  • Very easy
I've had his for about 3 months. I just hooked up it all up this past weekend. It blew my mind on how it easy it was to set up, and how it worked. Very happy

  • Major improvement over previous versions
Im rather impressed. This is my 3rd unit from Camplux. The first one malfunctioned after almost 2 years. I could have fixed it easy but the unfiltered river water i run through it and the frequent use of 5 showers a day 3 days a week for 8 months out of the year, i figured id buy a new one (for comparison, my indoor conventional name brand water heater needs the elimant replaced yearly due to the water). Anyway, the second unit had improvements but again only lasted about 2 years, this time my fault as there was a suprize deep freeze that burst the lines (not normally a problem but i typically dont have water in it over the winter so my fault and user error). Anyway, the price has gone up nearly $100 from the first unit i bout years ago. Its well worth it though. The company has obviously listened to past complaints. If you call them it will go nowhere due to the language barrier but you won't need to call them. The unit now displays in degrees F rather than degrees C as was previous. They improved the flow switch (that was what failed on my first unit). They now include good brass hardware and all the adapters needed to hook to a garden hose or a standard plumbing NPT pipe. If you are trying to go to PVC you will still need to buy your own adapter but they are cheap unlike the invluded brass adapters. The gas line and regulator is of good quality, and they apparently now include mounting hardware for wood, drywall, or masonry, even a couple wrenches. The shower head is still rather cheap. I have heard people complain about it but i disagree. I think its nice they include one at all. Besides, if you get a high end shower head, it costs about the same as the whole unit. The cheap included head works just fine so who cares. Anway, im impressed by their improvements. Do not let the low price scare you. Build quality is not as good as a name brand unit but for a fraction of the price, it is far better than it should be and a no-brainer to me when compared to a $600 or even a $1k+ unit. As long as you dont let it freeze, it should last a long time and work extremely well. ... show more

  • Adequate Pressure needed.
These things are very good for most part. Easy to install and when they work, they, they work great. There can be some issues. I've owned two, the 4.6 gpm and the 2.6 gpm. I use is for an outdoor shower and tub coming off a 60 psi well system which was originally a gravity fed system, so I've used them both ways . The biggest problem is the sensors they use. The manual says that you can have as low as 3.6 psi and still function. That's just wishful thinking on their part. I've got a calibrated pressure gauge on my system leading to my shower, and anything below 20 psi will cause issues. Mainly, the sensor not registering enough water flow to turn on the Camplux, even though water is flowing. If you've got city or well water, you're probably good. If you're off-grid and using gravity, your psi better be above 20. The other thing that is tricky is the propane regulator. They include one in with the heater, however, my first one was defective, and you might spend some time finding one that is synced with the heater. Some of the off the shelf ones used for grill will not work due to the gas sensor in heater being somewhat finicky. So if the propane tank is full and valve open, and the heater sounds like it's trying to light, but still nothing, It's probably the regulator. Adjusting the gas will not help, because that's just for the flame height once it's lit. Like I said, when it works, it's great, but it might take some tweaking on your part. ... show more

  • Good Value for the Money
Overall, I am happy with this purchase, but it's a "value" purchase, so don't expect super high quality. Once installed, I find the pressure good and the ability to regulate heat and flow is very good. I use it on my outdoor kitchen and it feeds both the hand held shower spray for washing my dog, and I tee it into my outdoor kitchen sink. I'm very happy with the performance. For the negatives, the hand held shower spray is a bit lower quality, but you can swap it for one you buy on your own, which is not expensive. Also, you have to be very careful with the connections as they tend to leak. Pipe dope or Teflon tape is a must, but be careful you don't overtighten the water inlet as the connection is kind of weak and can break. The other negative is the battery compartment is good on the bottom, but it WILL corrode if left outdoors. My first one corroded out in a year, but I liked the performance so I did buy another. This one I have a waterproof cover on when not in use, and I have seen no issues. The bottom line is if you are looking for a high quality, super durable heater to function like your indoor water heater, this is not it, but that is not it's intended purpose either. It's ideal for a portable hot water source such as for RV camping. In can add hot water to an outdoor kitchen, and with care and common sense it is a great value to add hot water outside. Overall, I recommend it. ... show more

  • Works better than expected
Lost power for a few days and had no hot water. It was mid 30's just above freezing out. I set this up on my deck and ran a 50' hose from the outdoor spigot (with extremely cold water), and another 50' hose to my bathroom shower. The water heated instantly, and stayed a consistent temperature indefinitely. My wife, son, and myself all took showers that totaled approximately an hour of nonstop use. Water pressure & volume were same as the real shower, but this actually stayed hot the entire time, vs running out like a normal tank. I went with this larger size because I didn't quite believe how efficient it would be in very cold weather, but it preformed perfectly. I'm a little upset with the shower head though. It worked great the first day, but the threaded end snapped off the 2nd day. I'm still giving it 5 stars because even with the added cost of a new shower head, it's still worth the price I paid. If I have any other issues or it stops working than I'll update the review. ... show more
