The CALIFORNIA AIR TOOLS 4610AC Ultra Quiet & Oil-Free Air Compressor is designed to be one of the quietest air compressors in the industry having only 60 decibels of sound. The powerful 1.0 HP (SP-9413) motor operates at only 1680 RPM creating less noise and less wear. The "New" SP Series of Ultra Quiet Air Compressor Motors have been designed to increase duty cycle and allow for longer continuous run times. The Oil-Free Dual Piston Pump System is engineered for high performance and durability. The CAT-4610AC Air Compressor has a Oil-Free Dual Piston pump designed to have a life cycle before wear of 3000 Plus hours compared to other comparable air compressors with life cycles of 500 hours or less. The Oil-Free pump allows for use in a variety of temperatures and uneven terrains. The 4.6 Gallon Aluminum (Rust-Free) Air Tank is Lightweight (45.5 lbs) and very easy to transport. After one month of use I can say that I am very pleased with this compressor especially at the price I got it for here, which was $238 with tax. It is, as advertised, ultra-quiet, even quieter than the little Senco hot dog compressors. It also draws less current when running compared to other compressors of a similar size and is quite a bit lighter than other two tank compressors. We will see how long it holds up but it seems very well built. I do finish work and we are currently finishing the first of three large houses. This compressor is usually driving two or three brad and/or finish guns all day long and seems to easily keep up with the demand, recharging quickly enough to prevent the pressure drop that happens with other compressors when firing a lot of nails rapidly. You don't have to wait for this compressor, which is good since you often can't even hear it. If you are a professional and looking for a new compressor for your finish crew, one that can keep up and that you don't need to hide in a closet because of the noise this is the one you should get. ... show more

Compressor. they are the brand that I prefer due to their dependability and performance to noise ratio. it is worth spending the extra money on a quality tool if you use it day in day out and rely on it to put food on the table. After working with one of these, the louder compressors will just become irritating to you with the noise level they run at. the California air tools can be ran inside your clients house with no complaints of noise, conversating next to the tool while its running is not an issue. recommended for carpenters and professionals as well as DIYers. 5 stars. ... show more

My wife does stapling with it and her hearing was damaged by the older noiser machine in her sewing shop. no more. What a relief not to fight the noise all day. It’s quiet, lightweight, and meets all of my needs in my home garage / workshop environment where I use it frequently. I have it on a custom-made stand with a 3/8” 100ft retractable air reel mounted underneath it. The hose reel connects into one of the compressor air outputs – and I have a coiled air compressor hose connected into the second output for quickly grabbing and using air around my adjacent work benches. (See Compressor Set-Up pic). I had no hesitation buying this 4610AC as a direct replacement for my original 4610A. It’s marginally more expensive to buy the “A” (Aluminum air tanks) than the “S” (Steel air tanks) but the weight difference makes it more than worthwhile to do so. I will use the frame and air tanks from my original 4610A to add a further 4.6 gallons of air capacity to my set-up as and when needed. I attach a couple of pics showing how this arrangement can work. Those additional bare air tanks can be used in several additive and optional ways in future when a larger reserve air volume is needed. The two bare tanks can even be charged and then easily transported indoors for the odd occasion when I just need a small volume of air to blow something out in the house. Super quiet, but that's why I bought it. Well packaged, it survived intact as I watched the UPS man roll it out the door of the truck (yes, he rolled the square box up the aisle and was end-over-ending it down the stairs when I told him to stop and I would take it from there). At roughly 45lbs, it's not heavy, but still not light; however, definitely light enough to carry out of a truck. Would be nice to see an aluminum frame for even more weight savings. The on/off switch is not readable unless you have a clear angle as it's black on black. I simply wrote on/off with a white marker to make identification quicker, especially in low light. Because of the small capacity it took some time to fine adjust the regulator to (110psi max) without going below. Once I found it, I marked the spot as a reference. I was easily able to adjust the low limit switch to 95psi (factory appeared to be ~85psi) to ensure my nailer didn't fall below minimum. Finally I don't get interrupted by the compressor, and the baby can still sleep when I work inside. For reference, I replaced a bostich pancake with this unit. I swear the bostich was louder than my 5hp shop compressor. This compressor is being used for nail guns only. You could fill tires and do the occasional blast of air, but capacity is lacking for any flowing air application. ... show more

Wow just wow. If you have ever had a run of the mill air compressor and are tired of the loud and obnoxious sound that it produces then this is the best thing you'll ever buy. I have had a 30 gallon oil-less 2.6hp craftsman and it was loud as could be, in the 95 to100db range and if you used it for any extended amount of time it was unbearable in the garage. I got a 5hp 80 gal oiled and it was better but it was still loud and the sound was much lower toned so it was more tolerable. But when i needed a smaller one and stated doing research and California Air Tools kept popping up as the one to go with due to its quietness compared to all the others. I have a friend with a porter cable 6gal for $99 and it seems to be the one that everyone buys, it is loud @85-90db but face it most compressors are and that is what is to be expected. I almost pulled the trigger until i saw this one as an amazon open box for $120 and thought id give it a try. I will tell you that i would happily pay the full price of $200 if i would have been able to hear it run before. It is as quiet as they say. You can have a conversation right next to it while talking at a normal level. The build quality is far above most compressors i the sub $300 category. ... show more
