  • GW-B5600HR-1JF. One of the best looking square gshocks!
Got this gw-b5600hr-1jf for the combi bracelet. I have a few other gshocks (full metal and resin) but this is my first square with combi bracelet. You can check out reviews/specs/videos on the internet for detail so i’m not going to review those as there is plenty. This review is to share how this gshock exceeded my expectations. First off I received the JDM version (jdm tag, black flip up cardboard box). I read some reviews where some people got the usdm version. I bought it from a japanese retailer but it shipped from KY. Also it inly took 2 days from order to delivery. Second, even though this is JDM, as other reviewers have mentioned, this watch is made in china. At $222 with BT, tough solar and MB6, i did not expect this to be made in japan. This is not a bad thing also. The bracelet alone makes it well worth it for about half of what i paid. Third, it is negative display so some people will have issues with visibility/legibility. I on the other hand do not mind. I have another negative display gshock and i love both positive and negative stn displays. I also look at my watch directly above if i need the time, and not at an angle. The led light does help tremendously in making it bright enough when in low light or at night. Fourth, the BT connectivity brings the gshock line to the next level. Very intuitive settings, fast connectivity, and user friendly interface. It is a must specially for newer models. As far as durability, i do not expect this to be any less durable than the resin ones. It feels solid. From the case to the module to the bracelet. It just exudes protection and security. Overall i highly recommend this watch for collectors simply with the combi bracelet alone. You wont get disappointed ... show more

  • Great watch at a great price!
For the price, this is probably the best 5600 series square you can buy. In terms of features, It comes with multi band 6, tough solar and bluetooth. You also get five alarms and 5 time zones, which ive never seen before. For the stopwatch and timer, it will display the home time in the upper right corner, something I really like when setting long timers. The watch pairs very quickly with the G shock app, and makes the inital setup effortless. Its an excellent app that ive never had an issue with. However, the bluetooth isnt very useful unless you use the phone finder feature, or cant get the atomic signal where you live. I havent used it since the inital setup. As for the rest of the watch, it looks and feels great. I really like the red accents, its not too much but looks great when you do see it. The multi link bracelet feels amazing, if youve never tried it id highly reccomend it. Its light and comfortable, and looks great. Its not something you need a jewler for either, just a paperclip and a bit of paitence. The bracelet itself is almost impossible to find aftermarket, and is nearly the price of this entire watch on ebay alone ($140). For that alone, this watch is an incredible value. Theres almost no downsides I can think of. The display can be a bit difficult to read if not viewed straight on, but 90% of the time its clear and crisp. Its not like the negative Rangeman if youre familiar with that. It also doesnt display battery percentage, you either have to check the app or wait until you get a low battery alert. So far though ive never had that happen. Overally id highly reccomend, and if youre on the fence just go for it! ... show more

  • Comfortable, functional, and attractive stealth watch…
If you are looking for a comfortable, durable, highly-functional, looks-good-on-the-wrist “stealth” watch, then you may want to consider this one. Why is it ‘stealthy’?… well, even though it has some some attractive splashes of deep red color, the watch dial, negative display, black bracelet and bezel are all dark enough to keep the overall look subdued, understated, and stealthy. I travel a lot and am sometimes in sketchy areas, so it can be good to sometimes wear understated watches. Solar charging and multi-band 6 automatic time-sync help to keep the whole package low maintenance. The black linked bracelet is attractive, comfortable to wear, and easy to adjust. Casio uses standard spring-loaded watch-band pins between each link, so they are not difficult to remove when adjusting the fit. The watch has a rich set of features, and there is a 22-page pdf manual available online that describes the full set of functions that this watch supports. About that negative display: it’s not to everyone’s taste. I’m 70 and have no special problems reading it in moderate-to-bright light… *but* I’ve been somewhat near-sighted since my early teens and have never needed reading glasses for any up-close viewing. Others can sometimes find such displays to be trickier to read, especially in low lighting, than the g-shock models with positive displays. But the automatic backlight feature works quite well on this watch, and with solar charging you’ll not have to worry much about the backlight wearing out your battery. Anyway, highly recommended provided you are one who can tolerate the negative display. ... show more

  • Interesting and classic casio watch
I bought this watch because of the manufacturer's claims about resistance and durability, as well as the measure of resistance to water and solar charging; also for the bracelet model, since the one usually received is not to my taste. After a few weeks my first impressions are: Positive: The materials are pleasant to the touch. The deep black color is matte and aesthetically pleasing (in my taste), as is the contrast of the black and red, the internal red colors are not evident on the outside with the bracelet on the cuff. In general it is a better quality watch than lower priced resin or plastic casio models. Negative: The buttons are not easy to operate. You can only know the status of the battery through the app, with almost no information. Readability may be absent in various perspectives or at night. And the clasp of the bracelet clashes in quality with the rest of the links. Neutral: the bracelet is very very light, cristal is mineral. ... show more

