The STINGER CH38-2 Cap Hammer gives contractors an economical, non-pneumatic way to cap staple housewrap, underlayment, and rolled insulation. The 2017 Pro Tool Innovation Award-winning tool holds 168 1" plastic collated caps and 168 3/8" crown staples and weighs only 2.6 pounds reducing arm fatigue. To use the tool, hold on to the comfortable grip, pull the trigger to feed the next collated cap, then strike the cap staple in place. The CH38-2 is designed for exclusive use with STINGER 3/8" StaplePac (sold separately) that contains 1" plastic collated caps, and 3/8" A-11 20 gauge crown staples.

This tool worked very well. I was hesitant to buy it based upon the negative reviews. I found it easy to use and effective for stapling Tyvek to new construction walls. It is a little confusing to set up the first time. Here are some tips 1) The staples load from the back of the tool. You have to open the hinged cover for the green discs to find the staple tray. Once found, it is just like any other staple tool. 2) To open the hinged cover, Pinch the green side of the cover, making a C with your thumb and index finger, at the middle of the circle. Then pull up gently. There are simple plastic tabs that hold it closed. Sqeezing the cover pinches the tabs in so they release. 3) Place the roll of green discs temporarily in the folded out green cover while threading the green discs into the bottom of the stapler. The green discs should come off of the TOP of the roll. Once threaded, move the roll into the black half of the tool and then close the green cover. 4) Once you get the green discs partially threaded into the correct opening, you can get at them through slots in the bottom of the tool. Use a spare nail or screw driver to advance the green discs until one is completely out of the end of the tool. Using the tool is simple. Hit the tool like a Hammer against the Tyvek. The staple penetrates the green disc. The green disc tears away from the roll. There is no cutter necessary or provided. The weak plastic ties between discs simply break. After striking the tool, pull the trigger one time to advance the next green disc. Sometimes it doesn't feed out correctly, and pulling the trigger multiple times still won't advance the disc. It is not a big deal. Turn the tool over and using your finger nail through the slots in the bottom, advance the green disc. My experience was probably about 25 good feeds, and then one mis-feed. Simply advance it manually and it continues to work fine.

I, too, was puzzled by the negative reviews. Sure, it takes a little patience to feed the caps, but not really that hard. There is a clear stop where the cap goes under the staple. I had very little problem centering the caps and a quick hard blow drives the staple and detaches the cap. The lever does a great job of advancing the cap and a flick of the thumb will loosen any that do not clear the cutter. I found it much easier to use and less of a strain than most pneumatic nailers, including my air staple gun. I also don't understand how it would be hard to hold, as the cap cover fits right in the palm of the hand. This tool made it easy to install synthetic roof underlayment and I look forward to using it when I install my Tyvek house wrap. I guess I could give it 4 stars because of some of the loading issues and occasional misfeeds, but because of the uniqueness of this tool and my intention to counteract some of the overly negative critiques, I stand by 5 stars,

Pretty good tool. To load, squeeze the market areas in the circular box at the back, and hinge open at the rear. Push up the metal stapler latch until it pops open with its spring. Pull out altogether and load two staple stripe, reinsert the staple push, and push against the spring and push the latch down until it latches securely. Then remove tape around the cap spool and place in the open lid first, so the caps feed from the top and just under the stapler metal. Push the caps through until there is resistance and try pulling the trigger to feed them through until the first cap is under the staple opening. Then move the roll from the lid to the main case, and close the lid fully by squeezing the same open marks. Drawbacks: 1) the tool needs enough clearance to swing and hit like a hammer in order to staple properly. 2) You need to hit so that the tool is almost parallel to the work surface, otherwise it may not cut through the plastic threads that join the caps. If it doesn't cut through the threads due to the angle, you may have to grab the next cap at the stapler to stop it pulling out several caps as you withdraw the tool from the work area. Then pull hard and the threads should snap. If you pull out extra caps, you can't back them in again due to the trigger mechanism, so they are wasted.

Don't waste your money. Buy a regular hammer stapler and be done with it. Don't worry about staple holes. How many holes do you make when you install your siding anyway? I have now gone through 2 of these. The first one wouldn't put caps out right and the second stop stapling after about 200 staples. Complete junk and I can't return the second one as I didn't use it until after the return window closed

It works well if you are stapling *down*. However, I needed to staple radiant barrier *UP* to angled roof joists in a knee wall, and, without gravity going in the same direction of the staple, I had a really hard time getting staples to stick, and then only barely, and had to hammer them the rest of the way in. I thought this tool would be better than staple gun for getting into some of the narrow angles, but if you can't get a decent swing radius, and if it's not down... It doesn't work very well.
