These desks are beautiful for a home or business office. Yes they are build-to-order and take some time to assemble, and before I purchased I read the critical reviews, almost all of which focused on assembly time and the many parts involved. However, I can say unreservedly that it is worth it... I purchased an entire home office suite for my wife and I, consisting of two facing desks, three bookshelf units, and a lateral file (see image). I was able to assemble all of these in about 4 days, did it all myself (I am 75 yrs old), needing help only to unpack the desk tops and flip them upright during the assembly. The instructions are written with PERFECT clarity and detail (unlike so many assemble-to-order products accompanied with poorly drawn pictorial "chicken scratches" for instructions). For those concerned with the many parts and box weights, please consider that this is how the producer can keep shipping costs down... the packaging of these pieces looked to me to be a fine work of engineering to minimize required shipping volumes for pieces that will fill up your room. The furniture is plenty heavy and sturdy, and the rail hardware provides decent drawer glides, although some easy and slight adjustments in the drawer faces may be needed after full assembly, since the drawer clearances are appropriately tight. Very nice desk! It is very rich looking and sturdy, with amazing drawer space. I have seen desks of this caliber in furniture stores for 3 to 4 times the price. The catch is that you need to assemble it. The holes for cords were insufficient, so we added one, because of the proximity to an outlet. But it was not too difficult to put together, and well worth it. ... show more

This desk was scheduled to arrive Feb 12. It showed up when it was raining on Feb 6. We were close by but not home, no water damage to the boxes- they were wrapped in plastic. Cons: it took my husband & I 6 hours to assemble this. We took our time because we only wanted to do it once and get it right. Info: You have to follow directions and you have to be familiar with possible screw adjustments ( when it comes to making the drawers fit properly and evenly). We did use a drill even though it says not too, being very cautious not to get the screws too tight. The drawer rails are tricky if you’ve never installed them before. Pro: I love the desk! - well worth the assembly and money. The small keyboard drawer came with a huge flaw on the top corner that’s very visible when opening the drawer, I will be contacting the seller for a replacement piece. And I will update here. It is nothing anyone did but looks like a flaw from production. The drawer rails work great for us, we had one that was a bit stiff so we made some adjustments with the level of the drawer and screws. Works great now! For the door on the front we are also missing one of the screws for the hinge. Another thing I will contact the seller about. 2 hinges, 1 came with 4 screws 1 came with 3. Nice, heavy and sturdy. I’m about 145 and stood on it to get to our fan in the study. I would have absolutely paid $100 to have it assembled, if they offered. I’ll add pictures once I have my study cleaned up. ... show more

I ordered this desk and only 1 box arrived. Box 2 was nowhere to be found. Eventually I had to send box 1 back and order the desk from the website for $150 more. Had I not previously owned several Sauder desks, I would have went with another brand. I’ve owned three other Sauder desks and it’s become my go to office furniture over the years because they’re sturdy and reliable. It’s as close to hardwood as you can get without paying the price. All of the desks have been nice looking and solid so I decided to stay with the brand. The three other desks have since been passed on to friends and family due to moving or downsizing and they all love them. I ordered this desk because I renovated my office and needed a desk that was smaller than the previous L shaped Sauder desk that I had. The desk is well made and easy to assemble. I have worked from home for 5 years now so I’m at my desk for at least 40 hours/week, which I would consider heavy use, so I needed a desk that could handle it. This is my favorite desk so far because of the amount of storage space and it’s beautiful. I’m not sure what the hidden door on the front of the desk is supposed to be for, but I’ve stuffed the dozens of wires from my work and home computers in there so I don’t have to look at them. This is an upgrade compared to the other desks because there was nowhere to hide the wires. I have a 34” and 35” ultra wide monitors on top of the desk and there’s still plenty of room left. I took my time and it took about 3 hours to assemble. A few of the pieces didn’t line up so I had to drill my own holes. Unless they changed how it’s assembled, I’m not sure how it would take anywhere close to 8+ hours to assemble this. If you are reading this review and were as confused as I was, the drawer glides for the keyboard tray come attached together and they need to be separated. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not sure why these pieces came assembled as this caused so much confusion. Aside from the shipping (and price inconsistency) issues, I haven’t had a problem with it so far. Since it seems to be made from the same materials as my previous desks, I really don’t anticipate having any issues. ... show more

    • Very Well Engineered and Manufactured

This desk is a model of precise engineering and manufacturing. Everything just fits together perfectly. The final product is beyond sturdy. Great reinforcement throughout. Instructions are very precise and well-illustrated - pay attention to them. The desk was ordered for Christmas, but the order fell through the cracks. Amazon redid the order to Sauder and, well, it'll be a late Christmas, early Valentine. Everyone was courteous and Amazon made a generous "Sorry" gift to my account. Get the delivery guys to put the two boxes where you're going to build it. HEAVY. Build it where you're going to use it if you can. Here are some hints on the building: 1. You know the carpenter's maxim: "Measure twice, saw once." Well, "Read twice, screw once." Pay close attention to the directions and don't skip around (much). 2. Get a GOOD #2 Phillips screwdriver. Make sure the tip is sharp. You're going to use it a LOT. 3. Label everything. Some parts are labeled but many are not. Label everything and get it organized. 4. I defy anyone to put together parts K, N, and CC as described in steps17 and 18. I had to put together the three components to form a unit that I then attached to the desk with the 27G connectors. [NOTE: If you do this, lay out the K panels on the desk to make sure you have the correct sides facing outward.] 5. Be patient. There's a long chain of steps to putting this together. There are a LOT of screws and it is tiresome to be using a screwdriver, but a power screwdriver could tear up the board. 6. A BIG ONE: The drawers don't slide well? A lot of complaints here on that. I took that into account, noticing that the slides have a little room for up/down adjustment and the drawer sides can be adjusted in/out on their 6G, 9G, 10G brackets. Crank the screws down tight, but just tight enough to hold and let the drawer position the slides. Then tighten all the way. Adjust if needed. 7. The only thing Sader was missing was some felt pads for the desk. I don't expect any sliding around but still insist on protecting my floors. Altogether a very fun project. This isn't wood, it's particle board, so we'll see how it holds up to wear and tear. I think this will stand the test of time and it is coming in at below 20% of the cost of a similar wood desk. ... show more

This is a well-made product! The instructions and parts labeling were very clear. Every pre-drilled hole lined up perfectly. Every part needed for assembling this desk was included. It took us 3-hours to assemble the basic pedestal of the desk and then another 3-hours to assemble the draws. We're both in our 70s, so we don't move as fast as we once did. The quality of the wood is first class. I can highly recommend this desk to anyone. We would definitely order again from Sauder. ... show more

Update: The company was very responsive to email and sent me a new desk top with no questions asked. Received new desktp within a few days. Therefore, if you don't mind spending some time putting this desk together, it is a beautiful and sturdy desk for the price. I do not normally write reviews, but I found the reviews helpful when purchasing this item. I will start by saying once the desk is put togehter it is a very nice desk. It is sturdy and the finish is beautiful. Unfortunately, once we removed the one million pieces from the boxes, we realized that the desk top has a large crack/dent in it. It is impossible to hide and very disappointing. The boxes had to be damaged when removing all of the parts, so I do not know how I could even send it back. In addition, it took my husband about 6 hours to put the desk together and he is a professional. I cannot imagine someone putting this desk together that has no experience. It is a ridiculous amount of pieces and takes even more time to make the drawers line up at the end. Besides the damage, it is a pretty desk; however, putting it together is VERY time consuming. ... show more
