Description

There are over 600 species of Ficus, most of them tropical and evergreen. Ficus produces a unique "fruit" which is actually an inverted flower. Ficus is one of the most loved bonsai for many reasons. Ficus are one of the best varieties of Bonsai trees for indoors. They're very easy to take care of and need little attention. In the ficus family, the Golden Gate variety is the best for growing indoors. The attractive gray trunk is thick and sturdy topped by small, dark green oval foliage. It is an excellent tree for beginners, as most species of Ficus are fast growers, tolerant of most any soil and light conditions, make fine indoor bonsai, and perhaps most importantly, are remarkably forgiving of those just learning bonsai watering techniques. Each live plant is shipped with the Phytosanitary Certificate as required by the USDA.

  • A great gift!!
I highly recommend this plant and the seller to any gift giver looking for a unique present; I purchased this for my best friend's birthday. It arrived very quickly and was packed well - only a couple of leaves fell during transport and the colors are more vibrant than the picture represents. Keep in mind the next few facts when you're deciding if a Bonsai is right for you or the person receiving it. 1. My friend can grow any plant from seed or bulb and keep it alive indefinitely. 2. Be ready to invest some time and money - this is a hobby. Within a couple of weeks my friend purchased a full set of tools (I got her the basics), wires of different widths, and books on caring for it. She also watched a bunch of YouTube videos - they were a fantastic resource and there's a plethora of them. This requires more then letting it sit in a window and get the occasional watering. 3. You may need to get over the fear of killing the Bonsai! It took a few weeks before she finally took the shears and cut back all but the branches she chose to highlight, bend the branches, and wire them into her vision. Of course, is a beautiful plant either way. ... She loves this Bonsai and the time she has spent dedicated to 'creating her vision'. These plants can last for many years. ...20, 30, and even 75-100 years. She jokes now that it will need to be in her last will and testament. As a friend (& gift giver) this present was an incredible success. It was great to see the expression on her face when she opened it - and every time she does a little more work on it. So if you have someone in your life that you struggle deciding what kind of gift to buy then, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with this sweet Bonsai from this seller. ... show more

  • Struggling tree and TERRIBLE Customer service!!!!
So here's the deal, when I got this tree it seemed healthy. for the most part, came in good shape however the place left many wires on the tree from their shaping that had started to be grown over. This alone one could assume would be unhealthy for the tree. However, the real problem came hardly three days after getting the tree wherein all the leave over a two-day span went from green- to brown speckles- to shriveled and black. The black coloring even started going down the green stems to the branches. Of course, I was terrified and got in contact with many other tree owners through forums and shared pictures and thoughts back and forth. We all agreed that the tree must be sick in some way- be it soil of fungus base we were unable to tell. So in a risky and fear driven state for my tree, I did what I was instructed by friends and trimmed away all the blackening parts to stop the spread. This only left about ten left near the top of the tree alive. It is now making an ever slow and careful recovery but Sadly I don't think it will ever look quite the same. The real problem, however, is with the company, you see the day my tree started to brown I tried to get ahold of them on Amazon- which is sadly not an option. Thus with some searching, I found their base website and contacted them to ask what I should do and if at the very least they would allow me to return this tree and get another healthier one. They, of course, did not respond. AT ALL. So the next day as the leaves turned black I called their company line to now asked for some action to be taken as anyone can agree that blackening leaves is not healthy. The woman who took the call was rude and short with me while I stayed calm and apologized for any misunderstanding I might have with the trees state but that I would like something to be done. The woman then went to blame me and say that I likely let the plant outside in the winter- which while I am in Oregon and can attest to winter this year- for the whole week I had gotten it the snow had been long gone and had been in the 60-70s all week. So frankly I was offended by this. After that, she told me to send an email to her personal company email so she can look at photos of the tree and then we could talk from there. I still stayed ever kind and allowed the woman to be short with me as I explained that I will send them as soon as I get to a computer after my lunch break at work. With an Email sent to her, I waited. And waited. Sure enough, it has been over two weeks and they have never responded and now for having this tree for a month, they will not hold up the end of their 30-day policy even though I tried in vain to get in contact with them a meer four-five days after getting the tree. To say the least I do not support this company and would highly suggest that you try a different or more local source for your trees. Seeing as this company willingly ignored the three different attempts in me trying to fix what is ultimately their fault. ... show more

  • HOLY BONSAI !!!!!!!
I ordered this product and I thought it might be a little pricey for what it was. But let me tell you it was worth every penny. When I opened up my package I couldn't believe the size of the thing. It must be at least 3 feet tall and the trunk is real thick! (whoa that sounded bad...uk what I mean) But my point is this product was draw dropping. There are sooo many leaves and branches that I had to immediately started chopping away at it to make it look somewhat equal on both sides. I wonder if my redwood will live until the year 4000 or 5000 A.D.... well that's wishful thinking but the tree is very healthy and was shipped in a timely manner and over packaged to the point where I don't think any damage occurred. But just so everyone knows. This is a deciduous bonsai. That means it stays outside! If your trying to get this for your home then its not for you. The leaves all fall off during winter and it survives freezing temps. Find out your USDA hardiness zone and check to see if its compatible with a dawn redwood. Dawn Redwoods or metaseqouias are like a close cousin of giant and coastal redwoods. A small patch of them were discovered in 1941 in china and scientists took seed specimens and spread them across the world to preserve this beautiful tree. They don't really grow in the wild anymore unless someone plants them. But their hardiness conditions vary greatly from the other two more famous redwoods. Dawn Redwoods can handle harsh winters. I'm located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and my zone is 5 or 4b. Check your zone and see if its a fit for you. And one more thing... These trees grow veryyyyy fast. I planted a bare root one this spring and its growing like a beanstalk. So that's another plus for this tree. ... show more
