    • Lid of the Carafe Has to be Off to Dispense (Why???)

Bought the Breville Lux Brew Thermal from Williams-Sonoma May 2025. Do not recommend. The instructions are literally hieroglyphs and when you follow the QR code you get ... the exact same hieroglyphs. The coffee will not dispense with the carafe lid on. Who designed a programmable coffee pot with no heating element where the lid has to be off to dispense? If you aren't there to pop the top on your carafe, your coffee is going to go cold. Finally, I got a lemon. The little ball that tells the brewer section (the cone on top) that the lid is off the carafe didn't sit right so my coffee wouldn't dispense. Returned it. However ... I will say this: Breville Customer Service was super helpful and patient (thank you, Starla). We did a video call and Starla walked through a reset and determined that the unit is defective. So ... partly because of Starla and partly because I love the look of the machine and I love my Breville espresso maker ... I'm going to give the Breville Lux Brew Glass Carafe a whirl, because it at least has a heating element so while the lid is off the coffee will stay hot. It also costs less than the thermal, which is interesting. Wish me luck ... ... show more
