This little tree is beautiful, better than I expected. It arrived in perfect condition, packed in an ample sized box filled with popcorn styrofoam and plastic wrap around the pot with soil. There was not a single broken twig or any falling leaves. The tree trunk is impressive! It has a couple of curves that look like a bonsai that has been trained for years by skillful wiring that now has been removed. I soaked it in water on arrival, so it doesn’t dry out. The tree must be at least 5 years old! The Chinese Elm is intended to grow outdoors. It is considered to be a very good choice of tree species for beginners in bonsai. From the box it was shedding leaves and it never stopped. It arrived well packed but some of the branches were still damaged. I followed all instructions but it didn’t survive. Very disappointed. Now it’s too late to return or exchange so lost my money. I would not recommend.

A reasonably good value, in good healthy condition (it was carefully packaged) when it arrived, but i probably over watered it initially (it developed a few yellow leaves), then I likely UNder watered it... the leaves are green but dry, falling off very slowly. It may be dead, but it would likely be because I didn't understand how to water it properly--not the vendor's fault. I want to try again, because the Chinese elm has small delicate leaves, making it an interesting bonsai choice. ... show more

The good and the bad.... Good: Seems healthy (but has pest damage-see below), very well packaged, quick shipping, super cool green lichen on it (maybe trumpet lichen), trimmed before being sent, good price. Not so good: Does not have "S" shape. Which I would be okay with but the reason is they chopped the leader at some point and let two other branches grow. They are much smaller and it will take forever to make one the new leader with the correct taper. Over all this does not really concern me. Green stuff all over it (looks almost like paint), I do not know if this is a pesticide or an algae. It kinda looks cool but not knowing is concerning. Leaves have been chewed on by something. I do not see any insects on them but have definitely been chewed on by something. Overall: Seems like it's worth the price and I would order from them again. I wish I would've picked a milder week/time of year to order it because it basically came frozen. Hopefully it bounces back/doesn't die. I currently have a clear bag over it (keep up humidity and so pest do not transfer to other trees) and I am monitoring for pest. It is under grow lights in a colder room (grow room) getting accustom to its new environment. They say "outdoor" only but going from being in a green house in Mississippi to southern PA during the winter it would surly die if I just put it outside. I will try to update in a month or two.... Updated to 4 stars: still looking good and may order another one. 4 week update: lost all of its leaves but budded and came back great. I would purchase again. Oh, it’s not green lichen. It is liverworts moss. Love it and have started to propagate it separately. Last Update: I've had three plants from this place. Two I bought and a juniper was a gift. All three have had fungus gnats which are super annoying and hard to get rid of. Treat your plants before sending out... its crazy. ... show more
