The media could not be loaded. All you have to do is download the apk from the browser on your headunit by using the link provided with the numbers. Update the app if one is available, plug in the dongle to the headunit, then plug your phone in. And it automatically takes you to CarPlay. Click Allow CarPlay on your iPhone device.     • Works, but with app only
So I bought a headunit a couple years ago, which means mine doesn't have android auto or Apple carplay pre-installed. I needed to get this for wired android auto. Now it doesn't charge my phone fast enough, when using GPS the battery actually drains even when plugged in. No big deal for me, because I can still just use Bluetooth for audio and have it sit on a better charger for long trips (which rarely happens nowadays). But the wire for my dongle seems a bit finicky, a slight movement will cause my phone to think the dongle isn't plugged in to my phone or the headunit. But when it works, it works great. It works! I had to reinstall the app to get it to work in landscape mode; but, overall, it does what it advertises. You have to have an Android tablet or head unit for this to work. I used a Fire HD 8 2020 and it works great.

I used this for my android head unit and followed directions and worked right away and love this as the only thing I was missing with this head unit was car play.

    • Yeah, it's janky, but in the best way possible! Highly recommended.
I admittedly thought this thing was a scam when I first heard of devices like it. Well, as it turns out, the CarPlay API is "surprisingly hackable" as someone told me. And thus, the CarlinKit CarPlay dongle was likely born. I was unwilling to shell out hundreds of dollars for a new stereo unit for my car, so my plan was to get a cheap Android tablet and plug the CarlinKit in with a USB OTG adapter. Dear reader, it worked perfectly. I now have a janky but usable CarPlay setup in my 2010 Honda Element thanks to this wonderful thing. I want to personally meet the developers that made the firmware and software for this out of sheer technical interest. The specifications say it draws 1 amp while the phone is plugged in, assumedly for charging (it does slowly charge my iPhone even running off a Kindle Fire). This means it does drain the tablet's battery, but it's enough for me. I waited well over a year after this came on the market to actually buy it, but you should just do it now.
