Description

To experience the ultimate in wide-angle photography, the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM brings L-series construction and optics to the widest zoom lens Canon has ever made. With an expansive wide-angle range of 11-24mm, this is an ideal lens for landscapes, interior shots, and unique perspectives on subjects close and far. Its new optical design features Super UD and UD lenses that correct chromatic aberration. Four aspheric lens elements help to minimize distortion from the center of the image to the periphery and throughout the zoom range. A Subwavelength Coating (SWC) and Air Sphere Coating (ASC) significantly reduce flare and ghosting, while a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm creates beautiful, blurred backgrounds. For silent and fast AF, it features a rear focus system and ring USM, and can be manually focused even when in AF mode. It has a minimum focusing distance of 11 in./0.28m (extreme telephoto) for admirable performance and results even when shooting in tight spaces. • Superb specilty lens
Picked this lens up for shooting small spaces and was not disappointed. It made the Paris Catacombes look roomy. There is stretching along the edges that needs to be considered, especially if the picture includes people. This is a result of having 126° diagonal viewing angle--it is ultra-wide. Although great for small space I've also achieved some interesting effects shooting large objects close up. I would not consider this a general purpose lens that could be used everyday, but a unique specialty lens for small spaces or artistic shots. Image quality is what I expect from an L-series lens--top of the line. Zoom control is smooth, focus quick. Lens is heavier--to be expected with all the glass inside. Finding a place to put the lens cap can be a drag as, unlike a normal lens cap, you cannot just put it in your pocket. It goes on and off easily enough and pretty secure. Other than the size I have no complaints about the lens cap. ... show more

  • Outstanding!
I had been torn about spending this amount of money on a lens. I really wanted the ability to go this wide, for years. I'm very glad I actually pulled the trigger. The results are simply outstanding. Crisp, sharp, with great color capture... and not nearly as heavy as some have said. I'm used to the weight of a 100-400mm II, so the weight of the 11-24mm seems quite a bit lighter. I really underestimated how many applications there are for this lens. You can use it for nearly everything, as long as you pay attention to composition. It is a fun learning curve. My first thought was "Wow". Seems to be the common word when describing the results of using this lens. I really love the cap too. It is very functional, in providing protection, and easy to apply. With this lens, you are really only limited by your imagination. Better late than never. ... show more

  • A mighty lens with great capabilities and an equally mighty price tag.
After you swallow the price tag and get it out of the box you will see where the money goes. I have been using a 17-40mm for years on my Full Frame and for a crop body (APS-C and APS-H) also a 10-20mm and 8mm fisheye. The 17-40mm is probably my second most used lens. I have just returned from a project last week where it captured around 8000 of my 9500 images. I had hoped the preordered 11-24mm would have arrived before I left but it never seems to work that way. Putting a few hundred pictures through the 11-24mm I can say it has earned its place in the camera bag. It brings considerably more heft than the 17-40 - probably 2-3 times the weight. It is also deceptively large. But it works well at capturing a sweeping view and does so with a minimum of distortion. As of the time of writing this Lightroom does not currently have a lens profile available for the 11-24mm. Hopefully one will be available soon for this and the eagerly awaited 5DS-R - I anticipate the pair of these will be great duo! ... show more

This lens is just amazing! Can make corner homes look like they are hill top properties. Amazing for cityscape, landscape, creative perspectives. I use this lens walking around very often and has a permanent place in my bag. It is also great for photographing data centers where in a tight space you wanted to photograph. Also amazing for night slow shutter/bulb photography with big starry sky above night landscapes. After this I have the 24-70 then 70-200, the new 100-400mm then the extender and one more 180mm macro and I am set. Just need to find some good gelatin insert ND filters. I've seen some people say they would rather just have a 16-35 range, however on full frame I am most often in the 11-14 range, those are the most amazing shots! Before this lens the only other lens that came close to it was a Nikon 14mm from 30+ years ago that still sells more than $20k used! It takes special appreciation that Canon has achieved a rectilinear this wide! ... show more

  • Very little distortion for a very wide angle
My favorite lens. You can’t put a filter on the front of this lens but. If you have an Canon R5 and do long exposures get the Canon drop in filter Mount adapter with variable ND filter. Works awesome!

  • Fantastic lens for users who need it.
I'm not a pro photog and I don't make money from my images. I do, however, love to take photos and have a blast doing so. My images are used in marketing collateral and make the rounds on social media. For my needs, this lens is fantastic - I do architectural and yacht photos and that is where this lens shines. Should the average person spend $3k on a lens - no. If you are not doing architectural photos (especially interiors), don't bother blowing the money. If you do have need for a good architectural lens, this is fantastic. Holy wow is it wide. You will notice that things nearest the edges to get stretched - that's how perspective works. Build quality is excellent - it's a major lump of glass. If you're looking for filters for it, stop wasting your time. The front lens is radiused and will not accept typical filters. ... show more

  • I bought 2 of these!
This is my new GO TO lens for creative interiors. Ya it works great outdoor for pano shots, but I mostly stitch panos from 100mm or longer lenses now, so this is not nearly as cool as it would have been before stitching software was decent. But for interior shots with vertical lines perfectly straight - this is perfect! The CA is very well controlled - much better than the fish eye zoom but not as well as 16-35 f4. This lens is HEAVY - although it is part of my 'small' travel kit (11-24, 24-105, 100-400) it weighs as much as 70-200 f2.8 and is wider than that lens. This is the main problem with this lens, it's not very compact for an f4 lens and the front element is huge and can not be covered with a filter for protection. But these are small problems once you see the images that can be created through this lens. ... show more
