My son gave me this watch on Father's day, though we had ordered it together here from Amazon some weeks ago (he wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted). It's a fairly large watch, but not overly large - and REALLY easy to read with older eyes. The polished stainless case with NATO band looks best IMO and the reflective case makes it seem a little smaller than it would with a brushed or black case. The Bulova band seems well-made is quite comfortable. I set it to WWV atomic time very carefully and so far in 4 days I can't perceive any variance in the time at all, even looking at the small seconds hand with a jeweler's loupe. Not even a small fraction of a second. Hard to say yet whether it's keeping time to within a second a month, but it's certainly on the right track. Update: Had it 1 month now and it's gained only about 0.5 seconds vs. atomic time. That's pretty darned good! I had heard the lume might not be as good as some other watches, but I find it every bit as bright as my Seiko Speedtimer and it seems to remain just about as bright as the Seiko by early morning before dawn as well. The sapphire crystal is thick and flat, with optically flat reflections, but doesn't really stick up as high as you might think by looking at closeup macro photos. Overall it looks and feels very right and balanced, and I've not had even the slightest trouble reading the time. There's a lot of contrast in the dial and hands. The chronometer functions all work great, and the pushers make a very nice tactile click. All in all, this watch is an amazing value for a good quality, durable, highly accurate timepiece with an interesting history as the second watch (beyond the Omega Speedmaster) to have been on an actual moon walk. Consider getting a Bulova Lunar Pilot before plunking close to the same money down for a plastic moonswatch. ... show more

    • Incredible Watch for the Money
I absolutely love this watch, more than my Omegas and more than my previous Rolexes watches. It has a few things that I would change but overall I think the design and engineering are really excellent. I purchased the Nato strap version because it was cheaper but in fact it It's the only 45mm version with a polished case, which I think makes it much less utilitarian and makes it look more expensive. I've seen complaints about this watch being too big. It's not too big, it's just too big for the people who make that complaint. I have a 7 3/4 inch wrist and it fits me perfectly . If you have a smaller wrist buy a smaller watch. This watch does need you to have at least a 7" wrist and also to have a wide wrist because of the lug-to-lug size. There is a 43.5mm version in two variants if you need smaller and they are stunning. The case is beautifully polished and I really like the unique style of the Chrono pushes. I've read that they were made this way for astronauts using thick gloves to make them easier to press but I like the way they integrate into the case better than traditional pushes. I also like the extra large crown which again makes it very easy to use. The crown has the Accutron logo. On my watch it’s barely visible - that’s the only manufacturing fault I could find. One complaint I have is that it is only water resistant to 50 meters. This might have been good for the moon but we don't live on the moon and it would have been easy I think to have a push in crown/pushers and have at least 100M WR. I never thought I would like a Nato strap. I've always thought “what's the point in putting a really cheap strap on a really nice or expensive watch?” But I'm surprised that this Nato is really nice. It has leather reinforced eyelets, a nice horizontal weave and it absorbs light so it always shows as really deep black. The hardware is highly polished and matches the case. Note that if you buy the non bracelet versions of the 45mm you cannot put the bracelet on it because the lug holes are positioned differently. I don't know what genius came up with this but it's really dumb. It doesn't bother me though as this Nato strap is so nice. The face is absolutely gorgeous. The crystal sits high above the case and some reviews say it “could” chip, but I've never heard of one cracking or chipping. It just adds to the beautiful design. The tachymeter is much higher than the rest of the face; it drops to a chapter ring which in turn is lower than the main body of the face and the sub dials again are lower than the main face but not as low as the chapter ring. The hands and sub hands and all printing are all beautifully white and cleanly done. It's a wonderful design really well executed. The only thing I would change is the 60 minute sub dial which I think is a little too small. The sub dial hands do not have a pointer at the end of them and so it can be difficult to see exactly what minute on the 60 minute sub dial they're pointing to. I would have loved a 12 hour chronograph counter instead of 1/10th Secs but I suppose that would have ruined the authenticity. I very much like the smooth return of the chrono seconds hand on reset and it must put less stress on mechanical parts of the movement than a hand that snaps back. Bulova call this movement NP20. I'm pretty sure it's made by Miyota especially for Bulova (Cal. 8136). That would make sense as Bulova and Miyota are both owned by Citizen. It uses a 399 high drain battery, perfect for chronographs. I believe this movement used to have a date and I can understand why Bulova took it off for authenticity and looks but I'm so used to having a date. So a few minor quibbles you get with any watch but nothing serious. How much do I love this watch? Well I've packed away my Omegas and I purchased a second Lunar Pilot. Nuff Said. Just remember your wrist size, especially the lug to lug measurement. ... show more

