Unit was double boxed with foam top and bottom and inside a plastic bag. No damage whatsoever. Assembly is easy (two wheels and two feet). Helps to have a #3 Phillips head screwdriver for the wheels. Would have preferred a hex head bolt, but no big deal. Screwed in the inlet filters (only hand tight), plugged it in and turned it on. This tool lives up to every claim, every promise and every hope. When I first installed it and experienced its very first run time I stood there laughing! It is so quiet! My woodworking shop is in the basement of my home, and if I forgot to shut down the compressor be fore going to bed it would wake us all in the middle of the night when the pressure had bled down. There is no such problem with this one for several reasons: + It holds pressure - does not bleed down, and therefore run, when not in use. + The tank capacity is sufficient, so it seldom needs to run even when in use. + It's quiet! When it arrived there was damage to both boxes (interior and exterior boxes). Upon inspection everything seems okay except one of the bolts that holds the wheel on is missing. It's not a normal bolt I can just throw in there, either.

This is my second CAT compressor, I like them for their low noise and good CFM per dollar. Being oil and cooling fan free, the alum heads get hot. I do not want a cracked head so called the mfgr to ask what the duty cycle or max head temp is. Nothing is published. They were very cagey and said "if you run it for an hour let it rest for 20 min". So 100% duty for an hour? No, they later said "70/30 is the max but we recommend 50/50". Given that I've seen some people complain of cracked or warped heads, one would really like to know. I am going to use common sense but this bugged me a bit. That said, I like the compressor a lot. I'm not sure why upgrading to 240v makes it so much more expensive, but I did and I'm pleased with it.
