  • Sturdy and spacious Sturdy and spacious
Color: Vintage Oak
I ordered this desk and only 1 box arrived. Box 2 was nowhere to be found. Eventually I had to send box 1 back and order the desk from the website for $150 more. Had I not previously owned several Sauder desks, I would have went with another brand. I’ve owned three other Sauder desks and it’s become my go to office furniture over the years because they’re sturdy and reliable. It’s as close to hardwood as you can get without paying the price. All of the desks have been nice looking and solid so I decided to stay with the brand. The three other desks have since been passed on to friends and family due to moving or downsizing and they all love them. I ordered this desk because I renovated my office and needed a desk that was smaller than the previous L shaped Sauder desk that I had. The desk is well made and easy to assemble. I have worked from home for 5 years now so I’m at my desk for at least 40 hours/week, which I would consider heavy use, so I needed a desk that could handle it. This is my favorite desk so far because of the amount of storage space and it’s beautiful. I’m not sure what the hidden door on the front of the desk is supposed to be for, but I’ve stuffed the dozens of wires from my work and home computers in there so I don’t have to look at them. This is an upgrade compared to the other desks because there was nowhere to hide the wires. I have a 34” and 35” ultra wide monitors on top of the desk and there’s still plenty of room left. I took my time and it took about 3 hours to assemble. A few of the pieces didn’t line up so I had to drill my own holes. Unless they changed how it’s assembled, I’m not sure how it would take anywhere close to 8+ hours to assemble this. If you are reading this review and were as confused as I was, the drawer glides for the keyboard tray come attached together and they need to be separated. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not sure why these pieces came assembled as this caused so much confusion. Aside from the shipping (and price inconsistency) issues, I haven’t had a problem with it so far. Since it seems to be made from the same materials as my previous desks, I really don’t anticipate having any issues. ... show more

  • Beautiful and Assembly is Worth It! Beautiful and Assembly is Worth It!
Color: Split Oak
These desks are beautiful for a home or business office. Yes they are build-to-order and take some time to assemble, and before I purchased I read the critical reviews, almost all of which focused on assembly time and the many parts involved. However, I can say unreservedly that it is worth it... I purchased an entire home office suite for my wife and I, consisting of two facing desks, three bookshelf units, and a lateral file (see image). I was able to assemble all of these in about 4 days, did it all myself (I am 75 yrs old), needing help only to unpack the desk tops and flip them upright during the assembly. The instructions are written with PERFECT clarity and detail (unlike so many assemble-to-order products accompanied with poorly drawn pictorial "chicken scratches" for instructions). For those concerned with the many parts and box weights, please consider that this is how the producer can keep shipping costs down... the packaging of these pieces looked to me to be a fine work of engineering to minimize required shipping volumes for pieces that will fill up your room. The furniture is plenty heavy and sturdy, and the rail hardware provides decent drawer glides, although some easy and slight adjustments in the drawer faces may be needed after full assembly, since the drawer clearances are appropriately tight. All in all could not be happier with the product ... show more

  • Great executive desk Great executive desk
Color: Vintage Oak
This is an amazing excellent, stylish desk. Be warned - it comes in two boxes and each are extremely heavy. Giving it 4 stars only because it took forever to put together but the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I put it together alone but you really should have two people as you get to the installation point where you’re putting the pedestal bottoms onto the top. It has spacious drawers and built in file drawers. ... show more

  • Luxury executive desk A+++++
Color: Split Oak
This executive desk is amazing!!! The color, the quality, clear and easy to follow assembly instructions. It’s looks so good in our home office we bought 2 matching bookshelves and the file cabinet. Sauder really went the extra mile by calling and checking in on how we liked the product and even sent extra hardware for all of the drawers and gave us a discount on any future purchases. Hands down the best desk I’ve ever owned. ... show more