Bulova's Lunar Pilot has far exceeded my expectations in every way. I had been eyeing this piece for thirteen months now, and waited until the price was right and took the opportunity and I am so glad I did. For reference, I was considering a Tissot T-Race chronograph or a Hamilton Khaki for this quarter's personal acquisition, however after seeing this, and coinciding with the Artemis II upcoming launch, I decided to go with Bulova -- and I am extremely glad I did. I wanted to discuss how the package arrived fast, maybe two days after order, and came in very immaculate packaging. I've purchased watches significantly more expensive and Bulova's case and presentation has far exceeded literally every other box I've seen before. Upon opening, you can see the attention paid to literally every detail, from the packaging, warranty, instructions, and historical significance pamphlet inserts, to the box made of quality materials you can immediately tell that it is not your everyday Bulova quartz. My first hesitation was choosing a quartz movement over an automatic, however after having this for one week I am more than pleased and satisfied after seeing the watch in action. The watch itself came immaculate, and upon first glance, is literally perfect. The black within the dial can only be described as that of 'cosmic void'. The indices, bezel's integer seconds, and chronographic miliseconds are outright perfect. As a laboratory scientist, I of course took the opportunity to view the Lunar Pilot under some serious magnification, and here the precision with which this moon watch was made becomes even more apparent. During my work, I need to time specific biochemical reactions, and having a smartphone around is typically a no-no - thus, I have a decision can grab a stopwatch, strain to look at a wall clock, or, now, engage the chronograph with just a free pinky finger and be accurate down to one fifth of a second. Quite literally, I use the feature multiple times per day. The piece itself, wherever I show it, always happens to dazzle and turn heads. Showing off the chronographic features and explaining the historic significance of the Lunar Pilot series is always a pleasure. One thing I'd like to note, is that a bio lab isn't exactly the place you'd want to take an Omega speedmaster moonwatch, it's closest comparison -- but with the very accessible L.P. here it becomes a no brainer. Also, keep in mind that if the closest watch we have for comparison is a Swiss piece that costs ten times as much, I think we all can agree that the Pilot is definitely doing something right. After about a week of constant wear, I am only becoming more and more attached. I am quite satisfied with the size on my 7 inch wrist. With the strap it feels like just the right amount of weight. Personally, the only thing I wasn't to fond of was the fabric nato strap, however there are so many great options for less than 30.00 to replace it with if one feels so compelled. So far, I've tried black and white sailcloth leather and silicon/rubber composite and both ended up looking great, however I felt the composite strap was the best choice. The water resistance is nice, although I'd personally never get any chronograph wetter than a splash. The colors are so vibrant it's amazing. The lume is specacular, and gives a light blue, art deco-ish retro feel. The saphire crystal has made it through several events i was certain would scratch it, and so i'd say that the ecellent turtle style flat crystal is very resistant to scratches. The battery life is amazing here, and in my research i calculated that based on this unit's particular battery, one could operate the chronograph for 60 minutes over 1300 times before the battery gets near its end. The watch itself is a breeze to wear all day for it's dial size and materials used. It literally turns heads, and is overall so much more impressive than any type of smartwatch out there. Overall, I'd say that the Lunar Pilot, far exceeding my expectations, maybe even astronomically exceeding, has left myself as a watch collector, and everyone who happens to see it, very impressed. 5/5! ... show more

If you're reading this, you no doubt came to look at this watch on purpose. You are considering one of the historic NASA watches, of which this Lunar Pilot was one of the first. I purchased this during a Prime Day, when it was on sale and am so glad I did. Considering you can own this for a few dollars more than the Omega/Swatch Moonswatch, why wouldn't you? Sooo much better. The presentation via the unboxing was on par with watches that cost thousands more. No joke. I almost want to keep the watch in the box it came with, which btw has a felt bottom so it will sit nicely on any surface. The quality, fit, and finish of the watch is very impressive for the price. The case is polished and flawless. The watch face is very easy to to read and the lume is surprisingly bright. When using the chronograph feature, the 10's of a second chromo dial is a nice touch - spinning faster than your typical chronograph. The complication function is great. Being able to use a time is a really nice feature. 262 MHz quartz is very nice as well. That in and of itself is a great history with the brand. It's so easy to look at, and despite its large face size at 44mm it wears much smaller. It is a thick boy, no doubt about it, but not enough to make it clunky. The quality is excellent, especially for a watch priced like this one. (Sense a theme?) I was a little iffy on the nylon band, but it just fits the watch. With lug to lug of 20mm, you can go wild with additional straps. A red leather strap would look super sharp. All in all I'm 100% pleased with this purchase. This is my first Bulova, but likely not the last. If you are considering one for yourself, you will not be disappointed. Think of it as an inexpensive getcha by, until you can afford that Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch; the 'real' one, not the Swatch. :) ... show more

