In search of a new coffee maker I found this one on Amazon for $50.00 ($249.00 retail) So after doing some research and checking reviews plus CR I gave it a shot. I've owned it now for about a month with absolutely no issues. It's a no frills basic well made machine that does a great job brewing coffee. The coffee tastes great, actually better than some of the more expensive high end makers I've owned in the past. The coffee is hot and I mean HOT and stays hot even after I add creamer. And I love that the warming plate stays on for 4 hours then automatically shuts off, or you can manually shut it off by pressing the brew button. I love the look of this maker very classy and modern. It's very easy to set up and operate and cleaning it is no issue. The carafe is one of the best I've used, absolutely no spillage when pouring a cup...None! I never use the carafe to fill the reservoir, I use a metal picture for that. The delayed brew works great with never an issue. And one great feature is that it only takes about 2 minutes to brew a pot! I'm used to 6-10 minutes. I haven't had an issue with the spring breaking off the filter basket as some have mentioned, though I'm betting it's when people use fresh ground coffee w/no paper filter (I prefer Maxwell House or Folger and use a paper filter) and they take the basket to empty it into the trash, they are hitting it against the side of the trash can to empty the grounds causing the drip mechanism to break. (Just my thought) Plus I'm very careful and take it easy when im removing and placing the carafe back on/off the warming plate and not just slamming on there which could also cause breakage of the drip spring and cap. For $50 bucks I'd put this maker up against some of the ones that cost two to three times more. I'm extremely happy with it! It just makes great tasting hot coffee and my mornings are that much better! What more could you ask for?

We had the cone-type filter coffee maker for many years, but it eventually broke down. We bought a higher end model of Mr.Coffee, but the brews were always harsh tasting. We came back to the cone type with this Calphalon machine and the coffee is nice and smooth again. It's a bit pricey for it's features, and I wish that it had an auto-off feature for the hot-plate warmer, but otherwise we are extremely pleased with it. It consistently makes good coffee. Max volume is 1.5 liters of coffee from 1 run. (10 cups), but it brews smaller amounts just fine. And it's brew time is quick, less than 5 minutes for the full batch.

Physically, it’s a nice looking and likely, well built coffee maker. It makes good coffee and relatively easy to clean. Making coffee of your preference in any new coffee maker is a trial and error effort. Once I got it figured out, I’m happy with the flavor. Before choosing this brewer or any other, you should envision where it’ll be placed and how you’ll access the water fill, brew basket and controls. I failed to do that. The water fill door opens towards the front of the brewer. If you place its backside towards a wall, filling requires moving the brewer to access it. With all its controls on it’s right side, your limited as to where to place it. Not what I wanted. It would have been better for the door to open to the rear for easier filling. There’s a beeper that sounds when brewing ends however it’s volume is so low, you may not even hear it unless your nearby. Not of much use but not really a necessary thing either. The hearing impaired may not hear it. The carafe pours great. Likely the best I’ve ever had. My major carafe complaint is the glass stains easily. Even with soapy hot water its difficult to clean. Vinegar workedba little better. Guess I’ll try some bleach but shouldn’t have too. It seems to be quality materials used but personally I think the manufacturer should have used better glass. My old, less than $20 coffee maker carafe was much easier to clean. As noted in another review, the carafe has a lip that inhibits you from completely emptying it and the reservoir water level is difficult to read. I don’t like these two issues but for me I consider them minor. All the above said, I’m keeping the brewer. It makes coffee I like and as of now, works as advertised. This is just my opinion with the goal being to make you think about some things that I failed to consider. All in all, I’m happy with it.

We love this coffeemaker. It takes just 3 minutes for a full pot of coffee to brew. It has all the other features of coffeemakers; timer, clock, etc. We replaced our XOX coffee maker with a thermal carafe because the thermal carafe didn't really keep the coffee hot. The hotplate on this does keep it nice and hot, but doesn't really burn it with bad flavor, although if there is still some coffee left after 2 hours, it does taste a bit 'old.' Usually, coffee doesn't sit that long, because we love the flavor of the coffee it brews. I use a fine grind, not quite the expresso setting on the bean grinder available in the stores that sell coffee beans.

This is without a doubt the worst coffee maker I have ever owned. The carafe is unwieldy, requiring both hands to use. The lid flops open while pouring, so you need an extra hand to hold it shut. But it won't open single-handedly because my thumb isn't long enough to reach the tab use to lift the lid (and I have large hands). The bottom of the carafe is glass, but the upper body is all plastic. The water tank is filled by opening a cover on the top-left of the machine, lifting up and to the right. This means you have to use your left hand to fill the machine. The pot goes into the right side of the machine for brewing, so you use your right hand to put it in place. I'm not sure what the issue is, but I haven't figured out how to fill the tank from the carafe without splashing water down the front of the machine. It also spills coffee down the side of the carafe when filling cups, so it's just a poor design. The filter cup takes cone filters, but just seems to be slightly the wrong shape for them. I generally just mash the filter in place until it stays. The filter cup swings out to remove and replace filters and coffee, and it works well enough otherwise. The only good thing about the machine is the large lever-like buttons used day-to-day. They're satisfying to operate and hopefully are waterproof against all the spillage. On the other hand, the buttons used to set the time are cheap surface mount, and I doubt their longevity. The LED display is easy to read, but it's right in the path of spillage so again I expect a short life. One last thing: IT IS BIG! Double check the dimensions and make sure you have enough counter space. It won't fit under my cupboards (and fills from the top anyway), so it sits right next to my stove, splashing water and slopping coffee all over the counter.

My old $20 wally world coffee pot finally bit the dust and I decided to get a "GOOD" coffee pot. This coffee maker does make good coffee and fairly quickly. However, there are a few things that don't work well. First, most people are right handed, so the lid for the water fill opens up right in the way of a right handed user. Second, the carafe is hard to empty completely without turning it completely upside down and shaking it. Third, the markings on the side of the carafe are hard to see when filling with water. Fourth, the brew cycle is considerably more noisy than my previous coffee pots, which is ok I guess since the ready chime is so soft. At least I know when the cycle is complete. Small matters all of them for sure but I expect a coffee pot costing $130 to have been better thought out for usability.

Simple intuitive settings *5. makes good coffee Cons: None I have gone through many coffe makers they all had a weakness. Usually a spilling carafe. This one is by far the best one yet. It’s a very good machine priced very fairly. I like it’s sideways design because it intrudes less into the counter space. I’m sticking with this one. It’s great

The coffeemaker looks great on the kitchen counter and makes very delicious coffee. A bit pricey, but it makes the best coffee of any maker we have owned. Don’t try to set the time while the coffeemaker is brewing ‘water’ for the initial cleaning......I should have read the instructions! The carafe has a ‘flap’ lid and not one you have to ‘pry off’ to fill with water. It sits sideways on our counter, so make sure you have the sideways clearance. Very pleased!
