  • Hands down the best booster
I honestly didn’t think I’d get excited about a booster seat, but this one’s brilliant. We use it every day for school runs, and I can still pack it into my suitcase when we visit family. It feels sturdy like a normal booster, but folds down into this neat little bag and carry strap which is very handy. Setup was actually easier than I expected. There’s a button that starts it off, then you just slide it out, lift up the seatbelt guides, secure them with the Velcro straps and add the shoulder strap to the back. It’s also the only booster I’ve seen with an abdominal impact shield, which makes me feel so much better knowing there’s added protection around their tummy's. My daughter says it’s really comfy, even during the long car rides, and I love that the seatbelt always sits where it should. It doesn’t slide around either, which was a problem with our old one. You can tell it’s been designed by someone who actually uses these things. It’s not inflatable like our travel one , it’s solid but that’s exactly what I wanted for daily use. And the fact that it travels well too? Total bonus. Highly recommend ... show more

  • Heavier and Bulkier but More Secure than Inflatable
We’ve used an inflatable travel booster in the past but had some safety concerns, so we decided to try this BubbleBum Teleport model and are impressed with the quality. It’s definitely heavier than the inflatable (about 5.4 pounds with the straps), and much bulkier, but it feels much more stable and secure once installed. Setup takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it's quick and easy. I really like how the seat belt positioning strap works for either side of the car, so you don’t have to reset everything when switching seats. My son seems more securely tied in with this one, and the non-slip base helps it stay in place. The one thing I’m not completely sold on is the abdominal impact shield. It creates a bit of a gap between the belt and my son that doesn’t feel quite right, so we’re skipping that piece. If you're tight on space or weight-constrained, this is not the booster for you. Otherwise, this is a sturdy, portable booster that feels safer than the inflatable alternatives and is worth getting. Just make sure to practice before traveling. ... show more

  • Good booster, but has some issues
As a Vine reviewer who just so happens to be a CPST, I of course jumped at the chance to review a new booster from Bubble Bum. In general I think the original Bubble Bum inflatable booster is pretty great but has a few limitations. I had high expectations for the new Teleport, but my honest opinion is it's kind of a letdown. Let me clarify that, it's a letdown for what it's trying to be. It's marketed as a great travel option, but it requires too many steps as far as assembly, is kind of bulky and has the added requirement of the abdominal impact shield that parents must keep track of when traveling. The regular Bubble Bum is a much better travel booster in my opinion. I wanted to primarily use this for my short 11 year old who doesn't 5-step yet in most cars. I was hoping for something that can easily be moved from car to car, but the booster itself is way too high and bulky. He uses the sadly discontinued Graco Right Guide, which is the perfect solution for a kid who doesn't quite fit in a regular seatbelt yet. I was hoping the BB Teleport could be such a seat so we don't have to switch the Right Guide from car to car, but it raised him up so high that he felt uncomfortable. It sits up much higher than my daughter's Chicco Kidfit booster (sorry, I forgot to take measurements but I'd say about 3-4 inches higher), and I think the BB Teleport would put a taller kid's ears above the vehicle's headrest in many sedans. It would definitely put my son's head almost to the ceiling in my husband's Audi sedan. This would especially be an issue when you're traveling and can't pick and choose what type of vehicle you're going to get. Next I tried the Teleport with my 5 year old. She loved it but I'm not sold on the abdominal impact shield. The way the padding is placed, it pulls the shoulder belt off the child's collarbone creating an unsafe belt fit. So that creates the need to use the shoulder belt clip, but as a CPST my general rule is if a child needs a shoulder belt clip to fit correctly in a backless booster they should probably just be in a high-back booster. Parents never use them or use them incorrectly. The manual is vague on the use of the abdominal impact shield so I emailed their customer service, and they said "our booster fully meets all U.S. federal safety requirements without the impact shield. In Europe, additional testing is carried out using an advanced crash-test dummy with abdominal sensors. These tests show even better protection when the shield is used." So, it is parental discretion if you choose to use it or not. Another issue I had with the manual is I read it front to back twice and could not find any mention of the expiration date. I again emailed customer service and they said the Teleport expires 6 years from date of manufacture. This concerns me because the average parent isn't going to the effort to find the expiration and could possibly use the seat past it's life span. The manual though very clearly shows how to properly use the seat, including graphics on how to set it up and proper belt fit. It has a unique belt routing that has the lap belt under the red guide and the shoulder belt on top, not tucked under the belt guide. That is different than most other boosters and is something parents or caregivers might not be used to. I really struggled with how many stars to give the Teleport for my review. It isn't a bad booster. It achieves a proper belt fit, especially without the abdominal shield. It can be collapsed down so it can easily store in a suitcase or overhead compartment. But I think the extra steps that have to be taken to set it up, the additional need for the abdominal shield should a parent want to use it, and the fact that it may boost up a taller kid (who still isn't tall enough to ride without a booster) so high they don't have proper head support behind them in some cars make it something I'd pass on in favor of the original Bubble Bum inflatable booster for travel. The inflatable booster can sometimes be too narrow for some kids' rear ends, but otherwise I think it's a perfect travel booster. It's smaller, lighter and easier to transport than the Teleport, and aside from inflating, it doesn't require extra steps for set up. But, if you have a child who really wants to be boosted up very high in their seat and know you're going to be able to achieve a proper belt fit in the car you will use it in, then it's a great choice. ... show more
