My battery operated stud finder’s battery died and I didn’t have a 9 volt on hand so I borrowed one of these from a neighbor. I was immediately surprised with how strong the magnets are in this and how easy it was to find the studs in the walls. Literally sticks to the wall without holding it. You need to loosely hold the stud finder as you go slowly over the wall and you will feel it pull. When it finds a mail it will stick to the point you don’t have to hold it. Highly recommend

Much, much less frustrating to use than the "higher tech" stud locators. I hung ceiling racks in my garage using these, and didn't drill one single hole that didn't hit wood. I can't say the same about other products I've used.

    • Yes they works when using it right
It successfully finds the nails which if you check and find multiple nails in a line you have a stud. Make sure you don’t go for just one find because you don’t know if it’s a cross board or where the middle of the board actually is. It works better then any stud finer we’ve ever used but you still have to do the follow up. I’ve seen people do the one and done method that if you’re lucky is ok but if you’re not could be disastrous. I leave it in the closet on a nail when not in use, this helps me locate it and keeps my husband from loosing it. Out of a package of two he’s already lost one the second one is staying in the closet until I need it, it’s safer this way. Love it!! ... show more

    • Why did I ever waste money on electronic stud finders?
I've had stud finders before that supposedly would locate studs electronically. They all were problematic. They would require multiple attempts over many areas to get a pattern of hits before I would see a pattern that lined up vertically. Could a stud finder this simple really do the trick? YES! Just glide it across the drywall over several areas and suddenly it will latch magnetically to one of the drywall screws. Do the same with another above or below and it will do the same. Just mark the spots, draw a line, and you have the exact location of the stud. ... show more
