The color is much lighter than I had been expecting, but as with all wood, grain color varies a lot. My only real complaints are that some of the cuts around the sound holes and tuning machines were a bit rough and required a small amount of sanding to prevent snags, and the bass knob is quite noisy at the high end. While it sounded great with the original strings, I purchased it with the intent of using Super Nylagut low-Gs for a different sound. It handles the slightly larger set of strings well and the sound quality is not hindered by the small sound holes. The electronics have decent sound and the tuner seems to be fairly stable and accurate. Overall, I would recommend this to any beginner-intermediate uke player wanting a slightly larger fretboard and/or a richer sound than a traditional or concert uke. ... show more

I bought this uke about a year and a half ago. At the time I was still kind of a beginner so I didn’t realize just how great it was. Now after playing uke for a few years and owning 4 of them, the quality of this Carmel Tenor far surpasses any of the others that I’ve purchased (including a Carmel concert that I bought assuming the quality would be about the same… sadly it was not). Seriously, for the price u can't beat it for a beginner or advanced player. The sound and the craftsmanship, u can't go wrong. Very easy to tune. Hooks up to the amplifier nicely.     • Very Happy with this Ukulele
It's tough shopping on Amazon for your perfect match in an instrument, I know, I have bought a few. You research what your interested in and all seem to have great reviews, so after pondering you pull the trigger and buy one only to be disappointed when you got it. Well not with this one, I freakin love this ukulele! I was looking at another Caramel ukulele but this one was priced very attractively and had a pickup so I got it. This is so far my favorite of all my five ukuleles , feels like crafted instrument and not a toy. It has a great acoustic sound and rocks like a mutha when plugged in! It's also finished very nice with Mother of Pearl inlay around the sound hole and banding. The Acacia wood has a cool grain to it. I'm very happy with this purchase and don't think I will be looking for any more ukuleles for a long while, but when I do I will look to see what Caramel Ukuleles has to offer first. Now I need to find the amplifier of my dreams....... ... show more

It's not only pretty, but has a great sound to it. I've taught ukulele, and have a group of ukulele players. I would say that this is a really good buy for an intermediate level player who wants to upgrade from a beginner uke. Suprisingly good sound and quality.

I decided to pick up learning ukulele on a whim and didn't want to sink too much money into getting started in case it wasn't the hobby for me. I've played guitar for years so I may have had a slight leg up, but straight out of the box I was able to get going with this uke. I opted for the version with the built-in tuner as it seemed to be the best quality, and it just feels nice having the option (a lot of high end acoustic guitars have this feature). The fretboard is quite nice and I don't feel like the frets will cut my fingers as is the situation with some of the less-expensive ukes. After having to tune a few times over the first week or so, it stays solidly in tune now. I occasionally visit a local music shop to poke around in and had a chance to play with a few models that were closer to $100 and they were not as nice as this one, so I feel this is the best option in this price range. And honestly, I don't really feel the need to upgrade to anything fancier. ... show more
