I start this by saying I live in a warm climate and I use this for a family of 2. My gas flash water heater just went out and i received an estimate for 2100. I have a kid in college and a child in Europe I visit often. I needed a cheap fix and this thing is working my whole house. I time showers dishwasher and washing machine. Set up is a breeze. Two lines and a plug. Pickup a little hardware from home depot and your done. Less then an hr. Love it ... show more

Easy to install, just got it out of the box, put it in the space I needed it in, connected hoses, plugged it in, done. Used to replace broken water heater on RV.

  • Love these mini-tank heaters.
Style: 1.3Gal
To be sure we get instant hot water, I put a mini-tank under every sink in the house about 8 or 9 years ago. We love them and would never do without them again. Best and most cost effective way to get really instant hot water for hand washing, dishes, laundry sink. Only problem is they only last about 6 years or so, so you have to replace them. After about 6 years they begin to leak very slowly underneath. I installed mine sitting in cheap plastic storage tubs under each sink. Use a $10 water alarm in the tub to get early warning of a leak. You have to buy a size and brand that has shape and dimensions to fit under your sink and drain pipes, so plan carefully. I have several different brands and they all leak eventually. But for 6 years you get wonderful warm or hot water to wash your hands in without waiting forever. I've had this exact heater before (except a different brand name) and it has worked very well. Each heater only adds a dollar or two per month to your electric bill. ... show more

  • It gets the job done!
Style: 2.5Gal
I was tired of waiting for the hot water to reach the faucet in our master bath in order to wash my hands in hot water. Because I now get hot water right away, I can wash my hands in a fourth of the time it used to take. I installed this unit in the cabinet below one sink. We have dual sinks with drawers in-between. The unit just barely fits between the existing plumbing, the sink, the wall, and the drawers. If like me you don't not have electrical below the sink, installing this unit will require some electrical work in addition to the plumbing. Because the water inlet and outlet did not match my faucet valve plumbing, I ended up going to two hardware stores to get the plumbing I needed to finish the job. This was further complicated by the fact I was connecting it to two faucets, the second of which an extension water line. I was fortunate that there was already a GFI electrical outlet on the wall next to the sink. I was able to drill a small hole in the cabinet under the sink directly below the outlet and then fish some 14-2 cable down the inside of the wall in order to add an outlet. As another reviewer noted, the power plug on this unit is pretty short, so an electrical outlet must be installed right next to it. One minor detail that I did notice with this unit is that the temperature of the water can vary several degrees due to hysteresis in the mechanical temperature control. I would have preferred a solid state temperature controller that could heat the water to a more consistent value. The current controller is certainly adequate, and can be set for very hot water -- it is just that your hot water will not always the same exact temperature each time you use it, depending on how recently the thermostat called for heat. ... show more

  • Our home was built when home heating oil was around .25 cents per gallon.
Style: 4.0Gal
Our home was built when home heating oil was around .25 cents per gallon. There's a 60 foot plumbing run to our guest bathroom. I installed a 2.5 gallon unit on that line about 25 feet from the shower. It produces a nice 104 degree shower (the best temperature according to dermatologists) for about eight minutes. Give it 15 minutes to re-heat and the next person can have an eight minute shower. I was so pleased with that result that I bought the 4.0 gallon unit and installed it about 25 feet from the master bedroom shower. Similar result, 104 degree shower for eight to 12 minutes, but takes about 25 minutes to reheat. I have timers installed on the GFI outlets, that kick on for 30 minutes in the morning, and an hour in late afternoon. The days of 24/7 gas, oil, and electric water heaters may become a thing of the past if people get tired of looking at their bills in disgust. No, you are not going to fill your bathtub with 104 degree water in a few minutes, but who takes baths anymore? Who has the time? A very qualified DIY guy can plumb these and get payback at end of first year. Hiring the pro's (while recommended) may push that timeline back into the second or third year. It all depends on your location. In the end the wife's conclusion is most important... she gives it two thumbs up. Like me, she likes saving money while still remaining comfortable. ... show more

  • Water heater worked good, Freeze protection did not :(
Style: 6.0Gal
We purchased a 6 gallon unit for our food truck last June, it worked great for our needs ( June- September). Put our truck away for the winter months and drained all the pipes, seen the heater had a freeze protection mode so we left it powered up without draining it thinking it would be fine. It was not. Unit worked good until it didn't, still waiting to hear back from customer support but i would not recommend using the freeze protection mode! ... show more
