This was the 5th cadence reel I have bought. I now have two vigors and three essence reels in left and right hand retrieve and different ratios. Out of the box they a very good, but not quite as refined as an SLX. Meaning the bearings on the cadence reels have to be worked in a little bit to loosen up. On all my reels I will disassemble and add my own oil. Once I did this I had a $40+ reel that compares to the mid level shimanos. All of these come with carbon fiber washers out of the box and are very smooth. The cast control is perfect and adjusts just as well as any other reel I have had and comes with the bonus of not having to remove anything and flip magnets. If there is a downside compared to what some folks feel is important, it’s the composite material body. For me, this is more of an upsell feature than a critical feature for my fishing. I use the Cadence vigor reel for frogging and punching and have zero issues with flex or roll of the reel. Is there a chance that a composite body reel could twist and crack, I’d say about a snowballs chance if the reel is seated properly and secure. Even if these are used for steelhead and smaller salmon I would have no problem using them for side drifting, trolling plugs, or back bouncing. Bottom line, my opinion is these are better than the JDM shimano reels like the bass rise or bass one xt out of the box. After I remove the spool and add the oil I like and break those bearings in, it’s just as good as an SLX at 1/3 the price. If you want to try baitcasting then these are your reels because it won’t break the bank and you will not need to upgrade. WOW! I waited a few fishing trips to write a review. I am SUPER impressed with this reel. I've purchased Lew's for many years and never thought I'd switch... Until I bought this Cadence CS5 3000! It's super lightweight, yet durable and I love love love the drag set! It's literally twice as good as Lew's at a fantastic price. I caught this 5 lb largemouth off my new Cadence, and the drag worked amazingly well! So I bought another one for my secondary rod. I use a carbonlite rod from Bass Pro Shop, so the combo is super light for all day fishing! Fits my hand like a glove. I recommend the 3000 for bass fishing. I put 16lb Stren Magnathin (12lb diameter) on it and it casts like a champ! Not a single twist in the line so far. So glad I found this reel! Thanks Cadence (made in the USA)! Done with Lew's. I bought this reel last year bit never had the opportunity to use it. Took it to the Keys this weekend and the internals failed. Edited: I think I figured out how it broke and believe it is reparable.

Out of all my fishing reel combos, this reel is about the lightest. I do have smoother operating reels, but they are heavier. I matched this reel up with a $9.00 Berkeley Lightning Rod from good 'ol Wal-Mart (on-sale). I also use 15lb Power Pro braid with this combo. I've been able to catch some pretty nice Peacock and Largemouth Bass using this setup. Overall, a good reel for the money. Update 3/22: I had some issues with the reel, specifically the drag. I stopped using it because my line snapped on me 3 times going after some big largemouth. After going back and reading some other reviews, and visiting the Cadence website, I decided to contact their customer service over the issue I experienced. Cadence offers a year warranty on the products that they sell. Within a week I received a replacement, and I could not be more happier with the reel! All I can say is that I believe that Cadence stands behind what they sell. I would rather get this type of service from a smaller company, than to be left disappointed with some of the other larger fishing outfitters out there. For the money, you would be hard pressed to find better service and quality! ... show more

I’ve now bought two of these bait caster reels and they both have come broken, one had a tensioner lever broken off and the other the mag brake lever to keep it in place was broken and I couldn’t even spool the reel without it coming off. Definitely do not purchase these as they are very very low quality spend a few extra dollars to get something of better quality sure wish I did. ... show more
