    • Cheap range hood, but well worth the price!

This range hood is cheap; both in price and quality... That being said, it does what it was meant to do, and it does it well. You can spend a lot more money on a high[er] end hood range, and get a great product that performs well and has extra features, but if you're looking for a basic hood range that just does what it should without any extra bells and whistles, than this product should meet your needs just fine. It has a basic design, made of thin sheet metal, with a single light socket, and a two speed fan. The light socket is, well, it's a light socket... my only complaint about it is the plastic shield; it's rather thick, and while it diffuses the light, it also blocks the light output quite a bit. In my case, I bought a black hood range so light reflection is minimal at best, if you get a SS or white model than I would imagine the light output would be much better. The exhaust fan is great; on the low setting, I can barely hear it, yet it still exhausts heat quite well. On the high setting, it is much louder, but also exhausts more heat, so it's a trade-off. Personally, I don't have an external vent, so I just use it in it's default "non-vented" state, but it does include the necessary parts to use it with a vented exhaust, which is nice. Bottom line: It's not the best model you can buy, but it looks decent and performs well. In my opinion, it is well worth the [low] price for what you get. It's also one of the few models that is available in a 24" width, which is often a requirement for small apartments/condos. ... show more

This is a nice item from a distance, but, all the metal connections along the top seams are Very visible, so, up close, it does not look very well made. The photo shows the connections along the top right seam. It is slightly dented in at each connection point. The left seam is not as bad, but, also visible.     • Fantastic Value for Replacement Range Hood

It turns out this range hood can vent outside ... or not. In my case there is no ducted air vent and the installation was easy as can be. If you're doing it yourself and unsure: just make sure you are completely comfortable with minor electrical work, or call a pro. You can check youtube for installation videos to gauge your comfort. You'll need to cut the power and do a little bit of contortion to remove and replace one of the screws, but overall this is a very low-difficulty home upgrade. If replacing same model, it can be done in a morning by 1 person. In my case the old hood just had to go. This is an exact replacement and has so far functioned flawlessly. The package came super-quick and the instructions were fine (although I'm glad a few people had youtube videos quite honestly ... it's hard to see what you're up against until some screws come out). I did not need to buy anything else than what was included in the box, except perhaps a light bulb. I bought a bright white energy-efficient bulb. Simple to install. Twist together the white wires from the fan and light, and use a wire nut to attach them to your homes own white wire. Twist together the black wires from the fan and the light, and do the same. There are holes in the top of the hood to accommodate screws to mount under your cabinet. It took me about 10 minutes. It's metal, cleans up well, and moves quite a bit of air. Low noise level, especially if it's mounted tight. You can vent it up through the cabinet, which will require a 10 inch duct, if I remember correctly, and knocking the covered vent hole out of the top of the hood. Conversely, you can leave it as-is, and it'll vent out the front of the unit, with the airflow directed upwards. With fewer stores carrying these smaller 24 inch range hoods, it's nice to find them at a decent price. It's not the prettiest range hood in the world, but it's also not an overpriced 700 dollar fan.
