This is a good, quality tool and is a solid value for the price. The change over mechanism (inside to ouside) works well, and I like having the convenience of just shifting a lever rather than R&R'ing a pivot. The pins are solid and tough and I can't see how they're being distorted if they're being used on an free (not rusted or corroded) clip with the correct sized holes. If that's the case, the tool is being abused. Small metal pins aren't intended to bust loose stuck clips. If you don't want to use the myriad of other techniques to free them and choose to sacrifice the pins, that's your choice, but don't blame the tips for bending. I'm using them for motorcycle and automotive work, so mostly piston circlips, transmission shafts, and front forks. They were perfect for removing the bearing retaining clips on a Subaru Forester's wheel bearings, too. The extra pins come in a small plastic/vinyl bag. Like any small part, they're easily lost if you have a junk drawer for a tool box. If you have even basic organization in your box, it's not a problem. I am glad the manufacturer isn't including a fancy box, and charging for it. I'm much happier using my own system and pocketing the extra cash. My system is pretty basic, but works well. I have a small (2x2x2 inch, roughly) plastic box with a cheap magnet glued in as the floor of it. The snap ring pliers rest in the drawer with odd pliers (safety wire tools, etc.) with the box between the handles. The box is held loosely in place through the thin drawer liner, and keeps all the pins in place. You can get the same effect with a magnet hot glued to the included bag, or just tossed inside a ziploc. ... show more

I've had a chance to use these several times now and I'm really impressed. These are WAYYYYY better than the versions where you are replacing the jaws, flipping them around and remembering which pins to use for internal or external snap rings. These are super sturdy, made in the USA, have replaceable tips in various sizes for a perfect fit, and have a super handy lever that switches them from internal to external in an instant. They have been 100% reliable and have made several projects an absolute breeze, from working on industrial skid steers, to replacing the internals of a broken ratchet, and I even pressed them into service to help remove a stubborn circlip. I have another pair of snap ring pliers but I can't imagine every going back to them after using these. These are just so much better. ... show more

So bottom line, yes this is a good pair of SNP's. They arrived in good shape and did what I needed them to do. I will add, that the alignment for the tips is a little off. As shown in some other pics from buyers, they don't always align properly, and in my case the minimum spacing of the tips when closed was almost too large to even be useful for the snap ring I was trying to remove. The internal/external switch is convenient and seems to work well, and is much easier that having to disassemble the set and flip them, so the convenience is nice. I'm worried about the rigidity of the set screws long-term, and how easy it will be to get replacement tips that fit properly down the road, but for now this set is exactly what I need. Just for reference, I originally bought these to remove a fan blade on a Cub Cadet XT2 riding mower, which is in about the most inconvenient location imaginable.. ... show more

In the photo is a 6 mm snap ring. If anyone has ever tried to remove and install a ring of that size (SMALL) knows that it will most likely be found by the vacuum after it flys off into the room somewhere. This is a GREAT snap ring plier on many levels. First it comes with several different tip sizes and also has straight and 90 degree tips as well. They can be swapped out easily with the enclosed Allen wrench, all of them fit into a little pouch to keep them together. The spring tension is just right, low enough to provide feedback when they engage to ring. A flip of the toggle changes from inside to outside rings easily. For inside rings you have about an 1.25” reach and they will go that far up to .75” in diameter. The grips are plasticoated and easy to keep control of. Best thing other than they work great? They are made in the USA. I own several snap ring pliers, I bought these to replace bearings on my bandsaw blade guides. My other ring pliers require you to change the handles for inside or outside and they have fixed diameter tips. As you can tell I’m super pleased with this tool. It’s worth every penny and it’s not a whole lot of penny’s. ... show more

I had bought 2 other less expensive snap ring plier sets trying to fix the wheel on my Honda mower, but the tips were too big and the pliers were too flimsy to grab and remove the ring. I stopped messing around with junk and bought these Channellocks, and had the ring off in 5 seconds. A quality tool, I like the changeover from internal to external with the slider switch. Very clever! I found the included spring that keeps the tool open to be a bit much, but it’s easily removable if you want. Much better than the other type of ring tool where you need to disassemble the tool and change the fulcrum. Not a tool I’d use all the time, but when you need to remove/install those rings, it helps so much to use the right tool for the job at hand.
