I've always had poor punctuality. I don't want to, I just wasn't raised right in some ways and am undoing some bad habits. I've never owned a watch before and the idea of a smartwatch is unappealing to me- I want to be LESS plugged into screens, not more. This is my first watch and it's helping my on-timeness. I want to look at it because the black and dusty gold are so visually appealing to me, along with the '90s digital aesthetic. Looking at it so often keeps the time ever in my mind, as does the hourly beep feature. I've got bad vision and the larger digits than F91W are perfect for the distance from my eyes to my wrist without making for too big a face. I don't think I like visually striking watches and the size of this case is perfect for my wrist and style. It doesn't feel like you spent $300 on it, of course, but in terms of build quality, it feels like you spent more than $30 for sure. I'd compare it to Koss headphones- it probably won't last forever, but it'll last for years if you take care of it and when it comes time for replacement, who cares? It's $30. That value proposition is unbeatable in my opinion. The box is the classic blue and white Casio packaging and included is the plastic store display stand- nothing pretty, but still thoughtful packaging in my opinion. Setting up the watch is beginner friendly and straight forward with the included manual. I got the buttons figured out mostly without the manual in around 5 minutes and I've never set up a watch before. Switching between 24hr and 12hr time is handy for my line of work. The alarm and stopwatch functions are intuitive and useful. The featureset and design are truly everything I need and nothing I don't as I'm not a jetsetter, a diver, a stockbroker or a sailor. The backlight is bright and an attractive amber color on the black with gold line model (hold to illuminate). The buttons are easy to find in the dark and easy to press without being accidentally pressed to easily once you get used to wearing a watch. I've ordered 18mm lug width adapter brackets for mine and replaced the stock band with a NATO G10 band that I find a tad more attractive and infinitely more durable according to reviews. I got the adapters here on Amazon for $8. The quick release pins that came preinstalled with the stock resin band attached seem to be of better quality than the aftermarket ones available on Amazon. They came out and went back in smoothly without damaging the resin case or their mounting holes. I really do think the stock resin band is attractive enough, especially for what you pay, but it did make my wrist sweat, I've heard they crack and crumble with time, and I just like fiddling with stuff to be frank. If you're looking for a sub-$100 watch, I'd save your money, skip anything analog and go with your choice of Casio- I imagine they're all as competently designed, functional, and consistently build as the W217H. Wow this watch is like wearing air.. super light weight, battery and watch were on when it arrived in the box. Programming and seeing it up were really easy. Took me maybe two minutes. Great for women and just long enough band to be small wrist friendly. I love that it is adjustable to military time, seems like it will be durable enough for what it’s about to do (army basic training), appearance is sleek and small framed which I love. About to same size as my Apple Watch. Couldn’t beat the price since I know it will be destroyed during training. Overall love that it’s a cheap yet versatile watch. Wish it could do not then one alarm but that’s okay given what it will be used for. I’ll keep Up posted on how it lasts during training for its durability. This is the Casio watch to get

This is the Casio watch to get. The W217h in gold. I had it on my list for the longest time and kept putting on watches on the list along with it. I have 8 other Casio watches some digital and some analog. I usually wear a watch for a couple of days and then alternate to another watch for a few days. I thought perhaps for this 9th Casio watch I might go G-Shock, however, after seeing this beautiful gold W217h I went with this one. It fits great and is very comfortable on the wrist. The amber background is just beautiful to look at. I don't use the backlight much, however, when you do it will light up your entire screen. You do have to hold the button for the light and once you let go the light will go off. I guess that is a good thing so you don't run down your battery. The face of this gorgeous Casio watch is just a jewel to behold. The gold gives it class. My wife who usually could care less about my watch collection said this gold watch looks great. There you go, my Casio friends. A woman's take on this watch. This is like the big brother of the Casio f98-w. It is slightly larger all the way around, yet still square. The numbers are more prominent and easily readable even if your eyesight is not that good close up. It tells you the time (24-hour or AM/PM), day of the week, and date. Do you want an alarm? You got it. Do you want an hourly chime? You got it. Do you want a stopwatch? You got it. No countdown timer which does not matter to me. 7-year battery life. That is really good. 4 screws on the back so you can change the battery yourself. 50M water resistant. That should keep you going in the rain, washing dishes, showering, and pools. The W217 will keep excellent time, too. Just go to time.gov and set the watch and forget about it. Maybe once a month check and see if you are a couple of seconds off and you can reset if you are OCD like me and need time to be perfect. I have to say again, it is a beautiful watch and the gold makes it pop even more. Sure, you can get the generic black with gold, blue or black trim, however, why would you want to do that when the gold color will set you apart from the crowd? ... show more

Summary: Just buy it. We measure what we value. Time is precious and fleeting. Casio has built an affordable, elegant watch in the W217H. No smart watch distractions. I have worn mine for over seven years. It is robust and reliable- from construction to hiking, swimming in oceans, lakes and pools, from desert heat in the summer to sub-zero temperatures in New England winters. I synchronize it weekly (the watch's drift is less than a second a day). I wear it on the inside of my wrist, so less worries about damage. Same battery for over seven years. Don't press the buttons underwater to maintain its water resistance. When the band breaks, treat yourself to a new band. Just buy it. ... show more

A decent, basic, watch.

This is a vintage inspired watch as far as I'm concerned. The price was acceptable to justify the faults. This is very much a "retro watch" that is very minimal, but functional. The watch is easy to wear and is a "normal size". A great "all around" watch to wear. Don't expect an indiglo-style illumination. The LED on this watch is serviceable but is an adjustment coming from the world of electro-luminenesence. The fact that it's missing is a bummer, but understandable for the price. Years ago I stopped wearing wristwatches- mainly because I have a clock on my cellphone(s) and because the working environments I was in were too abusive at that time. Sadly a few real nice watches were sacrificed along the way, even in non-work environments.. So I quit wearing them. My elderly dad had given me one of his watches- you know one of those "Dad" Gold watches...and it just wasn't me. Also similarly from my FIL who passed I received an inherited watch and again, it's from that generation and just not me. I put it away. But I got tired of having to reach for a cellphone to know the exact time, and I also am tired of seeing everyone (including myself) with their attention on the handheld wafer idiot nanny box (cellphone), and wanted a watch again to easily monitor the time. This Casio W217H-9AVCF is the one I chose after some shopping, and only having it a day so far, yes I REALLY like it. It offers just a few functions, is easily readable; and fits my 6.75" wrist perfectly. I also chose the subtle gold-trimmed variant over W217H the blue variant or the others, as it's more classy IMO, and fits with anything you might wear....casual or more dressy. I also added an aftermarket screen protector (glad I did) but this pic is the watch right out of the box, without the screen protector. ... show more

The Casio W217H is a great watch. I have many Casio digital wristwatches, and this one is nice. I love the orange, or I would say amber-colored, backlit display. Also, when you push and hold the light button, the display light stays on as long as you hold the button. I personally love that the display is very clear even without the display light on. And it fits very nicely on my wrist, but I don't have big wrists. I like that it has a slightly thinner bottom plate as well, so it has a low profile, but it might not fit all wrists. But I personally recommend this watch from Casio, and I love the Casio watch brand. I have been using Casio wristwatches since the '80s. ... show more

So far I really like it. Obviously don't know if the advertised 7-year battery life is accurate. All the other features are pretty intuitive. I like the ability to easily switch between 24-hour time and 12 hour time. I don't know yet if the month and day automatically switch or have to be reset at the first of each month. ... show more
