  • Best backpack i've had
Color: Black
Very comfortable, 40 lbs feels like nothing in this. Distributes weight well. I use it for school and rucking. Sturdy construction and I love having a camelback accessible at all times.

  • Great pack - but consider a BFM instead
Color: Black
Prior to purchasing this pack, I owned a HAWG and a Sparta, but I wanted something bigger for weekend-length hikes. I felt that the BFM would be just too big for my taste, so I tried out the Motherlode. The five stars are for the quality of the product itself - Camelbak makes amazing packs! But - if I were to make a recommendation to buyers, I would consider a BFM instead - depending on your needs. The Motherlode is basically a stripped down BFM - it's missing the side water bottle pockets of the BFM, does not have the hefty waist belt and does not have the futura harness. The motherlode is a great pack for people who want to customize their side pack MOLLE (and of course the ability to totally remove side pockets), and don't care about the futura harness or the hefty waist belt. The BFM will be a better choice for people who are using this for hiking and that sort of thing. The harness system on the BFM is the best i've seen on a military pack - it is fully customizable to your torso size and the waist belt holds your pack weight a lot better than the Motherlode will. And the water bottle pockets on the side mean I don't need to purchase extra MOLLE packs for the side , which I'd be putting water bottle holders on anyways. When all was said and done, I ended up returning the Motherlode for the BFM, but I think both packs are great and it really depends on your needs. ... show more

  • Organizational overload!
Color: Black
Perfect for what I do! Fits a large 3 ring binder, rain jacket, snacks, all my EDC essentials, and a MacBook Pro. I keep my laptop in the back zippered bladder pocket for added protection from the foam lining and also easy access. Tons of pockets makes for better organization! I like that the space grows tall rather than outward so it’s more conformed to my body and more evenly distributed the weight. Great pack! ... show more

  • Almost perfect...
Color: Black
I've owned this backpack now for about six months now. I bought it to replace my smaller EDC the Camelbak Transformer (which I used for about ten years and it's still solid). I also use this on short and long hikes, trail running, and solo overnight camping trips. I'll start with the slightly annoying then the good: 1st slightly annoying thing is that the map pocket on the front of the pack is oriented on the left (if you're looking at the pack from the back) instead of on top like most of Camelbak's other packs. Since the pocket is a little deep I find myself having to turn my hand to reach something at the bottom of the pocket. It would be a lot more convenient to use the pocket if the opening was on the top. 2nd was the waist straps. While they are sturdy and well made I don't like the system they designed for stowage when not in use - which is a narrow pocket at the base of the pack. It takes more time to repack the strap than it should. This is something that the Camelbak Transformer did better with two small easy to pack pockets attached to the base of the waist strap. Lastly, I'm not sure what the small hard pocket in the reservoir pocket is for (I attached a picture of it). Because the new Mil Spec Crux sits at the bottom without the need to be hung it seems useless... Now the good...this pack, like the other Camelbak I own, is extremely well built. When you feel the pack, right away you know it's sturdy and solid materials were used to make it. I've had the full pack on me for full days of trail running and hiking and didn't feel sore or achy at the end of the day. I liken this to how well the pack fits on me. The hydration system is awesome and I appreciate that they included more drink tube exit ports. The lower ones work better when biking with the bag. I also like the small (not mesh) pocket in the main compartment which I use for a radio at work. Since the pack has antenna ports at the top of the pack I’m able to route my mic through there and attach the mic to a shoulder strap or the sternum strap for easy communication. This was well thought out. The four-zippered clamshell opening is awesome. It makes it super easy to pack and super easy to grab things anywhere in the bag when you need them. Overall I’m happy with this purchase and would recommend this pack to others. ... show more
