I prefer wooden toilet seats. I like the feel, the rigidness, and so on. However, the particleboard "molded" seats common today are not very strong. We have a few larger friends, and they have cracked our wooden seats more than once. It was time to look for something else. Solid wood seats are heavy on the wood-grain, which really doesn't go with our decor. So I took a chance on one of these. It feels like plastic to the touch, but it doesn't flex like plastic. While not 100% up there with wood, the lack of flex really turns out to be the most important part to me, so it's okay. If it turns out to be more durable, it will have been worth the tradeoff. Yeah, I've seen the video where a car runs over the seat, but I've also seen Napoleon Dynamite and wonder how many takes they had to shoot before they got one that didn't explode. Cautiously optimistic. The hinges and bolts are the plastic style that I don't like as well, but it may rust less, and I don't care quite as much about that. It may clean easier than the wooden seats I'm used to. Installation was very easy. The normal "white" color matches our porcelain fixture. The seat does close incredibly slowly, but as long as it eventually closes -- and it does -- I can live with that. ... show more

This replaces a cheap plastic seat that had a broken plastic bolt at the back. Every time we sat on it we risked getting pinched skin, and if it was a hot day the seat came with us as we stood up. (Ugh) This coated wooden seat not only looks good, but it feels sturdy as heck. There is zero movement in any direction while using it, thank goodness, and it’s heavy enough that it doesn’t come with us when we stand up. These are simple things to expect in a toilet seat and this one delivers! ... show more

First thing I noticed when I got this was an advisement to not use harsh chemicals to clean it. Something that wasn't in the Amazon listing. This is a _toilet_ seat. Anything short of an autoclave or fire should be permitted for sanitizing it. I clean it with bleach cleaner, so far I haven't noticed any problems with the finish. Second thing I noticed was manufacturing (injection molding) defects. One of the latches came warped. The underside was deformed such that it wouldn't sit level on my toilet bowl. I ended up shaving away some material to make it better. Still I would have expected this defect to not have left the factory. However it is quite sturdy (I have some bigger guests and so I was really looking for a non-hollow seat). And although it doesn't have a quick release mechanism that I desired I believe the gaskets that came with it are preventing mess from getting under the latch. We are both small. I’m the bigger of the two and I’m 5’. This is a comfortable seat. It was a little tricky to install but once in is comfortable. It is slow to close, but that doesn’t bother us.
