I bought this lens to use with my Canon R3, and shot quite a bit of wildlife on a trip to South Africa. The lens is very good - I found I was able to get a lot more keeper images and it worked well, even in low light. I chose this lens instead of bringing my 600 mm f/4 lens - the 600 mm is just too heavy to travel with (I brought it last time). With this lens, I was able to quickly use it to find animals quickly and I was able to get a lot more shots because I can handhold it. That said, I do wish it had a lower aperture for the 500 mm range, but with the R3 I pushed the ISO up pretty high. I think I found the best results shooting at f/8. ... show more

I used this lens on a trip to Brazil photographing jaguars and other wildlife. I have a lot of really clear shots and the lens worked really with my Canon R6 Mk 2 compared to my previous lens, the Sigma Contemporary 150-600, which does not work well with Canon mirrorless cameras. I decided I needed a little more reach for my next trip, photographing polar bears in the Arctic, so I am trading it in for the RF 200-800. Price is a little hard to swallow for most people.....but....it really changed my bird photography. The image stability of keeping Hawks and Eagles flying tracking....the Autofocus....the 500mm of zoomie zoom zoom. I've taken some very clear and sharp pictures in conditions I couldn't before hand with lesser quality and smaller zoom range lenses. It is heavy. I shoot a lot from tripod so this doesn't bother me much. Even when hand held for short durations it takes some getting used to but really isn't that bad. Auto focus is quick...but when I have issues with locking on a bird in a thick canopy I like the AF-> physical selector switch on the side of the lens to quickly change. Since most of my birds are very skittish, the 500mm's has given me the opportunity to 'get close' and take photos I would not have been able to otherwise. ... show more

Excellent condition for used lens. However, it did not come with the foot to be used with a tripod. I just used it on a cruise in Antarctica and it shot great photos.

I couldn't be happier with this lens. I bought it for bird photography, especially the hummingbirds that visit in the summer. I'm able to capture sharp photos of hummingbirds holding it by hand. It's a Canon quality lens. The zoom range is handy, especially in a lens this compact.

For a LONG time, my favorite lens of all time was the Olympus/OM System 40-150/2.8 Pro, which is still a close second, but this has taken the top spot. I use it on my R6 mk 2 and it's a lot of performance for a(relatively) compact lens. Bigger than my OM-System kit, but not by as much as you might think. I carry the camera and lens, mounted, in a Wandrd Rogue Sling 6L and it fits perfect. ... show more
