The updated HACK watch features a Miyota 8S20-43A three-hand 21-jewel automatic movement with a 42 hour power reserve. The stainless steel case with a black dial and luminescent hands and markers also features a center track on the dial displaying 24H time. The screw-back case features a glass insert with the VWI printed logo. Watch features a domed mineral crystal, a green nylon strap and water resistance to 30 meters. This is my first mechanical watch and just received it today. I like how light it is and how it looks. The big question is how accurate it is and only time will tell. I have some militado homage watches. They are great but they are quartz with a vh31 movement which looks like an automatic . It is nice having a genuine Bulova hack watch. It has a picture of a soldier which is cool. The only suggestion would be to make it where you can go swimming. Also sapphire glass to prevent scratches. The Chinese Militado has both those features. I bought one of those too. I will see how they age. ... show more

    • Worth the money!
I was in the market for an automatic watch and decided to get this one. I'm very impressed. The strap didn't fit my small wrist so I swapped that out and everything else is good so far. Very accurate, it hacks as the name implies. I love that it has hand winding in addition to the automatic movement. Great combo. I typically like the backs on automatic watches to where you can see the internals, but in this case I actually like the design of the back. I like the theme of this watch in general. I don't mind the 30m of water resistance but I'll probably end up getting a Bulova Mil-ship one of these days. Comparing it to my Seiko5 SNK809, I think the Bulova is the clear winner and worth the money. The Bulova may not have a day/date display like the Seiko5, but the Bulova hacks and hand winds, the Seiko does not. That's not a big deal to me as I can easily throw a couple pocket calendars with my prep stuff. Speaking of prepping, this is a great prepper's watch. Mechanical automatic movement means no worries about not being able to keep track of time in an EMP scenario. The only concern in that scenario would be forgetting to wind it and losing track of time. Just make sure to have a G-shock in a faraday cage bag along with other survival electronics like a solar USB rechargeable hub/power station, USB rechargeable batteries, electric lighters, radio, etc. so you can reference the G-shock watch when setting the time. ... show more

I needed a simple but functional watch for travels that didn’t require a battery. This watch completely fit the bill. Well built, easy to ready, and water resistant. It kept the time quite well while wearing it in Africa’s bush. I was surprised at. How well it worked! I’d happily buy it again…but doubt I will ever have to because it feels solid and proved to be reliable ... show more

    • A nice, readable, rugged watch - accurate for its price
Even though I work in tech, I still like an old-fashioned mechanical watch. I think this watch is attractive in its simplicity - it is easily readable and it is not busy - it is not "too much" to look at. It is not too large in circumference. It is a little thicker than I prefer but still not too bad. This watch has more of an old-fashioned, rounded look to it that I like. Maybe it is how the lugs are configured? This watch is more accurate than some mechanical watches I have that I paid twice as much for. I found with my particular watch that it runs a few seconds a day slow when I wear it but it runs a few seconds fast if I leave it face-down overnight - it seems to balance out so overall I can go a surprising number of days - I think a week or more - before I feel like I want to reset it. And it has a "hacking" feature so it is easy to set to the second. The watch seems rugged. I have gotten conflicting info on whether the crystal is sapphire or glass so I don't know. I have worn it daily and I have not noticed any scratches. But my normal adventures are trips to the office or the grocery store and not, say, rock climbing. The lumen is adequate but not spectacular. This is one of the best options you will find if you are looking for a simple, inexpensive but well-made mechanical field watch. ... show more

    • Nice Watch. Currently Averaging Sub 1 Second per Day Variation.
Fantastic. After about a week of wear, it's consistently running about 0.25 seconds per hour fast. Or about three minutes a month. I hack it every morning to NIST, but it's nice to know the movement is so well regulated. I plan to have it a long, long time. Edit: We have settled in. She had been gaining 6 seconds per day, but a month and a half after the above review, she's averaging 0.75 seconds per day of gain. Wildly impressive for an automatic, let alone one in this price bracket. I mean, it's out performing watches that cost 10 to 100 times more. Will update if accuracy suffers. Or somehow improves. There's really not much more room for it to get better, but we'll see I've stopped re hacking each morning, instead, I rehack with a few seconds lag vs nist and will re hack when I've a few seconds gain vs nist. I wear it all day, no scratches or damage yet (Knock on wood). I take it off to sleep and have it rest Crown Up overnight. The approximate 15 hours of wear each day keeps it plenty topped off - I don't have to manually wind at all. I notice a lot of people looking at it. Looks great on a plain nato strap. ... show more

    • Know Your Water Resistance
Great looking piece and fit for a 7" wrist with the olive, nylon strap. The Amazon title calls out 'black leather' strap which once were shipped with this vet model when released. The strap shipping now is green fabric as shown. You can expect the movement from Citizen/Japan (Miyota 82S0) accuracy: around -20 ~ +40 sec per day. Mechanical watches are kind of drifty if you get my drift. The other field watch favorite from Seiko (NH35) has the same accuracy. Any drifting outside this range should be a concern. The other niggle with the Hack is it's a water wiener. The specified 30 meters, (30 ft.) is atmospheric pressure not actually 30' under water. They pressure test the seals to where they fail. 3 Bar rated watches are the lowest water resistance on the scale. These watches are designed for accidental daily splashes — a bit of rain or some light drops when washing your hands — but are not suitable for submersion in water (of any amount or for any period of time). That's right, your military looking 'field' watch is considered a 'fashion watch' with this rating. Not a shot a Bulova as Seiko and others have these water-resistant wimps. Just good to know they're not a good choice for car washing. One star off for that treat. The mineral crystal vs. sapphire may be intended. Saphire, though scratch resistant, can shatter on impacts where mineral won't. Some others are still preferring mineral for field flavors. So, she's a nice-looking, quality piece worth the price, but not a zombie fighting survival tool for the EDC crowd. If you want a 100m, screw down crown, survival tool that looks like a Hamilton Khaki, checkout a San Martin 38mm NH35 Retro Military Pilot. $166 dollars from China. Unreal reviews with a Seiko movement and sapphire crystal. I own both and the San Martin is a better daily beater by a long stretch. The Bulova is no slouch, just a tad water spooked. ... show more

What an awesome watch! This watch doesn't only look good, but it's also full of military heritage. Why buy a Hamilton Khaki for $700 if you can buy Bulova quality for about half that? As a disabled veteran, I really appreciate the Bulova Veterans Watchmaking Initiative. I'm enjoying this excellent watch and also supporting a great initiative. Also, this watch is a strap monster!
