I purchased this California Air compressor based on previous experience with the same brand compressor that a friend has had for nearly 8 years. He has had zero issues with his. He drains his every couple of days and blows out the intake filter periodically. That's it. We are building our own house and I'm about to start installing our tongue & groove walls and trim. This compressor is perfect for our needs as it is very quiet and light weight. Don't let it's size fool you as it's a beast and keeps up with air demand perfectly. Just a couple of tips: I mounted my compressor to a small, rolling dolly to easily maneuver from room to room. At the end of each, I hold my air tool upside-down and put a couple drops of 3 In-One oil in the inlet connector and cycle the tool a couple of times to get the oil inside the tool. Doing so helps to eliminate a lot of jams and too, it prolongs the life of the tool. This compressor has been one of my best purchases and I cannot say enough good things about. If you're on the fence about purchasing it, I would say go for it. You will not regret it. ... show more

A very out standing compressor Very quite. I was amazed how quite. My old unit was a dewalt 72 dei the new one says 60 dei . Side bi side the sound is 1/3 and very smooth runing. Do not hesitate to buy this unit! Very pleased!

It’s quiet, lightweight, and meets all of my needs in my home garage / workshop environment where I use it frequently. I have it on a custom-made stand with a 3/8” 100ft retractable air reel mounted underneath it. The hose reel connects into one of the compressor air outputs – and I have a coiled air compressor hose connected into the second output for quickly grabbing and using air around my adjacent work benches. (See Compressor Set-Up pic). I had no hesitation buying this 4610AC as a direct replacement for my original 4610A. It’s marginally more expensive to buy the “A” (Aluminum air tanks) than the “S” (Steel air tanks) but the weight difference makes it more than worthwhile to do so. I will use the frame and air tanks from my original 4610A to add a further 4.6 gallons of air capacity to my set-up as and when needed. I attach a couple of pics showing how this arrangement can work. Those additional bare air tanks can be used in several additive and optional ways in future when a larger reserve air volume is needed. The two bare tanks can even be charged and then easily transported indoors for the odd occasion when I just need a small volume of air to blow something out in the house. Sort of bought on accident and tried to reverse the purchase but glad Amazon was unable to cancel 20 minutes after purchase. Much quieter and lighter than the Hitachi it replaces. I like that it has quality hardware and two outlets. I do however find that the on switch is a little primitive and cheap and a bit difficult to apply versus some other kind of switch. ... show more

Great compressor, very quiet plenty of volume, quality control missed this tube kink, hence three stars, I shouldn’t have to repair a brand new piece of equipment, for others this would have resulted in a return and waiting for another to be shipped, step up your QC, blurry picture but the black plastic coupling tube was too long and shouldn’t have been installed, must have been a Friday or Monday, assembler couldn’t take the time to cut the plastic tube for a proper fit and no one caught it, sad…. ... show more

This is the second California Air compressor I've purchased over the years. The first was a 10gl upright. While quiet and reliable,the build quality is horrible...and that's putting it lightly. I decided after 5 years with the last one (which is still going strong - after multiple repairs) I'd chance it again in hope's the quality has improved. This time I went with the 4gl aluminum hotdog. Out of the box it was surprisingly light. Set up took merely seconds. Install the muffler, plug it in! This one is even quieter then my other. Build quality is good on this model. Also keep in mind this model does not have wheels. Which was a major issue with the 10gl. So here's my deal with Cal Air. No doubt quietest AC on the market. They look really high end. The motors are incredible and very reliable. The rest of the package leaves a lot to be desired. Worst of all...customer service and the way you have to go about purchasing to replace a part is absurd and tremendously frustrating. I'm hoping for better results with this little 4gl.? So far so good. I did replace the couplers and hoping this mandrel doesn't split like the last one. Also hope the muffler holds up better then the previous model? I'll do an update in the following months. Stay tuned. I do recommend at this point. Update ; I have had this compressor for a little over a month. Literally have less then 5 total hours on it. Already broke. One of the supply lines to the switch box snapped off, leaving the remaing thread in the hole. Its in a very difficult place to access. To repair I will either have to replace the whole switch and all the part that go with it, or try to find some way of reading out the remaing threads. To say I'm frustrated would be an understatement. This company is something else. Make excellent pumps then outsource the rest of the build to shit manufacturing facility. Makes no sense. I'm going to fix this pos, sell it and the other one and find a brand that stands behind their products. Unbelievable. Get your shit together CalAir. Lost another customer, might ask yourself how many lost clients that makes? I do not reccomend this product. Makita makes a quiet compressor. Anything better then having to deal with this crap. ... show more
