  • Nice lens, but may need to calibrate
I already have an 85mm lens f/1.8 but have been wanting something that provides a bit bokeh and better quality as well. I decided to go with this Canon f/1.4 and am glad I did. For the money, this is a nice lens, and I didn't really feel like I needed to shell out the cash for the f/1.2. I actually did a comparison by renting both the f/1.2 and f/1.4 and to me, the difference was not worth the extra money. Amazon delivered when they said and the product was fully boxed in product box with no damages. My only comment, the reason for 4 stars with the autofocus, is the lens was processing very heavy front focus. It took me quite a while to calibrate it, however once I had it pretty well focused in properly, I was getting good quality sharp shots with nice bokeh at f/1.4. Please note that the pics I have included were just messing around, working to get the autofocus calibrated well, so no real creativity - sorry about that. My assessment, for the money, this is a nice lens that is worth having in my inventory. ... show more

  • Great lens and a very reasonable price. Great on a full frame!
This lens is fantastic! I am able to shoot without a flash in conditions that I never would have considered before. While it is not quite as sharp as the F1.2, it is is a fraction of the price, and WAAAY lighter. It is a ton sharper than the F1.8 and significantly faster. Also, it is at a price range than us mortals can justify paying for a prime lens that may or may not get used all the time. I really like carrying this lens on my 5Dmkiii for a walk around lens. For a more technical review, I recommend looking up Ken Rockwell's review (google him). He highly recommends this lens and so do I! For background, I shot semi-professionally for many years, and not I shoot my kids and family outings. My normal rig is a 5Dmkiii with a battery grip and a 24-70 F2.8L and 70-200 F2.8L IS. ... show more

  • Wonderful
My first time using a fixed lens. I must say, the results with my 90d are impressive. I wanted the bokeh and I got it. I like the idea of fixed lenses and have spent a pretty penny for some other zoom lenses. It was refurbished but in great condition.

  • Buying refurbished can be scary …
Buying refurbished can be scary … But don’t let that deter you from it. Purchased a nifty 50 lens to add to my Canon camera - and I’m very pleased that I took the chance on a refurbished one to save a little money. My lens arrived packaged in the original box - looking very much like a brand new lens. Lens was free of any damage, fog, or photo issues. Then why 4 stars … I am all about giving 5 stars when it’s due but there was one small thing that makes me give this lens a 4 star. As great as this lens is the connection to my 80D isn’t smooth - there is a little connection pressure. All my other lenses seat and turn and click smooth - this lens seems have a little hitch in its smooth turn feel. It can be a little scary to have to make that turn with a little pressure so personally that’s why less stars. ... show more

  • Great lens!
If you're a serious photographer, this is a must have in your kit. I use it in crappy lit indoor gyms for sports. It wasn't intended as a sports lens, but to dial down the f/stop to 2.2 or 2.0 is a great feature. Just be careful, your focus is very fine at the f./stop. But if you get a shot in focus, the image quality is great especially if you plan to crop. Outdoors, it's fantastic for landscapes. You don't need to shoot landscapes at 1.4 or 2.8, so at f 5.6 or 8, it's a great picture. For portraits it's even better as you can get down to 1.4 or 1.8 and have great bokah. Happy shooting! ... show more

  • 2nd time’s a charm
I received this item damaged and it wouldn’t focus and the auto focus also didn’t work. It was also very stiff and hard to move the focus ring. I immediately sent it back and got a replacement from the same store, and now it’s PERFECT. it feels brand new and it works like a dream. It feels untouched, and the auto focus works very very well and fast! The replacement arrived very quick (within two days) -I was very pleased. I like this store , will be ordering other lens in the future from here ... show more
