It is a great travel lens for the money. It is light and fairly small, with a wide field to long zoom capablility, so you can get by with one lens for a wide variety of applications from shooting landscapes, rooms, portraits, and even whale watching trips. The biggest issue is that low cost means small diameter lenses and therefore the F6.3 at 240mm for overcast days outside will require higher ISO and/or lower shutter speeds - which may cause a problem for moving animals or birds in flight. I bought this lens to be a lens for use while traveling, so that I don't have to take my 100-400 L series lens, which is big and heavy - but technically an excellent lens. The 100-400 is my most used lens, but walking around with it is difficult, ths this small lens with a wider zoom range - 24-240 is a heckuva lot! Typically to get this coverage I carry a Canon 24-105, and the 100-400. This one 24-240 lens does almost anything I need while casually shooting while traveling. True, it is not a long (400 vs 240 mm) and the aperture is variable vs fixed f/4 but for casula snaps it will be more than adequate. After only a few dozen photos, I'm quite pleased with the image quality. It is heavier than a typical wide zoom range kit lens, a testament to glass elements and metal in the construction. The focus is very quiet, snappy on my R6. The picture of the lens shows the ability of the 24-240 to focus at close range, the Orchid shows the nice bokeh ( background blur) at 150mm ... show more

Just arrived in time for a trip. Light weight for the zoom range. Happy with the lens overall. The only dislike is the AF/MF embedded in the menu like others pointed out. Look forward to bringing this lens with me to Grand Teton + a wide aperture prime lens.

If I don't know what to expect while out for the day (or trip), and I don't want to lug around 2 or 3 lenes, I just use this on my R6ii. So it may not be perfect, but it's value is being ultra versatile 24mm-240mm range and 99% of any shortcomings can be automatically corrected in post for RAW and in camera for JPEG. And it's not high-priced either like some RF glass can seem. Maybe a good upgrade from the "kit" lenses too! ... show more

    • Excellent all-around lens!
This lens covers from wide (24mm) to tele (240mm) with excellent sharpness and color rendition. I know some reviewers have commented on vignetting at wide angles. This should be expected with a lens barrel as long as it needs to be for the 240mm end of the scale, but it is not as bad as they say. If you import into Lightroom, for example, and apply the standard Adobe lens correction for the lens, the vignetting almost disappears, and without losing much of the frame - due to the correction being applied for wide angle distortion. Is this a "real" 24 mm wide angle lens? Of course not! It is really good, but if you need edge-to-edge sharpness without vignetting, you'll need a serious wide-angle prime or zoom lens. There aren't many available for the RF mount at this time, and most will set you back a lot more than this lens costs. For what it is, a not-inexpensive zoom that covers the full range well, it is a great lens. It is not everything for every purpose. I still give it 5 stars, as I think it is an excellent buy for most enthusiasts. A pro would naturally want to add other lenses depending on needs, such as a true wide angle, a portrait lens, and/or a serious super-telephoto. ... show more

I’m very pleased with my results from this lens. It focuses quickly and provides a sharp image. I really love the zoom range the 24-240 provides, this makes it great as a travel lens.
