The XLS 15s has a serious punch! It's sound quality and response is excellent and will only get better as I get some more listening time on it. From deep explosions originating from native 7.1 Xbox 1 games to the deep driving bass of classic country tunes to aggressive bass of metal and rock music and literally everything in between. I've been thoroughly impressed by its performance. The enclosure is well built and ported on the bottom as all other Vega's. "Update" after seeing a few reviews about on board amplifier failures, I did a little investigating and discovered that under heavy listening the heat sink would reach in excess of 120* F, leading me to draw the conclusion of a little added cooling capacity is in order. I added a fan and temp controller and now don't see over 85* F under the same listening conditions. ... show more

    • GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!!
The media could not be loaded. This is a beautiful edition to my XLS Series collection!!! I just received this product yesterday. I currently have a JBL 1000W POWERED SUB 10" and that 10" SLAMZ!!! It also is a front fireing sub, but ported threw the front and not the rear like the XLS- 15S, I have it hooked up to a HARMAN KARDON 5.1 THIS RECEIVER IS A BEAST!!!!! I GOT 5, YES THAT'S RIGHT (5) 15"SUBZ IN MY LIVING ROOM. My girlfriend of 14yrs is not crazy about them but they are my babies!!! My system is so loud that my neighbors windows on their house vibrates. Lol I'm 50ft from them as well. Overall this powered 15 is BEAUTIFUL AND IS VERY LOUD!!!! ... show more

I already had 7.1 with the Cerwin-Vega INT-118s V2 Subwoofer powered by a 500 W Carver amplifier and a Yamaha A/V receiver, but I felt like this would compliment that well. It did! The 18" subwoofer handles the bottom 2 octaves like nothing I've ever heard before and this one fills in the mid bass, without getting muddy. I tweaked the A/V receiver's bass crossover to the highest frequency and adjusted the volume to each of the subs to balance out the overall bass, which also freed up the other 7 speakers to handle louder volumes with less stress in the low end. To my ears, this is perfection. When watching movies the sound is much more life-like. When listening to music the foundation is there, without being over-powering or distorted. ... show more

The sub is big and heavy. Its not the clearest sound I've ever heard but it is big physically and it puts out big bass. Its about what I expected. Great for loud music in a bigger room in a house. It would be great for a big party house. I wouldn't want it for a quality sounding home theater system.

Failed after two weeks. Moderate listening level, infrequent use. Have had many Cerwin Vegas over the years. First failure. Dissappointing, but hope the manufacturer or dealer will make it right. Interestingly, amazon states a return cannot be processed as this is considered hazardous material. That could be humorous for multiple reasons... ... show more

    • Very high performance
I installed this unit in a customers house that has an open floor plan and 16 ft ceilings..about 800 square feet. I placed it in the only closed corner in the room and connected it to the entry level Denon 200 receiver and some Klipsh Quintet surrounds and they were shocked at the sound of this very inexpensive set up. The total cost was including labor was $1650.00 and that includes labor wire molding and surge protectors along with 1 fiber optic cable. I would have charged $1000.00 more for this set up but I have an account with them doing GPS tracking devices so I kept the price low. Anyway this subwoofer does what it's supposed to do...I hooked it up in my house to make sure it was working properly before lugging over to their house. My room is also open floor plan but with standard ceiling height of 9 ft but still around 600 square feet. I did a sine swept from 20 to 20,000 hz and at certain lower frequencies I thought my house was going to cave in. The 12 inch version is more than enough for most homes but you can spend a little more and get the 15 if you want more low end. However the 15 put out so much bass that if your room is to small you may experience cancellations because of the low frequency waves hitting a wall and causing phase problems. Your going to have to spend some big money on a sub to get better bass performance ...even then you might end up taking that expensive subwoofer back...Unless your living in a mansion with a 3000sf home theater you can't go wrong with this unit ... show more
