Description

The RF70-200mm F4 L IS USM is a telephoto zoom lens delivering impressive image quality, along with superb mobility as our shortest and lightest 70-200mm f/4 lens to date. Designed for the EOS R System, this lens takes advantage of the large diameter mount and short back focus distance of the RF mount to be more compact and portable so you’ll be even more inclined to take it with you. Results are stunning thanks to 4 UD lenses to help correct chromatic aberration and keep colors vivid, reduced ghosting thanks to AirSphere Coating (ASC), and Optical Image Stabilization and coordinated OIS and In-Body Image Stabilization for amazingly clear, crisp images and video. It’s also fast, focused and quiet, with dual Nano USMs contributing to a short minimum focusing distance and high-speed autofocus for still shooting and near-silent, smooth autofocus during movie shooting. These features and more, combined with the confidence to shoot in almost any condition with dust- and weather resistant seals and fluorine coating, make the RF70200mm F4 L IS USM lens a solid performer for any situation.

  • This is a great lens
The lens is sharp and very good at color representation. Perfect focal length and a really nice min focus distance. Works well with the R8. Extremely portable and lightweight. Good autofocus, Can not wait to take more pictures with it.

  • Great Lens!!
Unbelievable sharpness! I use this lens paired with a Canon R7 body for shooting sports. My first use was to shoot volleyball in an ordinary high school gym (not the best lit). Having the camera set to an ISO of around 6k, aperture at f4, and the shutter speed at 1/800, the photos came out really nice. Since noise in a Canon R7 isn't a real issue at high ISO's, a minimum aperture of f4 is quite acceptable. In the past I used both Canon and Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lenses on a Canon 50D mostly set at f4 because at the lower aperture the pics were a little soft. There may be times that a F2.8 might be a little better but not for me. This time I bought the lower priced F4 model and don't regret it a bit. I normally only use lower f-stops when using macro lenses. The focusing on this lens is super fast and it responds really well when tracking players ... and the bokeh, though not as deep as a f2.8, was really good too. Overall, its a well made lightweight lens that will be a great addition to any photographers kit. ... show more

  • Absolutely love this lens!
Best lens investment I have made. The lens is light, packs well owing to size, and takes some really amazing pictures. I was thinking of getting the f/2.8 but decided on the f/4. So glad I did. Bokeh is the best, providing clear separation of the subject and background when you want it.

  • Great quality, light weight, and compact
This lens is fast enough for wildlife and landscape, but if I had a bigger budget, I would like the f2.8 version for better low light performance. Another but, I usually shoot at higher f-stops for more details on wildlife anyways. The lens is very well built, light, and compact when compared to the f-2.8 version, also $1000 less in cost. I have quality glass (buy once) and I will upgrade the camera only when necessary. I pair this lens with the RF100-500L for birding and the RF24-105L for landscape and travel. ... show more

  • Excellent All-Around Lightweight Lens
This is an amazing zoom lens. I use it for travel, landscape and nature photography. Since it’s a versatile lens, it’s also great for portraiture. This has become one of my favorite lenses as it’s compact, sharp and focuses fast using AF and manual modes. It’s also perfect for isolating your subject. I’ve attached some photos. All of these were taken handheld without a flash or filter, and were taken at different times of the day - morning, afternoon and evening as well as indoor and outdoor. Cons: I really can’t think of any. Perhaps the only thing would be is why I waited this long to purchase it - I guess I was waiting for more online reviews to come in. And oh, one more thing, the lens hood that came with it - wish it has a little sliding window so you can rotate and adjust the filter while using it. I didn’t knock a star from the rating since I’m reviewing the lens and not the hood. ... show more

  • WOW, The Canon RF70-200 F4 L IS USM is Awesome !
Got mine on June 17, 2023, and took it out for a spin with my R6 Mark II the next day. Whoa ! I'm impressed, it's everything that Canon said it would be. Light, Compact, High Image Quality and Bright Contrast, High Speed, Smooth and Quiet Auto Focus, with dual nano usm. I took it to the beach to try it out and got some great shots. I'm so glad that I bought it. It was a hard decision between the F4 L and the F2.8 L. I decided on the F4 L because it is lighter more compact not to mention the $$$ saved. The shots I took are crisp and very sharp. The Bokeh is beautiful and no vignetting. It's a great companion for my RF 24-105 f4 L IS USM as its just as compact and light. I love the new RF lenses and you'll fall in love with them too. I added a couple of wildlife shots that I took. Now, I need to learn how to really use this Lense to it's full potential. (The pics were taken with the lense right out of the box to test it..) ... show more

  • Wanted this for quite a while....
Great Lens. Definitely worth the money and for me a Great savings over the 2.8. Lightweight. Compact.

  • Lens is compact and sharp!
Some day this lens may have dust sucked into it because of the nature of it's design, but for now it's clean inside and because it shrinks down, it fits in my compact camera bag. If this lens was any larger I probably wouldn't take anywhere. It autofocuses super quickly and is tack sharp. It's my only RF L lens at the moment and it's definitely my favorite next to the RF 50mm 1.8 STM. 200mm on the Canon R6 is enough reach for most situations, there are times when I wish I could reach out to 250 or 300mm to really get in close on wild life since I don't have the extra resolution on my camera. The coatings on the lens appear to help with flare a lot, the image of the plant touching the sunset is a good example of this. F/4 gives enough separation for most situations if the subject is close enough. I'm sure F/2.8 would have been amazing looking, but it was far too expensive and it would have been too large for my bag. The R6 looks pretty amazing with the lens on it, makes it look very professional. I recently found out the lens is white (ish) to help with reflecting heat off the lens and that Canon is always working to perfect this color, I always thought it was just because it looked cool. ... show more
