I normally use a 40oz water bottle. But the problem with that, is I do not want to carry it in my hands and any time I am thirsty, I would need to lug my pack off, set it down, get the bottle out, put it away, heft the pack back on and go on. This way I can actually walk and drink at the same time. So much easier on the back, shoulders and time. This bladder is well made and a perfect size. It works as I hoped. No bad taste. And I have only used it 4 times so far and filled it with 3L the first 2 times. The last 2 trips, I filled it with just a touch over 2L and it's perfect. I have been drinking 1.5 to 1.75L all 4 times, but if I were out longer, there's no doubt the full 3L would be needed. Therefore it is worth it's weight because you can put as little as .5L to 3L and NO need to start buying different bladders and keep upgrading or downgrading - what a waste of money. The only reason you would need another bladder/container is if you need to carry around huge amounts of water like 5 gallons or damage/lose this one. Whenever something does happen to this one, I hope they will still be making it, because this is the one I want to replace it with, period. I also bought the Excellent Elite Spanker Outdoor Hydration Backpack for 3L bladders of this size in OD. I am amazed that the bladder only has insulation on the tube and the pack isn't even insulated and the water was still cool after 4-5 hours. I am going to insulate the pouch the bladder sits in using aluminum covered closed cell foam. That should be enough to allow me to use it in the winter, as well as longer hot days. I also did a review for the hydration backpack. I can truly say this set is the best investment I have made for myself in a while. You already have an idea of what the Camelbak reservoir looks like but I decided to add a few pics of it inside the new pack. UPDATE 10/24/2022: I just found a seller on here who sells insulators for this reservoir so I am not going to do the DIY option I talked about before. UPDATE 09/19/2023: I am still very happy with my setup! The Camelbak and the hydration backpack are both still going strong. Not having a car right now, I take this with me whenever I go out.     • Great improved reservoir, same old hose
Overall great, the cap is more secure and leakproof than the previous generation. The handle is also more ergonomic when filling the reservoir. I dinged it one star due to the fact that the description states that it delivers 25% more water per sip. The hose mine came with is identical to the previous generation. My wife's Crux (sport) has a larger gauge hose and different style bite valve and shutoff. This is still a great product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a 3L reservoir. It fits well in almost all of my backpacks including ones made specifically for the previous generation mil-spec short 3L reservoirs, such as the USMC hydration pack that is part of the USMC FILBE pack set. ... show more

Haven’t used it extensively yet so the durability is yet to be determined but so far I love the design and camelbak has never done me wrong and I’ve been using their bladders for over 15 years now

    • Good replacement for the older 'Ambush Mil Spec Antidote' (if you have one)
I have an older CamelBak and the original bladder sprung a leak recently. I have the "Camelbak Ambush Mil Spec Antidote Hydration Backpack" and this bladder fits perfectly. It is the same size as the original. It says the bite valve provides more 25% water per sip - but it is the same as the one I had before. No big deal.     • Pictures slightly misleading, but it works fine.
The pictures make it seem like a hard-shell reservoir. It's not. It is a flexible plastic bladder. Works fine, but I thought it would hold its space in a backpack and it doesn't really do that.
