Not all 3 AAA battery cartage flash lights have a long enough chamber to hold a 18500 rechargeable battery. This particular flash light does; meaning, you can buy and install 18500 rechargeable batteries in them. Their advantage is they're a little lighter (about 5 grams), and they have a considerably larger energy storage capacity. The standard non-rechargeable batteries are 1.5 volt Alkaline, this 3 AAA battery cartage's capacity is rated at only 850 to1200mAh. The voltage difference between the different battery cartage types is so small, it's not a relevant factor, as there is no difference in the beam intensity. As you can tell, In mine, I did installed 9900mAh, 3.7volt,18500 size, rechargeable batteries. In a pack of four, these batteries cost me about $7.25 each. The initial set up cost is the rechargeable batteries only disadvantage. The biggest advantage is free and rare maintenance; in the same time that it would taken me to go through 28 AAA batteries, I will have to charge the 18500 cell once. These flashlights are quality made, have a bright clear beam, and the easy to use "ZOOM function" drastically increases its versatility. As you can see in the pictures, the 3 AAA battery cartages that come with these flash lights, are a little longer than the ones that come in some other flash lights. And the18500 size batteries are way too long to fit in the smaller shorter AAA cartage flash lights. ... show more
