I had a singer and tried getting a new singer and it kept missing stitches and would unravel and need rethreading every 20th stitch. Returned the singer and got this instead. Works flawlessly. This is my second Brother Machine (my first one went to our second home) and I am extremely pleased with both of them. They are easy to use, lightweight to move around, and sew beautifully. I highly recommend this sewing machine.

I like how its lightweight, has a bright light, runs quieter than my old machine. However, it came with four special feet. Two of the special feet I got are not for use with the model I bought. (LX3817) Not sure how that happened. It comes with an instructional DVD. It's almost like "The Complete Idiot's Guides." It makes (almost) everything make sense. It's easy to use. It's not real fancy. It's VERY basic.no bells and whistles like some really expensive ones I've seen (touch screen, usb plugs, bluetooth, lots of "wtf?") Great deal for the price. ... show more

    • Less than 2 years and now broken!
Worked great when it first came, used it less than 15 times. Less than 2 yrs later the thread bulks up under the material. Took it to a repair store and the repair guy said there is something warped causing the problem and couldn’t fix. Wife not very happy.

Sewed about 70 yards of curtains with this basic machine and it worked like a champ. No bells and whistles (ex. stitch length is preset on the dial so minimal options) but if you just want a machine to sew seams this is it.

I love this machine! I’m a beginner and I’ve put this thing to the test with some thick fabrics (including jeans) and it has yet to fail me. It has its quirks like any machine would, like the tangling of thread for example, but still great. I did break 2 needles because I got too cocky with the amount of fabric I was sewing but it comes with 3 extra needles so I have yet to repurchase any replacements. 5 months strong! ... show more

I am a professional seamstress but only have a power machine. It only sews straight seams. I also have an overlock machine but needed something that does buttonholes, zig zag, decorative stitches. This was it. Not complicated at all, especially with the CD with all the directions on "HOW TO USE!!! " The directions are very clear and I have made 30 AMERICAN GIRL DOLL dresses, costumes, hats, coats, and jackets with zippers. I love this machine!!! ... show more