  • I 'upgraded' from the latest Apple Watch and don't regret it one bit.
I grew up in the era of Casio calculator watches, BMX bikes, and the Commodore 64. All of those things lasted many many years. But instead, today we are spending $800 or more on Apple watches that are outdated within a few years at best. After my 3rd generation of Apple Watch I decided to go back to basics. First off, I love this watch like I loved my calculator watch as a kid. I no longer get tapped on the wrist every few minutes with damn haptic feedback, interrupting me when I'm reading, like Dobby from Harry Potter is in the room trying to get my attention. Second, and what an novel idea... I don't have to charge the watch every single evening! Remember these batteries last a very long time, and with solar charging it doesn't need me to spend all my time outside either. As long as you are not a hermit, it'll get enough light to keep it charged. But the real killer here is that it looks so damn cool. I love the black and red, it's subtle but looks great It's very comfortable, and I don't have the problem of my arm hairs getting ripped out like some other link straps have done to me in the past. The initial setup with the bluetooth app is so easy a 3 year old could do it. The time is accurate to the second thanks to the radio time sync (and bluetooth via the app). I did have to remove some links for it to fit on my wrist, so make sure you have a paperclip or needle to hand. It's a bit fiddly, but only takes a few minutes. As for the black screen, it's not going to be as easy to read as the normal grey displays, but I like it. You can also set it to illuminate when you raise your wrist. This watch is a good combination of old school cool, with modern technology, and I've now escaped the ridiculously expensive Apple eco-system (in part). ... show more

  • Full-featured, great price - I love this watch!!!
I am a g-shock fanatic, and own dozens of them currently. I've owned everything from the $40 DW-5600E to the $3,000 MRG-G1000B-1A. This particular watch reminds me of the GW-5000HR from a few years back, except that this one does not have a screwback case like the 5000HR. Nevertheless, it's a great watch!! It has the same great look that the 5000HR has. The red and black coloring scheme is really very good. Despite having a negative dispay, the watch is very legible under good light. And this watch has upgraded tech too - it has Bluetooth for added functionality! One of the nice things about Bluetooth on this watch is that the watch will attempt to sync the time automatically 4 times per day from your phone, without any action on your part. Talk about effortlessly having the exact time on your wrist! If my photos are visible, you can see that I have added bull bars to the watch. Those do not come with it. They may help to protect the crystal from impacts, but my main reason for adding them is I love the look with them on the watch. I nearly forgot to mention, this watch sports a newer composite bracelet from Casio!! It's got cool red resin on the inside, some of which peeks out through the band when you wear the watch. This watch is very very comfortable on this bracelet. It is light enough and so well-balanced that you might forget you are even wearing it! To top it off, this price is relatively cheap for such a full-featured watch. (and with a composite bracelet) I really like this one! ... show more

  • Size? Or something else?
Today is day 1 of me owning this watch, so keep in mind this review may be edited. This is my first g shock watch… yes yes I know, the rock I was living under was always stocked with Apple Watches. The watch itself is a decent size even for my meat paws, however the display itself is very small, smaller than I thought it would be. The issue here isn’t the case itself, but how far apart from the bezel does the display actually start. You do have to read this at a certain angle depending on what kind of light you are in… it’s gloomy today so I can’t say much for the outside but the inside I’ve found right around evening time to be the most annoying. The watch auto light doesn’t quite pickup unless it’s a certain shade of dark, that time where it’s slightly dark/light in your home - the watch will register the auto light feature 50% of the time ish. My next complaint - the rattle of the clasp, the bracelet itself is fine and actually comfortable but the clasp rattles with certain movement or if you touch it. Not the biggest deal, but something to consider. My final complaint and possibly the deal breaker for me. The buttons require child size fingers, or fingernails to press down. The buttons on the left hand side are even more so uncomfortable because of the way you have to bend your other hand to press, covering the view of the display. For the price, is this a good watch? I’d say yes, the build quality looks and feels top notch. But love at first sight, it was not. ... show more

  • Great value for money
Was debating between renewing my smart or getting an old school watch but in the end decided for this: It is my first G-Shock it is comfortable, surprisingly lightweight even with its link strap, fits well with almost every outfit and although is not a blingy watch people around you will definitely notice (unlike smartwatches). Without mentioning features like solar charging, radio/Bluetooth time synchronization and that it is virtually bomb proofing! (unlike smartwatches) I could not be more pleased about this purchase ... show more
