I ordered 3 of these (plan on ordering 3 more) - the fabric and quality is fantastic - BUT - they were scrunched up in a small carton like a rag - the carton was 8x10 inches - the brim is 18 inches diameter - the brim was not flat so there was a lot of bending to the brim - once you fasten the brim to the cap section the brim really looks awful - I hope by leaving the brim on a flat service for a week or two the brim will go back to its original shape because the quality is that good - cross fingers - my suggestion is to request from the seller to ship using a larger carton ... show more

    • Nothing fancy but wonderfully Sturdy
The hat is very sturdy, much better than I expected, and it fits me quite well. This is a felt hat, and the felt is thick and nice. I may put a band on it to tighten it up, but it stays on as is. There is nothing inside, just the bare felt. The velcro that holds the brim up is not really right for that application, since pulling straight up on it is weak and it doesn't stay attached as well as I'd like. I wish the ties were functional instead of decorative, but that would be complicated and make the hat less durable, so ignore what I just said. The box took quite a beating during shipment, but the hat inside arrived in excellent condition. I am very happy with this hat. ... show more

This hat is well-made. It arrived in a box that was too small and it got a little bent out of shape, so I laid it flat in the bathroom while I took a shower. That steamed it out. The 3 sides have Velcro that holds them to the main part of the hat. I like that it is plain, so I can decorate it myself with feathers and other piratey things. ... show more

Average quality. It's not a high quality hat, but more of what the attached tag says - "Novelty Hat". Arrived crumpled and it took a bit of work to straighten and set the hat correctly. I thought the felt would be more supple and less cardboard - like. The hat has velcro patches to secure the sides (brim) of the hat to the round-ish crown. The felt will bend sharply, so you have to take care and possibly use a steamer to soften the material for a graceful bend/ curve. It's okay for the price but I probably would move up to a higher priced item if true authenticity is your goal. ... show more

tHE HATS WERE USED BY VOLUNTEERS for period dress at living history weekend at Friendship Hill National HIstorical site. They looked fine on the people. I don't know how they will hold up, but they looked good.

I liked this product for the price, although I did expect something a little different. It was a little tight, and the attachments for the sides are velcro, and not very well made. Other than that, this hat did its job admirably.
