The lens is a bit larger than I anticipated, but no complaint. Quality seems excellent, both in terms of build quality and the resulting photos and video. It's a great lens, and it covers a wide enough range that it does just about everything I need to do with the camera.     • Much lighter and more compact than the f4 version, with little drop-off in image quality.
I love this lens. I originally bought the much more expensive f4 version with my Canon R (I now use an R6 MkII) and found it way too bulky and heavy for a main lens. I mainly use a 24-105 for outdoor shooting, so I didn't need f4 throughout the focal range, so sold it and bought this at less than half the price. It's much lighter and compact, and thus more suitable for a walking-around lens (I have a collection prime EF lens I can mount with the R adapter for when I need something faster for a particular situation, particularly indoors with or without flash). The images are very sharp: I notice very little difference from the f4 (read Ken Rockwell's review of this lens). ... show more

    • Reasonable lens if you lack a basic foundation lens kit
I already have many professional EF - L and various prime third party EF mount lenses. I decided to test how the RF mount lenses work with the function dial. It works as expected but I don’t believe it is worth replacing my EF mount glass. It has been noted the glass in the non L variant of this lens is not much farther off from the L variant which is why I purchased this. The Lens did not hold up to expectations and was fairly basic in sharpness and quality around the edges especially when fully zoomed out. This is a full frame lens but really should be apsc. When using on my eos R at 1.6 crop it wasn’t bad but still not better than my sigma counterpart. ... show more

    • Versatile but too many compromises for me
I love and prefer lightweight, prime lenses. My primary purpose in getting this was for the 24mm focal length and for the 105mm focal length (didn’t really use anything in between). Picture quality was okay. Not great. The lens is quite dark with the 7.1 aperture. Comparing it to my other lenses this typically are on my Canon RP body, which are the RF 50mm 1.8 and the RF 35mm 1.8 and the RF 85mm F2, this lens was too slow and didn’t let in enough light. But then again, it’s probably not fair to compare this lens to prime lenses. If you are new to photography and are looking for a versatile zoom lens to start with, this should work great. If you are looking for a lens that lets in a lot of light, this isn’t the right one. ... show more
