    • Finding a truly sharp kit lens is often a fruitless journey - but this RF24-50 really does shine!
For those of you (us) who have adopted the full frame Canon RF line, it didn't take long for Canon to release a bevy of lenses to suit most occasions. And with most 3rd party brands now producing additional RF-mount lenses, the sky is the limit on your choices. After having tried two other RF mount kit lenses - with much disappointment - I took the chance of ordering this rather (what seemed to be) unremarkable 24-50 focal length kit lens. I wasn't expecting much, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. When it arrived, I wasn't really surprised about the plastic lens mount (after all, the previous EOS M mount had plenty of plastic mount versions in that lens lineup, but most were quite sharp). I attached this RF24-50 to the Canon RP camera, and I was stunned (in a good way) to notice the consistency of sharpness across the frame. So although the RF24-50 gives you a limited focal range, I realized that I spend a good 90-95% shooting within the 24-50 MM focal range, so it really worked out. But again, at least with my copy of the lens, I find the contrasts to be nice, and the sharpness levels are quite consistent across the frame - and that's the big thing here. So if you're looking for a fairly inexpensive kit option for a good all-around optic, look no further (in my opinion, of course) than this RF24-50 IS STM version. Disclaimer - One should be aware that when it comes to most kit lens choices, there will eventually be copy-to-copy variations in quality levels. One person may get a sterling copy of a lens, while the next person may get a loser. It is what it is, and that's part of the process. From entry point to extremely light, this little lens is good to have for casual events like fairs, or street photography, besides the cheap plastic construction and lack of weather sealing, the main draw back is the slow aperture but let be honest half of the time we rather have our entire photo in focus, and shooting in broad daylight. ... show more
