This printer is a replacement for my 10 year+ old 11x17 inkjet Brother printer that a power surge killed. This one is DEFINITLEY and upgrade. So much faster, easy printing from my phone, excellent print to edge with no wet ink warping (even on plain paper). Plus double sided scanning on the ADF and it works very well. Even the scanning was better. Very happy with the printer. Even the setup was better. A Brother new printer setup with all the software downloads and all is probably longer than most other printers but it was much faster and easier than my old printer. Only two complaint are 1 - wish it came in black (my old one was black and it matched better all my black CPU and monitor housings). 2 - Wish the Brother printer names were shorter and more memorable. I keep telling folks about my new printer but the model names are too long (yah, I know. First world problems...) ... show more

    • Great printer! FAST prints, no waiting.
This Brother printer/scanner/copier is a vast improvement over the HP OfficeJet that it replaced. The setup was fast and simple (although the USB cable connection was a little unusual and unexpected) and gave me the choice to use a USB or wireless connection. I chose the USB connection, to bypass the wireless network instructions. This model will scan and print to 11x17 paper size, which is important for me. Scans are fast, and give me the choice of color, greyscale or black&white. Printing and copying are also fast. My old HP spent minutes going through its self-diagnostics and tests, which was always annoying. I can feed in a stack of documents in the feeder tray on top, or place one sheet on the scanner glass for scanning or copying. The touch screen works well and the scanning app that I downloaded works well also, but I do have to admit that I liked HP's scanning application better than Brother's. That is minor however, and not enough to deduct a star from my review. The tank-like ink cartridges were easy to install, and look like they should last a lot longer than the tiny HP ink cartridges I was used to buying. To sum it up, so far I love this printer... it's fast, quiet and easy to use. What more could you want? ... show more

    • Some great features, some bad design issues
I love the 11*14 paper capacity! And it's generally quite fast. Love that. But there's a flaw in the design that makes it difficult to reload paper in Tray 1, because you have to close the extension tray that keeps already printed pages from falling on the floor to put more paper in the tray. Very inconvenient. Also envelopes have to be printed from the bypass tray which is in the rear. ... show more

    • Ink Use is a BIG ISSUE
That years worth of ink that came with it lasted just at 30 days in a low use setting. This unit replaced a 13 year old Brother unit that told me how much ink I had left. This SMART guy told me I had 3/4 of each color and then it stopped printing in the middle of my business day, in the middle of the week, a day before PAYDAY. I guess I will hand write paychecks!!!!!!! I immediately ordered more ink, but overnite I began to think... How much did that ink cost per page cost? My return window was bearing down and I knew the machine must have an issue so the following day, I initiated a return with Amazon. By the way AMAZON is the hero in this story -- THANK YOU AMAZON. Next, I contacted brother to get some answers. Do I have a machine with a problem? Are the ink cartridges a sample set? I spoke with a real person and he walked me thru where I could get how many pages I had processed. It was a printed document with lots of info, it reported that I printed 443 pages, about 1/2 of them were mono 1/2 had color. This was very close to what I was thinking. He then upgraded my issue and said I would be contacted by the next level of support. This was my last live person that Brother thought I needed to speak with, only emails from here. They requested copies of the documents the first man helped me print - I sent that with a couple of questions. Do I have a lemon? Or was the printer engineered this way and your advertising is misleading? While waiting for Brother to respond, I did some calculating - my cost for ink using this machine was 60 CENTS PER PAGE. My response came the next day. "we have sent out your order, it should arrive by..." My thoughts were Order? I wonder what this is, have they sent a replacement machine? I read on... They are sending me a pack of INK. I truly started to laugh, and I thought how crazy I was to think there may be some integrity in this world, so I just had to respond as follows. This is a great, can we set up the deliveries for every THREE WEEKS FOR THE NEXT 13 YEARS, since this is how long my last Brother printer lasted in this office. I haven't heard back from them. ... show more

    • Prints almost as fact as my laser printer. It does two sided faster & great quality print!
Very little that's not to like. Good print quality and is fast, also does two-sided better than my laser. Has large ink tanks also, so it can print almost the same amount as my laser toner cartridges. This replaced my old unit MFC-6490CW which also printed tabloid-size paper. But this one is so much faster. I do the printing for my club. It also scans tabloid-size papers, and faxes, with a large document feeder which is also fast. My old unit lasted from 2008. I was going to try to fix the old one but it was 15 years old, and some of the parts were not available. But for the price, this was well worth it! Can't say anything about longevity, but if it lasts as long as my old unit which was over 15 years. I'll be happy. ... show more

This phenomenal printer has turned out to be the go-to printer for the office staff, however, the Box advertises that it has a Year's worth of ink. I can't see the ink lasting more than about 3 months, as my customer is a medical office, that Prince like no tomorrow. One item to note here is that you can purchase compatible ink that won't break the bank. I have decided that when my home office printer fails, I will be purchasing this printer. This is truly a five-star printer, and the best feature of all is that it works in a cloud environment. ... show more
