Received it today and it was nicely packed and arrived timely. Not solid wood but if it were it would be five times the price! It’s well made and looks good. Good assembly instructions though some parts were a little vague (like orientation and finished sides) but it was easy to figure out. One small nail was missing but again no problem. I don't usually leave reviews but I was so happy with Bush Furniture's customer service and the bookcase looks great so I wanted to give their product a shout out. I actually received this bookcase with both side pieces cracked right across the middle. I suspect at no fault of Bush Furniture or Amazon, but most likely UPS, as I imagine this is a common problem with bulkier packages. Anyway, I was expecting to have to go through the trouble of shipping an 80lb box back to Amazon, but Bush Furniture had a flyer inside that asked to give their customer service a chance first if there were any problems. I figured why not, and I'm glad I did, as they shipped out both side panels promptly at no charge. You cannot take this kind of support for granted, even though many do, and I'm very happy they were willing to help out. Once I received the replacement side panels and assembled the bookcase I was very happy with how it looked. It's very easy to put together, and once it's complete it's very sturdy. For this price range, if you're considering this bookcase, I highly recommend it. ... show more

Buyer beware. I'll freely admit I should have done more homework, but when I hear wood "laminate" I tend to think of, well, laminated wood. This is pressboard. It's not the worst pressboard I've ever seen, but pressboard nonetheless. And the fit and finish is decidedly marginal. I'll keep it since it would be way too much of a hassle to return it. But had I known this is what it was I wouldn't have bought it. Certainly the description should have been much clearer about what this was. The review saying it can be bought much cheaper elsewhere doesn't surprise me. ... show more

attractive and sturdy Since the bookcase is not $800, they are made as you would expect. If there were a negative word spoke, it would serve to distinguish a person inexperienced in bookcases Wood glue creates a bond that only a sledge hammer can break

It is priced appropriate for the bookshelf. It is sturdy enough, good looking enough, and relatively easy to put together. The only thing that lowers the score for me is the back plate, which in my case was not cut square and I had to really work to get it to fit across the whole back. TLDR: the shelf is nothing special. Each unit arrived with quality control issues. Bush customer service is excellent and replacement parts were dispatched immediately. The only assembly issues I experienced were with the legs. Each leg is mounted with four screws from the bottom and a very long screw from the top. The top screws supplied for the front legs do not grip, they just slide into the holes, so I didn't use them. Arrived quickly, well packaged, no damage, hubby put it right together. I bought the Somerset L shaped desk last year with the hutch and finally decided to get the matching book shelf. The desk has the same sturdy good quality as the bookcase, and the faux wood grain is perfect for me. So glad they were still carrying this one.
