Description

The Satsuki Azalea is a popular choice among Bonsai. This particular plant is very hardy and produces magnificent flowers ranging up to seven inches in diameter. Of all shrubs with flowers, the Azalea is by far the most dramatic with brilliant blooms of radiant colors blooming in late spring. While there are many species of Azalea, the Satsuki, or Rhododendron indicum is easily one of the most popular, featuring an excellent low, twiggy habit with lovely funnel shaped unscented flowers in whites, pinks, reds and purples. The Satsuki is identified by two blossoms on the end of the terminal; they also have slightly hairy leaves budding out freely from even fairly old wood. Because the azalea is highly coveted in Japan, there have been hundreds of different varieties, in every color except yellow, bright orange, and true blue. Each live plant is shipped with the Phytosanitary Certificate as required by the USDA.

  • Died........Again.
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
I purchased this because of the good reviews but unfortunately it died within less than two weeks, just as all of the bad reviews stated. I contacted amazon and was lucky to get another one. I hope it survives this time. Update ....I received another plant courtesy of amazon it's now about two weeks since I got it and it's dead just as the first one. Dont know if it's me but I normally have a green thumb with plants. Wont be buying this again though. All I did was take it out of the box, the soil was moist and didn't need water so I didnt do anything to it. In the pics #1 is the second one I got and pic 2 is the first. ... show more

  • Study bonsai and azalias before you complain
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
This is my second plant. I have had mixed luck but after I studied this subject watching youtube (Heron bonsai nursery is very good), I feel more confident. Both plants arrived very healthy and beautiful, and I don't think anyone can complain about that, no matter what the final outcome when you have it in your home. I learned that the soil ideal for Azalia/Bonsai is Kanuma with sphagnum moss mixed, or at least a light weight soil. The plant does not like to be dried out, it likes humidity; frequent misting is a good idea. But don't waterlog it. The plant comes wired to the bottom of the pot, and you can chose to clip the wires and examine the roots / soil when it arrives. My first plant was very pot-bound and it did need to be removed and trimmed back. Bonsai takes some care and attention, and it is very much recommended that you study up. This is a bit of commitment, but worth it. ... show more

  • Good first impression. (Updated)
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
Just arrived. So far I am impressed. This purchase was accidental, but with shipping being 40% of how much this cost me I didn't see it worth sending back. It arrived in great condition. I did think I was getting a five year old tree like the description states, but this one is only three. Has great bids that look like they will bloom soon. Soil came moist and intact. Foliage looks great. Came in a cream planter instead of the blue. 😕 But it is still cute. Update: Soil is sooooo difficult to water due to it being so compact. Key is to mist the soil so the water will seep in when you pour or run under a slow faucet. Main issue has been figuring out when it needs watered. However I think I have it figured out, with little loss of leaves!!! (Normally I am a Black thumb). Love the flowers! They don't last long but they bloom at different times. Attempting deadheading now, removing old petals to see if new ones grow. ... show more

  • Bonsai Azalea - read before you buy
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
This has received some poor reviews. Here is mine! 1) It’s a plant that flowers in summer and that’s how they work. If you order one expecting it to be flowering upon arrival I feel bad for you... Azalea’s blooming out of season would be witchcraft. 2) While some say received a plastic pot mine came in a ceramic pot as described. I would have been mad if it came in a plastic pot! 3) My plant arrived alive and in good condition. Time will tell how it holds ups but I will follow the directions for its care and report back if it dies after caring for it as directed (see #5) 4) It’s an outdoor azalea in a small pot. If it is repotted it will grow larger. If not it will remain small. If you keep it inside without creating the proper conditions it will most certainly die. 5) Bonsai AZALEAS should be fed with a special azalea or rhododendron fertilizer. - “Azaleas need a slightly acid soil and hard tap water is not appropriate for them. You can use rainwater, mix rainwater with tap water or filter your tap water for the azalea Bonsai. Feeding: During the growing season azalea Bonsai should be fed with a special azalea or rhododendron fertilizer.” 7) Any live plant that is shipped can have a hard time. I feel bad for the people whose plant got recked during shipping - this one’s for you. 8) Godspeed Amazon people! Please use common sense. I feel like this is bizarro world and people need to “peddle the bike” AKA think. I promise to come back and shame myself if I follow directions for the care of this OUTDOOR Bonsai AZELEA and it dies (or fails to bloom in the summer). ... show more

  • Absolutely beautiful
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
It came bearing blossoms. Unfortunately, all soon fell off, perhaps the stress of shipping. The bonsai was packaged expertly. It is once again beginning to bloom, took about 3 weeks for new buds to appear. I love this beautiful bonsai, and would definitely recommend.

  • Hopefully
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
The tree arrived in beautiful condition. I was very happy. What I don’t understand is why it died. I thought I was taking great care of it. Proper watering, in sun and outside on front porch. We reside in Florida as well

  • Very healthy plant, no flowers upon arrival
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
Plant came in nice and healthy. No flowers on it yet, but my sister, for whom I gave the flower as a gift, said it was a beautiful surprise to see a little pink bud appear. She didn’t realize it was a flowering bonsai and was very excited.

  • This bonsai is hardy!
Size: Small Style: Ceramic Pot
Tree arrived in -32 F weather and had to sit out all night b/c gate was frozen shut so delivery man couldn't get to house and I couldn't walk on ice to retrieve it. Sat outside for 24 hrs; is apparently fine -- in excellent shape. Beautifully/carefully packed, with very clear care instructions.
