Plus, you’ve got an advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor with evolved Face Detection Technology and the Face Detection Self- Timer for extraordinary control and performance. Smart AUTO lets you handle challenging conditions with ease. PowerShot A1100 IS Highlights 12.1-megapixel resolution, 4x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer With the PowerShot A1100 IS, dramatic, personal pictures have never been easier to shoot and share. This 12.1-megapixel digital camera lets you create impressive large photos of family and friends you’ll be proud to display. The high-resolution images taken by the PowerShot A1100 IS can be enlarged up to 13 x 19 inches. The PowerShot A1100 IS has a 4x optical zoom lens that makes it easy to get the inspiring, emotive close-ups that will make your images lasting keepsakes. This magnificent lens gives you the power to shoot distant subjects with razor-sharp precision and stunning lifelike color. So you can brilliantly capture a closer shot of a landscape, or a child’s big smile. The PowerShot A1100 IS is equipped with Canon’s acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake--one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you’ll be proud to shoot and share. And Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer Technology is so convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash. A World of Advantages with Canon’s Technology The DIGIC 4 Image Processor has evolved Face Detection Technology that tracks the faces of moving subjects and lets the shooter enter the frame seamlessly with the Face Detection Self-Timer. DIGIC 4 Image Processor Canon’s most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, delivers evolved Face Detection Technology that keeps every face in every photo looking its very best. The technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed. iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance. A Face Detection Self-Timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments. For instance, to include the photographer’s face in a group shot, there’s no need to rush in. Just put the camera on a stand or tripod, specify Face Detection Self-Timer, and the camera will wait for the photographer’s face to get on-camera before it takes the shot. Motion Detection tracks moving subjects in a much larger range--allowing you to wait for the perfect shot without refocusing. Intelligent Contrast Correction DIGIC 4 also makes possible the i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition. The PowerShot A1100 IS can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated. Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red- eye from subjects in flash pictures. 1) Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken. 2) The PowerShot A1100 IS can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback. 3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them. Life doesn’t give you second chances to capture special times. That’s why the PowerShot A1100 IS features an ISO 1600 setting that reduces the effects of camera shake and sharpens subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility. ISO can be expanded to 3200 when you select ISO 3200 Special Scene mode. Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings Just set the Canon PowerShot A1100 IS to Smart AUTO and you’re ready for maximum enjoyment from your picture taking every time. It’s a relaxing and satisfying way to shoot because you can completely concentrate on your subject knowing that the camera has the technical details covered. Advanced Canon technology intelligently analyzes your situation and shooting conditions. Then it automatically selects an appropriate setting from 18 specially defined settings. So whether you’re photographing flowers, a captivating sunset, or your friends at the park, you can be confident that you’re getting dramatic, memorable images. Shooting Modes Advanced presets for the best possible photos under certain conditions. With 18 Shooting Modes including 9 Special Scene Modes, you’re ready for whatever shot comes your way Large, high-quality 2.5-inch LCD The PowerShot A1100 IS’s 2.5-inch LCD screen gives you the big picture, whether you’re shooting, reviewing or showing off your images. This high-resolution screen offers a crisp, clear and bright picture. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light. Uses 2 AA-size batteries Conveniently, you don’t need to worry about running out or recharging of batteries. Since AA-size batteries can be purchased at any store, simply get new ones locally. • Excellent Camera | 2009/2021 + PRO/CON List
Color: Silver
My parents bought this camera for me back in 2009 when I was entering high school and I have enjoyed shooting with it for several years, until it finally stopped working. I decided to purchase this camera again in 2021 because of its quality, and the convenience of having a lightweight/portable camera with me at all times encourages me to take more pictures. PROS: 1. The 12.1 megapixels are quality; contrary to popular belief, you don't need a lot of pixels, you just need quality ones. It's much better to have 12.1 quality pixels than 18 or 24 decent pixels. 2. The macro ability is amazing! The clarity and sharpness is very good, dare I say even comparable to a DSLR. It's a cheaper alternative for certainly fun to play around with. 3. It's super lightweight and easy to put in your backpack, pocket, or purse/carry on. 4. The interface is user friendly and intuitive. Most Canon products lean towards a simplified interface which is especially helpful for beginners, as I was 12 years ago when I started my photographic journey. 5. Different shooting modes are helpful and creative, but my favorite feature is the Exposure Compensation mode. I can very quickly and easily adjust the settings to preserve the highlights and that's a great feature. 6. Autofocus is pretty accurate and gets it almost every time. However, nailing focus when handheld for macro shooting is slightly aloof, but not difficult. I may just have to focus twice or even three times vs. once when shooting in general. CONS: 1. Not capable of taking RAW images, but the High Quality JPEG still provides a good dynamic range, overall. (Nothing Photoshop can't fix.) 2. The battery life sucks. This is the worst feature about this camera, and my only real compliant. It takes AA batteries, but they'll easily drain if you're shooting throughout the day, so keep some spares and/or buy rechargeable batteries. 3. The Flash mechanism and video mode drains the battery faster. Overall, this camera gets a strong 8/10 for me. If the battery life was better I would grant 10/10. It's great for candids, street photography, still life, parties, a day on the lake/beach, landscape, macro/nature, and just going about your day. If you get a tripod you're allotted a bit more creativity and flexibility. All in all, this is a GREAT camera to introduce a beginner, like someone just entering middle school or high school that enjoys taking pictures. This could be a great foundation, as it has been for me. ... show more

  • Awesome camera!!
Color: Silver
I purchased this camera on Amazon December 2009 and loved everything about it. Pros: Very easy to use and figure out the settings of this camera. the weight and the way you hold the camera is appropriate and does not feel like it will fly off your hands. The video option works great and voice quality from video are pretty good as long as there is not too much background noise. Camera images are great and you can create great effects with lighting especially at sunrise and sunset, you can't beat the quality for the price! Con: you've got to get a memory 4GB sd card like I did or at least a 2GB or even larger than 4GB....you can set up the settings so that you can store thousands of pictures without feeling the pressure of uploading your pics to clear the memory right away. And especially if you choose to make videos which takes more memory than pics. but this is like every digital camera and so this is not a real con! I am totally bummed since I lent my family my camera recently and it's now lost. I brought this camera on sale for $129 but now it's listed for $248. I will check the lost & found at the Museum of Science (where it got lost) to see if I can find it! If I can't find it I will have to break down and save up for this same model. I also have plenty of friends/family that has the same or similar model which they too enjoy. I did hear that the new version of this camera does not take the clearest pics compared to this model and it is much thinner and easier to drop. ... show more

  • Eats batteries like crazy after 1 year of use
Color: Blue
I usually love Canon products. I had a Canon prior to this camera, but decided to give it to my sister-in-law and get a newer version instead. The good: I love all the different picture taking options it comes with. It makes it fun to play around and the quality is just fine for the price. That was the good. The bad and the ugly is that currently (after 1.5 years of use) it eats batteries like there was no tomorrow. I mean, you will put in brand new batteries in it, then NOT u use it for 2 weeks AT ALL and then you won't be able to turn it at at all, unless you put in new batteiries. At first I thought , it was the crappy battery. But then when this happened again and again ( last time - today), I started to get really frustrated. Imagine: you put in new batteries, then you have your work week, then you go out with your family on the weekend, pop out that camera and it DOES NOT TURN ON. I guess a solution could be - take out the batteries right after use and put them back in when you are ready to use it again. Bottom line: if I knew this would happen before I bought this and despite all the things I like about it, I would have bought something else. ... show more
