I have purchased, assembled and used a number of Sauder products over the years and have been very satisfied with the ease of assembly and quality. However, after a little over a year of using this bookcase to store books, the top two shelves have warped and the pieces beginning to separate so that in order to continue to use it I had to turn over the shelves (unattractive) so that the weight of the books would warp the shelves back to flat once again. We live in a northern midwest state - we have air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter so I don't think it's an environmental issue - I simply think that the particle board or MDF or whatever the shelves are made of is simply not strong enough to support full shelves of real books. My books are a combination of hard cover and paperback. The third picture from the left shows how I turned the shelf over to 'fix' the problem. ... show more

I've owned and still own a lot of Sauder furniture. In general, I find their stuff looks good and lasts well for the type of furniture it is. This bookshelf is the first time I've been really disappointed. There are two reasons. The first is that the fit and finish are not up to snuff. Specifically, some of the pre-drilled holes were out of position. This resulted in the exposed unfinished edges visible in my second photo and the gap visible in my third photo. The second issue is that I needed a piece that looked good from the back as well as it wasn't going to be positioned against a wall. That's why after viewing the "360 degree" view, I bought this relatively expensive unit. The 360 view gives the impression that the back of this unit is finished. It's not. My first photo shows the typical cardboard backing with unfinished particle board peeking out at the edges. If I'd known this was the case, I would have bought a cheaper unit. The fourth picture shows the bookshelf from the front. It looks good as long as you don't get close enough to see the exposed edges and the gap. All in all, not worth the price. ... show more

Good looking book cases and easy to put together. I have a lot of heavy books and the shelves are extremely sturdy. They've added a front piece on the shelves that prevents sagging which was a problem with earlier Sauder bookshelves.

I read the reviews and thought this would be a solid bookshelf. It wobbles, the pieces aren’t marked to put together, holes aren’t cut where they are suppose to be. The top has a chunk out of it. Piece are too short. I’ve added pictures. I want to return it, but how do you return something that’s put together. There is no way you could put things on the shelf and it hold up. The pieces are different colors and the hole plugs don’t match the wood. 2 plus hours of getting it together and it’s a real POS! ... show more

Ok ladies, follow the perfectly detailed and diagramed instructions (and I know you will) and you will have a beautiful piece of furniture at an unbelievable price (that's what I did, don't leave it to the guys). Assembled in less than 2 hours, and I really took my time. All you need is a hammer and a screwdriver I'd give it 10 stars if the rating went higher. Rock solid, doesn't look like the cheep veneer you see in retail outlets at more than the cost for less than 1/2 the quality. I have absolutely no complaints. I am an avid book reader, and proud to place my books within this piece. Excellent size for small apartment living. I had none of the experiences that anyone who gave it less than 5 stars did. This bookshelf will be with me for a long time, and it undoubtedly will last. The color I selected went perfect with my bedroom and living room furniture. Blends in and looks like a top of the line piece. Exceptionally well priced. Having tackled the 3 shelf, I'm now moving on to the 5 shelf Sauder bookcase as well. Which just arrived in record breaking time. Also ordered elsewhere Sauder dresser for my college daughter's summer stay. Sauder furniture is always well priced for the corresponding quality of items they manufacture. Thank you Amazon. You can't go wrong with this purchase. Bought two of these and love them. The packing is ok, so whether they get damaged before getting to you really depends on how they are handled during shipping. I could see how it may be easy to be damaged. That is the main reason I waited to get them when they were sold and shipped by Amazon. I knew if there was a problem it would be no issue. Luckily they were undamaged and quite nice. Did not take my husband very long to put together and everything fit well, not all boards were marked but it is easy enough to figure out using the pictures in the instructions which thank goodness he followed as it would have been easy to put things together with certain pieces backwards. I have the shelved filled with hard back books and there seems to be no issue with the weight of them. I actually just ordered a third to put in another room. ... show more

We ordered this bookshelf back in March and it just sat around forever until my husband decided to put it together the other day (procrastinate much?....LOL). The packaging was in excellent shape after he took it out of the box, he noticed one of the adjustable shelves was cracked right down the middle. I contacted Amazon who told me it was past the 30 day return policy so they couldn't return or replace it (totally understandable), but they directed me to the manufacturer, Sauder. I was absolutely amazed at the customer service from Sauder! It was a 10 minutes online chat with customer service. I gave them the item number, name, address, and phone number and they gave me an order confirmation number. I was told my replacement shelf will arrive in 4-5 business days! You can't beat customer service like that in today's world! So although I was disappointed that I received a damaged product, I am extremely impressed with the professionalism and customer service of Sauder. I look forward to receiving my replacement shelf. This bookcase is beautiful and will go great in my living room. For those who are upset that it's made from some "particle board", you get what you pay for. For the price I paid for this bookcase, it is exactly what I needed. It looks and feels like heavy quality material and I would definitely purchase again! ... show more
