The CHANNELLOCK® 927 8" Retaining Ring Pliers easily convert from working with external to internal snap rings with a simple switch of a tab. The heavy duty return spring reduces hand fatigue and provides increased accuracy when applying or removing snap rings. CHANNELLOCK® Retaining Ring Pliers are 100% made in USA and include 5 pairs of interchangeable tips. From the Manufacturer The Channellock 927 - 8-Inch Retaining Ring Plier - has a capacity of 1/4-Inch to 2-Inch external, and 3/8-Inch to 2-Inch internal. It includes tips: .036, .047, .070 straight. .036, .047 90°. This 8-Inch Retaining Ring Plier converts from internal to external rings with a simple switch of the red tab and has a heavy duty return spring. It is heat treated for longer life. This is a good, quality tool and is a solid value for the price. The change over mechanism (inside to ouside) works well, and I like having the convenience of just shifting a lever rather than R&R'ing a pivot. The pins are solid and tough and I can't see how they're being distorted if they're being used on an free (not rusted or corroded) clip with the correct sized holes. If that's the case, the tool is being abused. Small metal pins aren't intended to bust loose stuck clips. If you don't want to use the myriad of other techniques to free them and choose to sacrifice the pins, that's your choice, but don't blame the tips for bending. I'm using them for motorcycle and automotive work, so mostly piston circlips, transmission shafts, and front forks. They were perfect for removing the bearing retaining clips on a Subaru Forester's wheel bearings, too. The extra pins come in a small plastic/vinyl bag. Like any small part, they're easily lost if you have a junk drawer for a tool box. If you have even basic organization in your box, it's not a problem. I am glad the manufacturer isn't including a fancy box, and charging for it. I'm much happier using my own system and pocketing the extra cash. My system is pretty basic, but works well. I have a small (2x2x2 inch, roughly) plastic box with a cheap magnet glued in as the floor of it. The snap ring pliers rest in the drawer with odd pliers (safety wire tools, etc.) with the box between the handles. The box is held loosely in place through the thin drawer liner, and keeps all the pins in place. You can get the same effect with a magnet hot glued to the included bag, or just tossed inside a ziploc. ... show more

Channellock was once an indestructable brand but I've noticed lately that the quality of their tools, especially the hardening, seems to have slipped. IDK if they are using inferior steel or something. These pliers are robust and work well but the tips are not great. I am a tradesperson and use my tools daily. Within a week I had bent or broken 2 of the accompanying tips for this while using it on c-clips (its intended purpose). That's a huge disappointment. Yes, you can buy more tips, but really Channellock? It takes a lifetime to build a solid reputation and you have one but keep this up and here's another professional that is switching to one of the European brands. Too bad. Get yourselves together and make the tools you used to make. ... show more
