In my opinion as a beginner quilter, this is a really good machine! I used to have a brother lx3817 which was 90 dollars from Walmart. It did its job and survived 3 quilts and a lot of projects, but I’m thankful to upgrade! This machine runs so much smoother compared to my last machine, and it took me like 10 minutes to figure things out without looking at the manual since the bobbin threading and regular threading are similar. My Granddaughter reminds me of my Mother she loves Crochet,Embroidery, Drawing, she even went a step farther than my mother.she even got some wool from sheep 🐑 and she did every step to turn it into yarn 🧶 so she could Knit with it. Amazing for a 12 year old. She is turning 13 June 26, and she want to sew. About a year ago she found a sewing machine I had given her Mother’s years ago, now old and she tried to make it sew but it just didn’t. I wanted to offer her my sewing machine but I occasionally use it. So I started looking on Amazon and decided this would be a good one to learn on. Since she is going to be 13 years old that is a special Birthday 🎁 I decided to give it to her. She was so happy now she can make clothes. She has 5 years younger. It’s a nice machine. It’s my first. It was supposed to come with an instructional dvd but didn’t. It also was supposed to come with 8 feet but came with 4 and I had to buy some of the additional. One problem I have (could be operator error but it’s happened 4 times) once the bobbin is 1/2 used it won’t hook up anymore. So there’s a lot of wasted thread. I’m still learning but it seems durable, accurate stitching and straight forward. ... show more

I am very impressed with this machine! I have always had more expensive brands, and my last machine finally gave out on me and was going to cost too much to repair. So I thought I would buy something a little more cost effective to get me through until buying another larger digital machine. This one is AMAZING. Esp for the price! I have had it for several months now and I am impressed. It is really easy to thread and the bobbins are easy to load. It won't sew through anything too thick, but I was able to sew 2 layers of thinner leather and 2 layers of thicker jean fabric with no problems. The dials are super simple and the amount of stitch options is amazing! I don't really use the quilters arm and foot, but it is a great value to come with the machine. You also get a variety of different feet! I have traveled out of town qith it because it is pretty lightweight. It doe not come with a case, just a dust cover, but its easy to move without a case. This is my first Brother machine, but I am glad I purchased it. I will keep using this one, and I have not bought a "larger" machine yet. ... show more

For the price it's a good machine. It has some quirks that require a close reading of the instructions. After I had tested most of the features after arrival, including the buttonholer attachment.. I was very happy with it. The next day, it started sewing forward as usual, then in reverse only. This had something to do with the buttonhole stitch, which is a built-in stitch.. it automatically stitches backwards, when it's going around the buttonhole. The machine wasn't malfunctioning it just didn't have all the dials in the right place for a straight stitch. The manual requires a close reading all the way through. The analog dials are not all self explanatory. That being said, it's working fine now for my skill level and usage and has everything that I would ever need in a general use machine, and I sew quite a bit.. the table is a good feature. I think this is nice analog machine, plus the quilting attachments that come with it, add value. ... show more
