*** 4 month update - Sold them about a week or two after my last update. They cleaned up nicely for my buyer. They're overkill for the way I train. If you're doing strength based training like the Starting Strength approach, you'll find yourself taking 5 seconds to change the weight, then resting the next 4minutes and 55 seconds for your next set. Would buy again if I ever need something that changes that quick. *** *** 3 Month Update - Minor scuffs from use, they go back to looking like new with a quick wipe. Nothing has broken and am comfortable with the way the weights are held by the mechanism for both Dummbell Rows and Overhead Presses. I haven't dropped them or put my body weight on them (Pushups/ManMakers). You want to slide the handle in from the side a bit for a smoother insert. Overall I'm changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars. I'm convinced these are the new standard to beat when it comes to this weight range and price.*** Safety. The handles and components that allow it to work seem robust enough. It's plastic but definitely not the cheap kind. I was concerned about reviews saying the 5-25 handles would drop plates. I have yet to experience anything like that with these 10-55 handles. Save money, check. A set of 10-55lbs fixed cast iron dumbbells will run you approximately $650 on fbm at $1/lbs. Change weights quickly between sets, check. It's not a solid solid click, but it's a solid click. Extremely satisfied with this. They're just a bit finicky when aligning the handle back on the tray. Wether there's some weight in the tray or not. I think I'll dedicate two different areas for them. One for changing weight and the other for setting down between sets. This is where I think it's lacking. Size is manageable. There will be some exercises where you will need to adapt to the length of the handles. Durability. Survived first, day so far so good. I'll update if and when they fail me. *** 3 months of use and still going strong***

Great quality for the price compared to other alternatives. As some others say, the plastic base does feel like it could break easily but as long as you’re careful, it’s all good. The weights are very easy to adjust and have a hefty click when changing the weight. Sometimes getting them back onto the base requires some wiggling, but this is also fine. Some exercises can be awkward due to their large size, especially for my wife who is a skinny woman. Overall great purchase and also decently portable.

In Short: A really nice set of adjustable dumbbells. There are a few areas for improvement here and there, but this set can easily replace a full rack of weights for most workouts! The Longer Story: One of the downsides of getting older is that you have to take better care of your health, which means more rigorous exercise and a focus on strength. While browsing through Facebook Marketplace, I initially bought some single-weight dumbbells, but I soon realized that different exercises require different weights to train different muscle groups optimally. I am far from a pro athlete - I train about once a week - but it became painfully obvious that, for me, a 20lb weight was insufficient for a goblet squat, yet way too heavy for a lateral arm raise. Keeping a ton of cast iron lying around wasn't ideal, so I finally went the route of adjustable weights. These CAP dumbbells work well. They have an interesting mechanism where the weight can only be changed when the dumbbell is "docked" in its cradle. You simply rotate the center grip to adjust the weight in 5lb intervals (from 10lbs up to 55lbs), and the dumbbell symmetrically loads the plates on both sides. Unlike other adjustable sets, this allows you to set the weight with a single rapid movement. The only downside to this specific design is that you cannot load the sides unevenly for more obscure exercises (theoretically possible if you remove a plate from just one side, see the video). Another small downside are the not perfectly flat surfaces on the sides of the dumbbell - this makes laying them down "on the side" (vertically) a bit less stable and wobbly. The unit is very solidly built - not surprising considering the weight it has to carry. I would not necessarily toss it on the ground, but it feels reassuring enough to do overhead raises without fear of getting hit by loose weighs. As long as you are not doing any rapid-movement shenanigans with heavy weights, the loading mechanics should not be a concern. One specific feature I love is the hex shape; I use dumbbells for pushup variations, so having a set that doesn't roll away is a major plus. So, why not five stars? There are a few quirks. As you can see/hear in the video, you have to be quite delicate with the alignment of the grip inside the cradle. This can get annoying after an exhausting set where fine motor skills are fading; if you place them in a crooked fashion, the adjustment mechanism won't trigger (which is actually a great safety feature). Acoustically, you can hear the mechanism rattling a bit when you shake them, especially at lower weights. Finally, I personally would have preferred 2.5lb intervals for better fine-tuning of weights. Overall, these are minor gripes. This is a great set of adjustable dumbbells that saves a ton of space. It’s a perfect addition to my beginner workout routine, allowing me to easily experiment with different weights!

I’m sure bowflex is a superior product, but i’m not gonna shell out $500 for any adjustable dumbbell. CAP is a brand you would find around my home gym so I already knew i was getting an 80% legit product. These aren’t clanky or cheap feeling. The adjuster works pretty smoothly. They have to rebalance a certain way in your hand (which is an odd sensation) but you get used to it. Solid buy for an intermediate lifter who doesn’t want to pack up his entire gym for every road trip.

Took a break from the (home) gym for a little while, and also because the dumbbells I had before these, you have to take off the plastic screws and manually load each plate. It really annoyed me so I didn’t workout for a while. Mind you, I don’t like going to the gym(physically driving there), and the gyms in my area aren’t too good. So I then decided I had to find a solution so I wasn’t spending so much time manually loading weights and I found these. They came in way faster than the anticipated delivery time, which was awesome. For the first time use, it was fantastic. It saves so much space, and I’m not spending my rest time in between sets to change the weight, when all I have to do it rotate the handle with these on their base. The weight capacity on these are perfect, as most people aren’t the hulk ingesting 4-5k calories a day. In my perspective, this is money well spent. As of this review, the dumbbells are in great shape and holding up strong. I hope these last for a long while.

I am actually delighted. I am new to dumbbell workouts and had been buying individual pairs and was rapidly needing heavier weights. Unlike other adjustable weights, these can sit comfortably on your thighs as you boost up. Read the instructions and avoid dropping them, and they are pretty great. Also got them at a very good price.

Been looking to get a set of weights since the pandemic for working out at home. I work at a college and have unlimited access to a gym anytime I want, but I got tired of going there just to do some light upper body. So I bought a bench and these weights. I've used them twice since I got them and they are fantastic. I don't body build no more, but I like to keep my upper body in check. These are perfect and I'm 120# and 55 lbs is really all I need. If I need heavier, I'll just go to work and lift. While I got plenty of room in my house, I just don't need/want a whole weight rack for working out a few times a week. I like how they easily slide back in and in two seconds of twisting the handle I get the exact weight I want. In fact, I think it's easier than messing with individual dumbbells to get out of order (OCD!) on a rack. For folks that pay to use gyms, you buy a decent bench and these dumbbells and you can get a quality workout without it taking up an entire room. I bought a nice commercial treadmill back in 2016 and its got thousands of miles on it and I don't know why I didn't buy these back then. Like my treadmill, I know my money will be a return on investment in a year or two just with use. I also like the copper handles on these weights. Just stick with a decent workout routine and you'll be fit for life. Folks ask me how I stay so good looking and I tell folks all you need is 30 minutes a day of personal time doing something athletic (combining a little bit of cardio and light lifting) and you'll be ahead of the game as you get older. One thing to focus on is to use lighter weights is to go slow to get that "burn". Believe it or not lifting lighter, but going slow can make you lift double the weight later on without burning yourself out. Just something I learned over my decade of lifting heavy. Great weights and CAP is my go-to dumbbell and weight company. Quality stuff here!
