Description
The STINGER CH38-2 Cap Hammer gives contractors an economical, non-pneumatic way to cap staple housewrap, underlayment, and rolled insulation. The 2017 Pro Tool Innovation Award-winning tool holds 168 1" plastic collated caps and 168 3/8" crown staples and weighs only 2.6 pounds reducing arm fatigue. To use the tool, hold on to the comfortable grip, pull the trigger to feed the next collated cap, then strike the cap staple in place. The CH38-2 is designed for exclusive use with STINGER 3/8" StaplePac (sold separately) that contains 1" plastic collated caps, and 3/8" A-11 20 gauge crown staples.

This tool worked very well. I was hesitant to buy it based upon the negative reviews. I found it easy to use and effective for stapling Tyvek to new construction walls. It is a little confusing to set up the first time. Here are some tips 1) The staples load from the back of the tool. You have to open the hinged cover for the green discs to find the staple tray. Once found, it is just like any other staple tool. 2) To open the hinged cover, Pinch the green side of the cover, making a C with your thumb and index finger, at the middle of the circle. Then pull up gently. There are simple plastic tabs that hold it closed. Sqeezing the cover pinches the tabs in so they release. 3) Place the roll of green discs temporarily in the folded out green cover while threading the green discs into the bottom of the stapler. The green discs should come off of the TOP of the roll. Once threaded, move the roll into the black half of the tool and then close the green cover. 4) Once you get the green discs partially threaded into the correct opening, you can get at them through slots in the bottom of the tool. Use a spare nail or screw driver to advance the green discs until one is completely out of the end of the tool. Using the tool is simple. Hit the tool like a Hammer against the Tyvek. The staple penetrates the green disc. The green disc tears away from the roll. There is no cutter necessary or provided. The weak plastic ties between discs simply break. After striking the tool, pull the trigger one time to advance the next green disc. Sometimes it doesn't feed out correctly, and pulling the trigger multiple times still won't advance the disc. It is not a big deal. Turn the tool over and using your finger nail through the slots in the bottom, advance the green disc. My experience was probably about 25 good feeds, and then one mis-feed. Simply advance it manually and it continues to work fine.

Worked great- hard to find tacks but it held up incredibly well- we built our dream off grid cabin with this, high winds and many of these held up great! This model has the optional trigger so we used it for insulation and radiant barrier tacking when the nylons tabs werent needed.

I read all the previous reviews complaining about this tool and I am sure those people just didn't understand it's quirks. I used the Stinger and I think it works pretty well, but I also think all the bad reviews from people who just couldn't figure out. The green disks have to be exactly as shown in the photo as shown to work, otherwise the staple doesn't go deep enough and misses the center of the disk, and often the whole thing won't even stick. Though you can't see it in pictures, there is a trigger you must pull to forward the next green disk. When you pull the trigger, it forwards the green disk all the way, sometimes when you release it, it pulls the green disk back out of alignment. So if you just take the 1/2 second necessary before each "whack", to insure it's in the right place, it will work perfectly almost every time. You can shift the disk back and forth a little bit easily, however once a disk is out too far, you have to forward to the next (you can't go back). The only other problem I encountered is that sometimes it doesn't cut it off cleanly as the gap between the cutting blade is slightly too wide, this for me happened perhaps 1 in 10 times, it was easily remedied just by twisting the Stinger and the thin connecting pieces of plastic will break. It is for this reason I am giving it 4 stars. The bottom line is if you understand these "tricks" about the disk alignment and the cutting blade, this is a very useful tool, the plastic disk covers the holes made by the staple in the Tyvek to keep the water out and helps keep the holes from enlarging if the Tyvek gets pulled a bit. I would buy it again and I would recommend it to anyone. You will lose a few green disks as the blade doesn't cut as well as it should, but it's no big deal, given both the convenience, speed, and added protection the tool buys you. It's not perfect but it's far better than just a stapler or nail.

A Great Product that Works Well!

I, too, was puzzled by the negative reviews. Sure, it takes a little patience to feed the caps, but not really that hard. There is a clear stop where the cap goes under the staple. I had very little problem centering the caps and a quick hard blow drives the staple and detaches the cap. The lever does a great job of advancing the cap and a flick of the thumb will loosen any that do not clear the cutter. I found it much easier to use and less of a strain than most pneumatic nailers, including my air staple gun. I also don't understand how it would be hard to hold, as the cap cover fits right in the palm of the hand. This tool made it easy to install synthetic roof underlayment and I look forward to using it when I install my Tyvek house wrap. I guess I could give it 4 stars because of some of the loading issues and occasional misfeeds, but because of the uniqueness of this tool and my intention to counteract some of the overly negative critiques, I stand by 5 stars,

I read all the negative reviews and was hesitant to buy this, but there's really not a lot of other options, so I went ahead and gave it a shot. I listened to the other reviewer that said to get this one instead of the autofeed version, and I am so glad I did. It is incredibly easy to figure out how to use, right out of the box. The caps are easy to advance to exactly where you want them to be with the pull trigger, and you just hit it against the wall and it staples perfectly nearly every time. I did not have any problems whatsoever, and feeding the caps is very easy with the trigger. Definitely worth the price in the time you'll save by using it.

Very easy to use.

After buying this product I was a little reserve on it from all of the negative comments. After following the video instructions to load the staples and disks, with a little bit of practice, I was able to weather proof one side of a house in 15 minutes by myself. The product works great and I don't know why other people gave this product poor ratings. Once you get into the rhythm reloading the Stinger becomes your only slow point. After installing the vapor barrier on the house, the weather went from sunny and hot to wind and rain. The vapor barrier didn't move or leak at all. Excellent products from National. Recommend it to everyone putting on vapor barriers and roofing.

I am a licensed contractor and when I saw this stinger stapler I got excited. This product seems like a wonderful invention. But to be totally honest it's down right terrible. Not worth the money or time it takes to make it work. If the stapler does not cut the button cap for some reason it will pull the roll of unused caps out until you notice it. Then you must cut the unused caps off with a knife and either keep them for later use or throw them away. It will not use the last cap out of every roll and it must be hand fed to get the roll started. If the stapler does not strike perfectly square your cap will not cut and then it becomes a hasle. This product is HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Not ready for mass production. They need to go back to the drawing board and figure out a better design for the cap dispenser.
