yeah, this thing works like a champ. 4 gallons makes for easy work around my yard. The wide mouth opening makes chemical mixing easy and the extra large handle on the 6" cap makes spinning the top off easy. I like that the pump handle that can be easily rotated up and out of the way for storage and back into place for work. The use of stainless steel is very appreciated. No leaks -- no complaints -- it just works. ... show more

  • Not great
I have applied a lot of herbicide in my life, and I was underwhelmed by this sprayer. I had constant slight leak problems and spent hours trying to fix it but could not. Also, the OEM straps are just plain torture. If you buy this sprayer, contact the manufacturer to find the beefier straps that they sell ($40/ unit). I was really happy with the spraying pressure I could achieve with this sprayer, but the slight leak was a dealbreaker. This was my first and last Chapin product. I must say though that one of my colleagues swears by this brand, so maybe I got a lemon. I've used a bunch of Solo sprayers and they never leaked on me. next time... ... show more

  • QC and design flaws
First, I am biased after receiving one sprayer that was missing key parts like the wand and nozzles. The second one shipped was clearly used, but had all the parts. I reassembled the pieces that were put together wrong and cleaned out the spray residue, and it seemed okay. However, upon use under pressure, it drips from a side seam. The uncomfortable harness is way too narrow and cuts into my shoulders when the tank is full. The markings to see the fill level are hidden behind the back pad instead of on the side of the tank. The sprayer does spray okay, but not with much force. I won't be able to spray as high in trees as with my small hand-held sprayer. I will try to epoxy the seam to see if that helps the sprayer hold pressure better. Overall, between the design and quality control issues and the fact that I received two sprayers that looked to have been previously returned, I can't recommend this sprayer. ... show more

  • More comfortable than our very old back pack
More comfortable than our old sprayer, nozzle has better adjustment and longer. The feature of a filter is great as our old one would get plugged up with an occasional bug or piece of grass. The lid is easier to grip than our old one as well and the neck sticks up instead of being recessed.
