Description

SkyMaster Pro ED binoculars are the ideal choice for amateur astronomers. With the 50 mm objective lenses, BaK-4 prisms, ED Glass, and Celestron's proprietary XLT coating technology, the view through a SkyMaster Pro ED is second to none at this price point. The 50mm objective lenses have tremendous light-gathering capabilities, delivering superior low-light performance, even in the dimmest conditions. The Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass virtually eliminates chromatic aberration, also known as color fringing, a visual defect common in binoculars delivering edge-to-edge sharpness with excellent color correction and razor-sharp images. SkyMaster Pro ED's eyepieces are threaded to accept standard 1.25" astronomical eyepiece filters to deliver game- changing views. The SkyMaster Pro ED 7x50 is tripod adaptable allowing the binocular to be attached to a tripod for added stability. The polycarbonate and aluminum housing allows the binocular to be lighter weight without sacrificing its durability. The protective rubber armor is extremely rugged and durable and can handle demanding use. The fully waterproof housing for all weather conditions provides peace of mind when unexpected weather occurs. The housing is also filled with dry nitrogen gas to prevent the internal lenses from fogging when moving between extreme temperatures or using the binocular in damp conditions. Bring distant objects into view with 7x magnification—great for observing celestial objects in greater detail, searching for wildlife in the brush, or viewing a distant object on the horizon.

  • ED Glass is excellent - Amazing Astronomy Binoculars
Style: SkyMaster Pro ED 15x70
I have had a number of astronomy binoculars - started with a simple 7x50 binocular then eventually graduated up to the larger Sky Master 15x70 (non ED) model. You can get that non-ED 15x70 for under 100 dollars. I had that binocular for many years and I will absolutely say that if you cant afford the Pro ED version, start off with that regular 15x70 for sure. However..... The difference in the Pro ED model is significant - especially if you know what you are looking for. Ink-black sky with stars that are tack sharp (under good seeing conditions -sometimes atmosphere can mess that up) but under steady clear sky, objects "pop" better in these ED glass lenses. Just scanning the milky-way is like leaving ground and flying through space. Its by far my favorite thing - just panning across the sky. Objects like the double cluster, andromeda, M13 Hercules cluster are jaw dropping. I also own telescopes - and don't get me wrong, the larger aperture of a telescope is great - but these binoculars are always so easy to just grab, sit down in a chair and enjoy the night sky. That's why I love astronomy binoculars - it makes it so easy. The 15x70 Pro ED also features filter threads if you want to add moon filters or even higher-end light pollution filters. I have yet to try that yet and I will report back if I ever do. I live where its pretty dark - so I have not found a need to add filters - but its good to know I can on this model. Comparing these to my original 15x70 - the Pro ED is heavier - that is for sure. But that weight comes from better lenses and a more complex optical system. The added weight is rarely noticed because I am more focused on being blown away at the sky. I could see if you used these for a couple hours - you could get tired of using them - but the quality outweighs that negative significantly. You can also add a tripod adapter to this - I have done that. I like to display these binocular on a tripod in my home overlooking the lake. We use these to view boats and see what is happening out on the water. The 15x power brings everything in really nice. So if you get these, get that tripod adapter - they work with all regular photo tripods - so if you have a tripod already - you are all set once you buy that adapter. It simply threads in-between the binocular lenses and is super stable. I would recommend that for sure. If you are on the fence between these and the 20x80 model - I get it. I was too. But I am glad I choose the 15x70 as these are easier to hand hold - that 20x80 is pretty big and would likely require the use of the tripod all the time. Again, I like to sit in my chair and pan the night sky - not as easy to do when tripod mounted. I do believe at some point I will order the 20x80 model - maybe next summer. The quality of these binoculars are exceptional. Final thoughts on some of the other basics - the case is great - but I rarely use it. It also came with a strap that I wouldnt see a use for unless I was hiking out further to view - but again, I view right on my property. But the strap seems nice regardless. Oh! One more thing - do yourself a favor and really learn how to adjust the diopter adjustment on binoculars. One of the eyecups has the ability to adjust its focus (in case one eye is slightly different than the other) and I cant stress enough - learn how to properly do this. Just look for a video online that walks you through that simple process. Once these are focused on stars in the sky, you dont really need to adjust focus that much at all. The focus knob is smooth and easy and objects snap into focus easily. I hope this review helps someone choose a good astronomy binocular - again, the regular 15x70 is great - but this Pro ED version is just a different level of quality. Worth it. ... show more

  • Celestron Nailed It! Great Bang for your Buck
Style: SkyMaster Pro ED 7x50
Normally don't do reviews, but this purchase was one of best I made in a long time. Robust build, nothing cheap about these binos. Nice grip texture on sides for secure handling and ribbed focus knob for deliberate adjustments. The diopter adjustment may not have a lock, but it's stiff enough you don't have to worry about losing adjustment. Optical quality once focused its absolutely premium. Use a terrestrial object during the day that good distance away that has features that will aid in focusing. Cover right objective with your hand, use the main focuser. Then cover the left objective with your hand for the diopter fine tune. All set for night observing, one and done. You will be blown away by the color of the stars. I have had expensive APOs before, this does an amazing job keeping up with the quality of the viewing. 7x50 is great for handheld viewing for 10-20 seconds and you can mount to a tripod or monopod(my recommendation). I recommending skipping the Celestron hook adapter and getting an all metal one you can get on Amazon like the Baskar mount which also has deeper threads for more secure mounting. The 7x50 is going to be the quick grab and go astronomy or even bird watching binos. They are heavier than what you are used to, but the glass and robustness speak for the weight. Common complaint about the size of the eyecups, I did not have an issue. My IP distance in 63mm, you can download a free app that will measure for you using your phone camera. I believe the min you need as 56mm. I did not have issues with pinching of the nose, but I don't think some people are using the binos right. I adjust them just a smudge past the point where the kidney bean(blackout) in the middle goes away. You don't have to squeeze them down to the full circle when you are viewing, you don't achieve anything extra besides discomfort on the face. You can adjust the eye cups and they work great. I wore glasses and had them all the way in and had full view of everything, no dark zones. Without glasses I had them two notches out. Celestron knocked it out of the park with this series of binos. I already plan getting the 20x80 or 15x70s, but I am glad I got these first due to ease of use and functionality. You can have these sitting on the kitchen table and do quick night observations or bird watching with the 7x50s. No setting out a tripod or complicated setups. Anything higher magnification would require a monopod or tripod setup IMHO. Comes with real nice bag too with strap and molle type loops on the back to secure to bag or belt. ... show more

  • Excellent optics and build quality, but eyecups are far too big.
Style: SkyMaster Pro ED 20x80
I am impressed by the build quality of these binos. A little on the heavy side, but managable. The quality of the image and optics is also impressive. Very clear views and a nice wide field of view. The problem is with the eyecups. They are far too large and don't allow enough room in between for your nose, and prevents you from getting a good position for eye relief and inter pupillary distance settings. The eye relief is moderate and could be much better. It looks as if Celestron designed the eyepieces to accept filters at the expense of eye relief. I would MUCH rather have the eye relief than the ability to add filters that are rarely used. So if you have an average to large size nose, you may have a problem getting good views with these. I ended up taking the eyecups off (they are NOT designed to be removable) and am getting good views that way. I think Celestron needs to better design their eyepieces. ... show more