No, not really. It is a cool watch, though. Super easy to read. Looks like a Speedy with the exception of the paddle-style pushers. Case back is cool. Not your average quartz movement. Super, super accurate. Beats as fast as my heart after climbing six flights of stairs, only a lot more accurate...the watch, not my heart. Not like a meca-quartz, though. So if that's your thing, this isn't it. The band is, well, awful. Lug width is only 20mm, so it looks a little goofy. 22m would have been a far better choice. Anyway, replace the stock band with something else. Try to find a band that doesn't taper down to the clasp/buckle, and you won't notice the 20mm width. There is another version of this watch that has a brush-finish case and a nicer band. I think that watch comes with the fancy box and extra goodies. This one doesn't. Just a decent box, which will go in the trash...someday. Case is high-polish finish all the way around. I like it...you may not. Just so you know. Also, the crystal sticks out. Check out review videos...someone will mention it. It's sapphire, so I'm not too worried, but it looks kinda odd from the side. I have the Pagani Design Moon Watch (PD 1701), which is a Speedy homage with a meca-quartz movement and date. It's very nice, and less than half the price of the Bulova. They look very similar. I think the sapphire on the PD is better...double-dome with AR coating, I think. The PD is smaller, too, and comes with a superior bracelet. But, it's not a Bulova, and it didn't actually go to the Moon. So, there. Bulova (or is it Bu-LO-va) makes great watches. Not Omega or Tudor, mind you, but also not several thousand dollars. Wouldn't recommend taking it to the Moon, but it's probably good enough for daily wear. ... show more

    • Beautiful watch keeps good time but with some issues.
Smaller than I am used to wearing but very nice and attractive on my wrist. I love Bulova and have looked at the Lunar Pilot 6 hand watch for over a year. It seems to keep good time in general, however a con is this: some buildings mess with the accuracy to the point my watch has been 30 minutes to a full hour BEHIND . This isnt acceptable to me. Thats why only 4 stars. But that being said, outside my work location (a large medical practice) it is a stellar timepiece and I am keeping it. I have several other watches that i have no issues like i experienced with this one. The only other "con" is it came with a NATO band. It is functional but I am not a fan. I will be changing it out. ... show more

I’ve always wanted a watch with a story, something that’s actually been to the moon, carrying real history and heritage on the wrist. The Omega Speedmaster has long been the icon, but it sits just outside my budget. So when the Bulova Lunar Pilot went on sale, I didn’t think twice. I’m on the slimmer side, but with 7.5-inch wrists, I can handle a larger case and this watch wears incredibly well. It has a bold presence without feeling overwhelming, and it strikes that perfect balance between statement piece and everyday wear. That said, if you have smaller wrists, the size might feel a bit too commanding. Overall, it’s a stunning piece with a genuine connection to space history at a fraction of the price. ... show more

Having recently started getting more watches for a small collection - I knew one thing for sure, my preferred style of watch is the chronograph. With this, I wanted at least one really nice sample that only has an interesting pedigree and story. Of course, for me personally, that meant I gravitated towards legends like the Tag Heuer Monaco, or the legendary Breitlings; but especially the iconic Omega Speedmaster that became NASA’s Moonwatch. However ALL of those are so far out of my means that they’re just not feasible. This however, is. Sure, it was only by chance that a Bulova got to be on the Moon - but it works for me. An American legend no less. You get damn near everything that the Speedmaster can give, but without going into the thousands. On top of that, you get an amazing quartz movement that also won’t kill you come servicing time. I personally wanted the model specifically without the date function as I prefer the look without it, and although the sand blasted look would’ve been more fitting, the polished steel is still very handsome. The strap fits well, without too much tail and looks great with it. Also for its size, it doesn’t feel all that heavy. The face is easily read, even with all the details. As a chronograph everything is super smooth, and the buttons have a good feel to them. Just word of caution though in fairness - while I love this thing and how it looks on me. This is NOT a small watch, and there’s not curvature on its underside- so it sits flat, if you have larger wrists it’ll naturally just sit better. For those with smaller wrists, this might be tricky.
