Description

There are over 600 species of Ficus, most of them tropical and evergreen. Ficus produces a unique "fruit" which is actually an inverted flower. Ficus is one of the most loved bonsai for many reasons. Ficus are one of the best varieties of Bonsai trees for indoors. They're very easy to take care of and need little attention. In the ficus family, the Golden Gate variety is the best for growing indoors. The attractive gray trunk is thick and sturdy topped by small, dark green oval foliage. It is an excellent tree for beginners, as most species of Ficus are fast growers, tolerant of most any soil and light conditions, make fine indoor bonsai, and perhaps most importantly, are remarkably forgiving of those just learning bonsai watering techniques. Each live plant is shipped with the Phytosanitary Certificate as required by the USDA.

    • Survived Cold Shipping and Is Thriving Indoors!
Ordered as a Christmas gift for someone else. It arrived packaged well. The pot was wrapped so no soil would fall out, and the box was filled with packing peanuts to stabilize the tree. It was cold here, so the tree was refrigerator cold when it arrived. That was NOT the fault of the provider. It was just winter. Some bonsai places will not ship to cold states in winter, and that is understandable. This Golden Gate Ficus rebounded after losing probably more than 50 percent of its leaves within days. New growth was already starting when it arrived. Within three weeks its growth really took off. It was only days until Christmas when it arrived, and I was not sure it would survive. So, I did not give it as a gift as originally planned. The tree is exposed to a full-spectrum plant light about 12 hours or more per day and a small fluorescent light 24 hours per day. I bought an LED grow lamp to give with it as a gift. The tree is watered every two days or when the top of the soil begins to look a bit dry. It is almost ready for some plant fertilizer now too. I already started wiring some branches into the shape I want. Though it was supposed to be a gift for someone else, I'm keeping it for me! The price was a great deal on an easy to grow bonsai tree. With a grow light and a Golden Gate Ficus, you can have an indoor bonsai tree in cold climates. Don't keep it near a cold window at night. These trees do better where it is at least room temperature. The pot it came in is nice too, and the tree was wired properly into the pot. I am going to add a humidity tray with stones as the indoor humidity here in winter is only about 26%. Oh, and the tree arrived with a tiny patch of moss at the base of the trunk. If I keep it moist and get light to it, it will spread to make a nice landscape look to the plant. I would order again from this company. I am thinking about trying my hand at a juniper when it gets a little warmer for shipping. Note that when this tree arrived, I thought it was going to die. However, it is thriving. Do as the instructions say and give it a couple weeks of care after it arrives. It is amazing how fast a ficus bounces back from shipping stress. ... show more

Bonsai Collectors in Hawaii have limited nursery stock locally in the nursery, so we often ship plants in from the mainland Continental USA. This can lead to high shipping costs. Often the plants are stressed out or dead when shipping is delayed. I took a chance by ordering plants on Amazon via Brussels's Bonsai. I am truly impressed with the fast shipping and the way the plants are packed. Each plant is individually packed in a box. The plants are anchored with Styrofoam and tape to keep it from shifting. The soil is sealed with plastic wrap and arrives moist. I orderd my plant on August 4 Thursday and it arrived safely and fresh 5 days later on Tuesday August 9, 4200 miles away in Olvie Branch Mississippi. You definitely get what you pay for! I took these photos right after I opened it and watered it, I kept it in the styrofoam tray it was packaged with. The container it comes with seems nice enough, it has draining holes in the bottom. When I opened it some of the roots were uncovered and sticking out, I covered most of them but you may be able to see them in the photo. The tree came with an instructional pamphlet that covered the basics of taking care of the tree, like watering, repotting, fertilizing, and diseases. As for how big it is, it’s about 14-16 inches from soil to top leaf. The pot almost seems too small for it, and I’m probably going to repot it in a few months. Overall it’s a very cute plant and I’m thinking of naming him Arthur. ... show more

I bought this bonsai tree after careful consideration and research into this art of growing. I got it as a gift for my adult son who expressed an interest in cultivating his own tree. Since he is a busy chemist I chose a well established but young tree to last him a lifetime. It came sooner than promised and was delivered in perfect condition in really secure packaging. It is thriving in a nice sunny spot. The leaf loss in relocating the tree was as projected in accompanying instructions and probably a little less and it has new growth. He is extremely pleased at how well he's doing in maintaining it's care. A perfect Christmas surprise for him @ the end of 2020. ... show more

Ok it is still early and I will keep this updated. I have had my Golden Gate Ficus for a month and it is doing great It was packaged great, survived the trip with only a little dirt shacking out. After setting it up on a humidity tray it has survived the first month without losing any leaves (amazing as this is the best out of any of my mail order bonsai). The reason not a 5 start is way to much trunk. We will see how it ages. ... show more

I order a ton of stuff on Amazon and rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to do so for this. I read some bad reviews and I was hesitant to order this product because of them. However, I am here to say that the product I ordered was exactly as described. It looks almost identical to the picture. It arrived a day early.
