Lifetime fisherman here in the Keys. I can afford higher priced tackle and bought this for the halibut :) - to use mainly for a light bottom rig. I have since boated some decent (15 - 20lb) grouper and it works admirably. It has held up to some big sharks, as well- along with a 32lb+ mutton snapper (yeah- that's bigger than the record, but I was by myself!), so it works. The only reasons it didn't get a 5* rating are because the free spool lever came unscrewed the first time I used it and fortunately fell into the boat. Once I tightened it, no more problem. The free spool also will lock automatically when the handle turns. That happened on a cast and a 5 oz. sinker smacked me upside my head. Surprise! Now aware, that no longer happens. This reel was a 50/50 for me considering the reviews but I said might as well It arrived perfect conditioned checked all the screws like other reviews mentioned all good it was greased up very smooth and although some say it’s not good at casting it’s amazing for me don’t have the tension knob to loose or you will bird eat pretty easily a 3 ounce weight gets me 50 yards out and when trolling be careful the handle has a tenancy of vibrating off other than that great reel brought in decent sized snook, blue fish etc would definitely recommend. ... show more

I bought 2 of these reels a year ago and already have to replace them both. The guide broke on one last week and the guides are loose on the other and doesn't cast right. I've always used the recommended line so I don't know any reason for either of them to break other than poor quality.