  • Worst desk ever
Color: Split Oak
Words cannot even begin to describe the frustration and hassle I’ve dealt with as a direct result of purchasing this desk. I’ve literally spent thousands of dollars on it between trying to have it moved and the movers absolutely destroying it during disassembly and reassembly because it’s too big to fit through doorways, having to replace the desk entirely, hiring another company to build it for me because I was too stressed and fed up to rebuild it myself and now the company I’ve hired to build the second desk messed it up too, the whole time complaining about how annoying it was that there were so many parts. Thousands of dollars down the drain and my desk is still not fully functional! Then when I contacted support the only thing they could do was offer me 20% off my next order (even though I’d get the same offer if I signed up with my email?) as if I’d ever order something from this company again. I had to go out of my way to ask for the numbers to different handymen in my area that the company has worked with before and deems reputable so now will have to spend even more money on this stupid desk. I honestly feel completely defeated and truly sick to my stomach and I hate so much that there’s nothing anyone can even do. ... show more

Took me a while to assemble but I've had it for a few years now and it's holding together nicely.

  • Directions were fairly good but I don't believe the average person would have ...
Color: Select Cherry
Where do I start? Lets begin with the delivery. The driver had a problem with the back lift so I had to help him get it off the truck .I believe it was 247lbs. That was after he had realized one mistake he had made. He wished me luck with my new 79 in. HDTV, I said WHAT TV!!! I told him it should be a desk .Ok Let me Check the truck .Oh here it is all the way on the bottom of the pallet that had boxes on top of it. As we were putting the TV back on the truck that was when the lift broke. So he gets the desk to the back of the truck and between me and him we got the TV up on the truck after he dropped his side and it hit the pavement but I don't think it was hard enough to damage the TV. Now we gingerly managed to get the desk off the back without damaging it. He leaves and I begin to open the carton only to find the top of the desk was damaged. Yes of course it was going to take another 7 - 10 days to have the replacement delivered. I couldn't put all those pieces back in the box and send the whole desk back or I would have. All in all the new top arrives about the 10th day and I began putting it together. Directions were fairly good but I don't believe the average person would have completed it as I am very handy . some of the screws were missing and a crucial bracket was not compatible with the predrilled holes so I went and bought a matching bracket rather than wait another week or more for it to be replaced. The finished product was not all that bad. The desk was pretty sturdy and it looks elegant so I might have given it a fourth star but with all the negative factors I couldn't. Good luck if you buy it. Do Not Attempt to put it together if you are not Handy. ... show more

  • Very Well Engineered and Manufactured
Color: Vintage Oak
This desk is a model of precise engineering and manufacturing. Everything just fits together perfectly. The final product is beyond sturdy. Great reinforcement throughout. Instructions are very precise and well-illustrated - pay attention to them. The desk was ordered for Christmas, but the order fell through the cracks. Amazon redid the order to Sauder and, well, it'll be a late Christmas, early Valentine. Everyone was courteous and Amazon made a generous "Sorry" gift to my account. Get the delivery guys to put the two boxes where you're going to build it. HEAVY. Build it where you're going to use it if you can. Here are some hints on the building: 1. You know the carpenter's maxim: "Measure twice, saw once." Well, "Read twice, screw once." Pay close attention to the directions and don't skip around (much). 2. Get a GOOD #2 Phillips screwdriver. Make sure the tip is sharp. You're going to use it a LOT. 3. Label everything. Some parts are labeled but many are not. Label everything and get it organized. 4. I defy anyone to put together parts K, N, and CC as described in steps17 and 18. I had to put together the three components to form a unit that I then attached to the desk with the 27G connectors. [NOTE: If you do this, lay out the K panels on the desk to make sure you have the correct sides facing outward.] 5. Be patient. There's a long chain of steps to putting this together. There are a LOT of screws and it is tiresome to be using a screwdriver, but a power screwdriver could tear up the board. 6. A BIG ONE: The drawers don't slide well? A lot of complaints here on that. I took that into account, noticing that the slides have a little room for up/down adjustment and the drawer sides can be adjusted in/out on their 6G, 9G, 10G brackets. Crank the screws down tight, but just tight enough to hold and let the drawer position the slides. Then tighten all the way. Adjust if needed. 7. The only thing Sader was missing was some felt pads for the desk. I don't expect any sliding around but still insist on protecting my floors. Altogether a very fun project. This isn't wood, it's particle board, so we'll see how it holds up to wear and tear. I think this will stand the test of time and it is coming in at below 20% of the cost of a similar wood desk. ... show more
