My daughter LOVES this camera! It’s a big upgrade from her previous canon. The images are super clear and this R8 is very light compared to other cameras. The easy switch between photos and videos is a big plus.

I’ve watched a lot of review videos and they keep referring to it as entry level or not professional. But honestly this is a mind blowing camera. For me it is the best possible camera for what I do and I am a high end professional who does a lot of “active” and “adventure” shooting. This makes the size perfect. Carrying a larger camera just doesn’t work. I’m constantly blown away with the image quality especially in low light and the amount of details it captures. It’s very easy to use once you set it up how you like it. Obviously, the one issue is the battery. I wouldve taken a slightly bigger camera body instead of the poor battery life. So just make sure you get multiple batteries. ... show more

Because I ordered this camera in Winter, it has been hard getting outside to take photos. Once the snow melted and landscapes became a bit more photographical I got out and found out quickly how good this camera is. I gave this camera a four star review because the lens it ships with is not the best build quality like several other of their lenses not costing near or more than a thousand dollars. In this day and age, this should not be. The RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 is STM Lens must be opened to allow the camera to use it. Closing it is a bit sketchy as it might close alright and then it may bump and even stop retracting without working with it so the lens is not damaged in use. The lens works very well otherwise. Another problem is the narrow range of f/Stops on the lens. This is true of other inexpensive Canon lenses too. The camera and its lenses at this price point are NOT weather tight. Do not use this in the rain as you may well need to buy another one if it gets wet. The operational temperature range is very narrow as well. Narrow enough that I would not want to be on a trip and leave it in my vehicle during Summer and Winter months. The pictures are really great right out of the camera if you now how to shoot. I have photos that are stunning regardless of the problems above. I would have paid more to have the above problems resolved but, this is the camera I wanted because of the sensor they use is from a higher grade of Canon camera. ... show more

DONT BUY ——— I purchased this Canon R8 brand new in March of last year, expecting it to be a reliable tool for professional work. Less than a year in, the camera started throwing Error 70, a critical image processing failure that completely prevents video recording. I’ve tried everything: swapped to a high-end UHS-II SD card (approved by Canon), updated the firmware, reset the camera to factory settings, and even tested it with no lens or accessories attached. The error consistently appears the moment I hit record, and at best, it records 1–2 seconds before shutting down. This makes the camera completely unusable for any kind of professional video work. For a product in this price range, this kind of hardware failure is unacceptable. I expected better quality control and durability from Canon. Buyers beware — if you’re planning to use this for serious work, think twice. ... show more
