I never had ceramic coated knives. I wonder how they hold up with the use. I guess I will find out in time and I will update my review. For the moment, they certainly look good and they're sharp. I like the feeling of the very smooth handle. 12 pieces set means 6 knives and 6 blade guards. I could do with just 6 knives, but maybe the coating will last longer with the guard on. ... show more

This is legit. One of the best knife sets that I've ever bought and I've had. I would say mid price knife sets previously that weren't as good as these. Definitely recommend buying them if you're thinking about it they cut like butter. I can cut through a roma tomato. That's a little squishy to begin with and it doesn't squish my tomatoes. I don't have to push when I'm cutting bread nothing gets squished with these ... show more

The light wood-look handles on these knives kind of give them a Scandinavian aura, like the interior of a 90's Volvo. Contrary to the title, they're not wood, but I really like the feel of the rubber, which is a nice balance between grip, softness, smoothness, and cleanability. The ceramic coating is nicely applied and attractive. They come with OK edges - not crazy sharp, and a little rough and shallow - but decent for this price point. You need to be able to sharpen knives for their purposes in any case, and will have to sharpen all knives sooner rather than later if you use them at all, so I don't put as much weight on this as others might. It's not as if getting a razor edge out of the box gives you a sharp knife for life. (If you don't ordinarily sharpen your knives, consider buying a simple kitchen sharpener with carbide on one angle and ceramic on the other that you can pull the knife through on a regular basis - this requires no skill or practice, and will be a revelation if you regularly work with dull cutlery.) Anyway, this is a nice set that covers all the basic things you need a kitchen set for. The real test for these will a decade's use, but I'm afraid that's beyond the scope of this review. ... show more
