The media could not be loaded. This watch is not only strikingly gorgeous, but it is also an incredibly impressive piece of precision machinery. I think it's really important to understand that what you're looking at is not a quartz watch. There is no battery. This is made in the traditional mechanical style that has been used by watchmakers for centuries. This particular design is referred to as an automatic because it is self-winding. It primarily runs from the tension of a spring and features dozens of tiny gears, levers, springs, and balances. It winds itself using the motion of your wrist as you wear it. It's an incredibly impressive piece of craftsmanship. If you look at the video I included, the part that you can see moving is called the balance wheel. That is the heart of the watch, the part that actually regulates the time. This model is the Regatta, one of Bulova's most iconic watches. It's instantly recognizable thanks to the distinctive triangular lugs (the part where the band joins the case) and the crown (the part you wind) being set at the two o'clock position. The case is stainless steel with a sapphire crystal in front and back. The face is mother-of-pearl with nine diamonds serving as hour markers (the missing three are replaced by a cutaway). The automatic movement is from Miyota's flagship 9000 series and features 24 jewels. The rear of the watch is fully exposed, letting you see more of the watch movement including the rotor, which is the part that swings around and transfers your wrist motion into mechanical energy. I would absolutely recommend this watch to anyone who is looking to pick up a serious timepiece. The classic Bulova Regatta styling is sleek and gorgeous, drawing attention without being flashy. But you are getting so much more than style here. The amount of work and craftsmanship that goes into a watch like this is simply stunning. This is a true example of artisanry, something to be cherished and passed down. It's also worth noting that among watch collectors, the Regatta is general considered to be an exceptional value because the quality of the components is competitive with watches costing two to three times as much. One last personal bit: I gave this to my wife as a gift. It has genuinely given us both joy every day since to look at the little cutaway and see the balance wheel flutter back and forth. My wife absolutely adores this watch. The style is simple yet elegant. It’s the perfect size for a dainty or regular sized wrist. It is silver and has rose gold accents. It has a certain weight to it which points to the quality of material and craftsmanship but it’s not too heavy. She loves that it doesn’t need any batteries like her other watches which are useless now except as an accessory. All it needs is your hand movement after you set it when you first put it on.
