Forget all the negative here. I'm 89 year old and been using computers since 1984. I have an HP with a drawer, (who in the world would buy a computer without one???) Anyway I had no problems using the CD to set the printer up or following the instructions to do so. The area it takes up is a third of what my old Cannon all in one did. More desktop space to use. It is light enough anyone can pick it up with ease. It is well worth the 5 stars I gave it. My only complaints are and they aren't large; (1) it doesn't ask you if you want an icon on the screen and you have to find the printer on the control panel or hard drive and tell the computer to put one there. (2) and this is the largest thing to me, it takes so long to a-line the heads. I have never had to a-line heads in any printer, so this was new but it was very time consuming although you were walked through it step by step. Along with the time, the printer had to use ink to show you the a-lineaments so you can click the various areas on the screen to set them for the best printing. I hope Cannon took this into consideration when they loaded the ink cartridges that came with it. (I did buy a second set of the XL at the time I got the computer). (3) with my arthritic hands it took a little bit to get the cartridges in, there is no latch like the other printers have so you have to push in and up till they click. As for the operation it is great, the print is clear, it doesn't take long to print (exception is the a-lineament pages) and it doesn't give you any sass. It is the next step up from the old printers we started out with that had the tape that ran back and fourth and could be loaded from the bottom so you could set an entire paper case under them.. Loved those old ones. This one to me and for me is great. I don't need nor do I like the All In Ones I find something is always not working or jamming, or taking time, or giving me sass etc. I don't print a lot, statements etc at end of month, or perhaps a picture now and then. For the kid in collage for the older person who just wants a nice SIMPLE PRINTER and doesn't need a FAX or the SCANNER coming with it, this is a fantastic step. I always have thought that you need your computer pieces separate, so that when one goes out you don't loose the fax and scanner etc. It's much more expensive to replace an All In One for home then just run out and pick up a printer or a scanner. I have used a cannon Lide scanner for years; I'm on my third one and love my extra pieces sitting on their own and not together. That said this is a fantastic little light weight work horse printer that is easy to install, easy to use, and doesn't give any sass or say it can't print, you're off line, paper jam, etc. I recommend it for people who don't need all the bells and whistles that an all in one gives (provided you can get and keep them working), and only need to print paper or a picture. I hope Cannon keeps this printer in their line up because when mine goes out, if it does, I want another one. ... show more

Well, I don't use my printer much. No heavy-duty printing. So I don't invest much in my printers because it costs about as much to buy replacement ink as it does to purchase the printer outright. Still, I expected this one to last a little longer. (The last Canon I bought was on sale at Walgreen's for $20.00 and it lasted a whole lot longer than this one. ) Anyway, a year to the day I purchased this one, I printed out two documents. I decided I needed to print a third, and all of a sudden I got a message there was a printing error, and it needed repair. I figured it would cost me more to have the thing fixed, plus the time and aggravation of tracking down a local Canon repair location, so I just junked the thing. What really bothered me is that my black ink cartridge still had a bit of ink left and there was no way to even retrieve that! So...I guess you do get what you pay for. Again, though, I expected this one to last longer than a year. ... show more

You’ll find the power cord hiding in between the 2 ink cartridges, Doesn’t come with printer cord but if you already have one that can be a money saver. I didn’t see a CD for Mac just windows with it but my Apple computer didn’t need it anyways, and I had printer cord already. I thought reasonably priced and a good deal for me & my purposes to use it., a little noisy but works well & was easy to get up & going. Instructions could be better I thought. This was my experience but may not be yours though. Hope this helps. ... show more

    • Doesn't always power on

When it works, it's great. The print quality is fine for what I need it for and the speed is good too. However, the printer doesn't always turn on when you hit the power button. The only troubleshooting that Canon offers is to unplug the power cable from the printer and also from the wall, wait 5 minutes and try again. VERY FRUSTRATING! Also, this printer either has a small ink cartridge or uses a lot of ink. I've started buying generic ink cartridges which seem to be working just fine and save on cost. ... show more

I bought this more straightforward printer when the fancy one I bought before couldn't be made to work without fussing with it and calling customer support each time I had to print. This printer was easy to set up -- my computer didn't recognize it, but running the setup file on the DVD provided did the trick in about 5 minutes. After that there was a slight problem because the USB cable wasn't provided with the printer, but I bought one and it worked immediately once connected up. Nothing fancy, it doesn't fax, scan, or connect using Wi-Fi, but it's inexpensive and physically compact. ... show more

This printer I had 4 years and had no problems until I inserted new ink cartridges . The printer stopped working and I thought it was fatally broken. I bought a new one -same model and put the ink cartridges from the old printer into the new one. It worked a few times and then started giving me messages that the printer needed repair and there was a flashing light to show it was not working. I eventually worked my way to the Canon website for this model and discovered that the printer tells what is wrong with it by the number of flashes of the flashing light. There is a chart on the website to show what 1 flash means, 2 flashes and so forth. My printer flashed 10 times which meant the ink cartridge needed to be replaced. I did so and the printer works great. If anyone has one of these printers that has flashing lights -go to the Canon website where they will direct you to a fix for the problem rather than throwing it out as I did the 4 year old original printer. ... show more
