The Casual Home 5-Shelf Ladder Bookcase is a simple and attractive bookshelf that adds a delightful point of interest to a room while displaying books and other decorative items. The shelf is easy to assemble, has a nice sturdy feel to it, and has "steps" that are wide enough to hold many items. I was able to assemble the shelf by myself within an hour - it probably would've taken less time had I not been on the phone chatting - and once assembled, it looks simple but beautiful. I love how the wood feels sturdy and is evenly stained with no blemishes, dents, or dings in the wood, and how durable to shelf feels. It is free-standing, so it's not necessary to lean up against the wall, and it comes with straps to attract it to a wall to avoid tippage or the chance of it falling over, which is great for people who live in earthquake country as I do. The color is as rich and pretty as it is in the stock photo and each shelf is durable enough to hold a good number of decor pieces and books. It's actually a 4.5 rating but no option to do that. it looks wonderful. I thought it was an elegant solution for getting the wifi router off the floor but still have something not obstructing any signal. All while enhancing decor. The structure is solid enough to stand on its own but it of course comes with safety screws to the wall. The pilot holes were a bit tight for the screws so it was slightly more work. but the fact that they gave you a hefty alan wrench means the screws were not going to strip and I appreciated that. I also considered just a leaning one without the back legs but i think this is more sturdy and does it in a minimalistic style. ... show more

This shelf unit is solid wood. Nothing flimsy about it. You can see the screws that hold it together. If they provided โ€˜wooden buttonsโ€™ to cover the holes I would give it a 5. Cannot go wrong for the money.
